Well, that was an unexpected finish. Nice charge by Anna, and a solid 3rd on the playoff hole to seal the win. Another solid tournament for Brittany. She's finishing her season strong.

 

Lydia, Sung Hyun, and IK certainly underperformed today. It was any of theirs for the taking. I don't think I've seen Lydia hit worse wedges than she did on the first 3 par 5's. Usually a strength of her game, she made a real mess of things. 'Nice eagle on the last par 5, though. It's good to see her regain some of her winning form, but she let this one slip away.

 

'Feel bad for Moriya, but you can't sail one OB and expect to recover from that. That elusive first win still awaits.

 

'Nice way to finish by Ai, and a great send off. She's a wonderful person, and I hope she enjoys her retirement.

That was a very tough finishing hole and the all that rain did not help. Congrats to Anna eventhough I was routing for the American.

Absolutely true which is why I am so glad that she was NOT a factor in this whole debacle of a tournament. When the weather is nice, and I mean really nice, not many can hang with her. She is pretty much a one dimensional player at this point in her career. "The Elements," including weather are the true test of how good professional golfers are in my opinion. After they wiped the first round, and some players had played pretty well up until that point, it really rubbed me the wrong way. Especially when the second day was bright and sunny and SHP came out and plowed the course. It's shameful how the tournament was handled, that's all I will say about it. The weather during the playoff....ummm I was waiting for them to wipe that out too! It was far worse than day 1 from what I saw. Ana is mentally strong, already got ripped off from one major, and very deserving even though the tournament as a whole should probably be abolished. Someone needs to come to the table and get this worked out, but they won't, I know they won't. Sad but true for the LPGA, seems like at least some of the "powers that be" should be embarrassed, but maybe they aren't?

I thought the course held up well. The winner averaged -3 per round, which is the second highest score of the five majors. Only the U.S. Open played tougher. The rough looked wicked, and missing some on the greens left some very tricky up and downs. A number of holes played quite long, which was nice to see. #18 proved to be a difficult finishing hole.

 

Yes, they really need to consider moving the tournament earlier in the year, but the test was solid.

Not a fan of the event or it's major status or the venue. Yes there were some difficult areas around greens. That back nine in particular has some of the worst green complexes I've seen in a professional event in quite some time.15 and 17 in particular.

Not sure whether this event on this course deserves to be a major, but Mr. Highland and I are planning to attend next year anyway! The setting is fabulous.

The "easiest" thing to do would be to swap it with the KPMG in early July. However, that would place a single event in Europe surrounded by U.S. based events. 'Not sure if that would be a way to increase player interest.

 

I think a better idea would be to simply dump the Lorena Ochoa Match play event in early may, and replace it with the Evian. The Lorena event has struggled, and perhaps it's time to let it go. The spot has a two week break until Kingsmill, so there would be enough time in the schedule for travel.

That would probably be the best move, but Lorena's tournament is more of an assist to her and an acknowledgement of what she did for the LPGA is a very short amount of time. Struggling or not, I don't see it going away soon.

Then move Lorena's tournament to mid-September. The high temperatures in Mexico City in September are in the mid-70's. 'Probably nicer than the weather they get in early May.

I really liked this event. The weather thing appears to be just bad luck. The course, to my mind, is fantastic. It's totally gettable for a player who is on, and a horror for someone just a little off. That will always make for exciting viewing. The best (1/2) course for this is the back 9 at Augusta. Reachable par 5's and scoring opportunities everywhere, but if ball striking is not on, then forget it The Evian was a little like it, with the massive slopes of the sides of the greens. And it had serious rough too!
