Equipment contract changes for PGA Tour Pros 2017/18

Pretty soon 80% of all tour players will wear Nike clothes and/or shoes.

Apparel contracts are stupid cheap so Nike is going after players left and right.

A recent 'Undercover Tour Pro' article said he was only getting $50k per year for his apparel contract. That's hard to believe. Reed is currently sitting at #24 in the world. What do you think Nike has to pay for a guy like that?

IIRC it was $15K, and he said that unless you're a top 10 guy, most deals are 5 figures.

Reed is head to toe, hat and shoes too so it's probably good for a little more.

I actually thought it was less than that like 10-15 K plus clothes. I could be wrong though.

Won’t find many companies that let you play any driver and putter you want outside of Mizuno and maybe Cleveland

When they were brand ambassadors at Titleist both Zach Johhnson (See More) and Steve Stricker (Odyssey) used non Titleist/Cameron putters. There may have been others.

Yes, a few exceptions for the great putters. But Titleist said you can’t not play our putters and our drivers.

Patrick Reed, Chris Wood, Cameron Champ, and Jimmy Stranger signed deals with Nike. Alex Noren signed head to toe deal (getting rid of the Callaway hat). Si Woo Kim and Lee Westwood wearing footwear only.

I wonder if Thomas Pieters will follow suit with the Noren deal and wear a Nike hat as well?

Titleist doesnt care if you dont use a scotty. You have to play their ball and driver, irons, and wedges.

Finau still playing without an equipment deal or did Ping pick him up?

I think still a free agent. Maybe when he starts his first tournament of the season he will announce something if he indeed signed with Ping or someone else.

He uses a scotty, so unless he is willing to switch, PING wont sign him.

He said he won the week after switching to the ProV....

Correct, played it the week of the New Orleans team event and changed after that.
