Day in the life of Deadman, the courier:

 

Woke up about 5:30 this morning. Decided to cruise WRX and YouTube on the very iPad I am typing on currently. About 6:30 got dressed in work clothes and out the door I go.

 

Arrive at 7:20-some-odd. Clock in at 7:40 because one of the supervisors essentially demanded I work out in the cargo cans instead of what the route I'm covering does on a normal day. Check the power pad (Scanner) and see preliminary stop count to be 73 stops... "F&&$!"

 

7:50 and sort begins. I'm in a smaller cargo can to begin. Has some bulky stuff, but nothing overwhelming. End up working 4 cans in total. 3 Large cargo cans, 1 small.

 

Finally leave the cans and get to my truck about 8:30. Now for the fun part... setting up the truck and documents that are at your truck and hoping you have some help.

 

No such luck... "&*)#!"

 

9:00 I'm sorted out, loaded up, and on the road. Get to my first Priority 1 stop at 9:35. The first 20 stops are nothing but Priority Overnight. 9 stops due by 10:30, 11 others due by noon. 7 of which in and around the Historic town of Harpers Ferry including a stop at the Customs and Border Patrol building. The guards there are great. Then I also have 4 up on the Mountain.

 

Missed 2 stops in Priority Overnight time cycle on the Mountain. Last one off at 12:15 or so. Oh well, I warned them on how that route gets. Wouldn't have mattered if I wouldn't have gotten some Tea and Snacks after my last 10:30 was off right next door to a Sheetz.

 

Small deviation: When I say 'The Mountain' look up Chestnut Hill Road and Shannondale in Harpers Ferry. Those two areas and the connecting areas between those two roads are 'The Mountain'. It will take a lot of time in the day depending on stop count. I had 27 of my 74 stops up there.

 

"FOOKIN ALE!"

 

Aaaaanyway, I'm getting to my 15th stop up on the mountain around 1:25 when a message comes across from Dispatch: "Charles Town/Kearneysvile Pickup route driver called out, need to split the stops." I call dispatch and inform him that I am unable to assist unless a break exception is made (able to take a 30 minute break instead of a full 60). Initially, that request is granted. Finally finish the first part of the Mountain at around 2:15 and head to Hickory Nut Road.

 

Now, I can bet none of y'all have been to Hickory Nut Road in Harpers Ferry. Let me put it like this:

 

The Ruts and sheer bumpiness of the roads leading to there would snap FAbb's wrists into compound fractures and bruise Eagle's. Funny enough, it's further up that part of 'The Mountain' than Mountain Top Trail (Go figure).

 

Approximately 2:50 Senior Manager broadcasts a message saying 60 minute breaks are mandatory, no exceptions. Well, that puts the Kibosh in Dispatch's plan to have me get 3 pickups after I finished my deliveries.

 

Finally off the mountain, officially, at 3:10. Haul as fast as I can (67 MPH governed baby!) into the actual Town of Harpers Ferry. Make a couple deliveries, get some pickups, get going out west on 340. Finally finish my eastern deliveries at 5:00 pm. Time for my break. Go back down to that Sheetz, get a Chocolate milk, get another snack and get some gas.

 

6:05, last 5 stops begin. Have 2 on Shepherdstown Pike, 2 off Flowing Springs Road and one in the town of Shenandoah Junction. Final stop off at 6:33.

 

Get back to the stations little after 7, take the 4 pieces that were not delivered (1 was not due, the others were Signature required) to the CSA in the check in/out location, clock out at 7:23, talk to my direct supervisor about some things and out the door I went.

 

Got home a bit after 8, changed into sweats and a T-shirt, had a Pork Chop (Boneless, Shake-N-Bake) and some corn (guessing canned sweet corn but not sure) around 9:00. Started writing this about 10:45 or so.

Radio silence for almost 18 hours??

 

Mild temps today so far, I wish I had a driving range down here with some mats and covered bays to be able to hit some balls. We got a decent amount of rain last night and I think more is on the way so no chance the course opens up.

the good news is that he's going to be launching something in the next couple of months and it's going to be "next level".

Ran into the GM (former now, he got promoted to Asst Director of Parks and Rec) of Chesapeake Hills in the grocery store. They had a pipe burst in the club house back in January (place was built in the 60's) and apparently the county realized it was cheaper to go ahead and tear the whole place down and build a new club house with banquet hall rather than do the $300k in repairs now just to tear it down in a few years. With all the money they are making from allowing the Dominion plant to happen the new place should be sweet. The plans apparently include one or two simulator bays so that in the winter they can have leagues and also be able to rent them out to people to work on distances and fitting.

 

I was kind of sad to hear about the building being torn down. 20 years of memories in that place but not going to lie I got a semi chub hearing about having a simulator with diagnostic capabilities within a 10 minute drive.

Day 5 of #nocuts, so I decided to do a few grip swaps. I needed to get the dirty feeling of the failed parking lot install from yesterday off me anyway.

 

Fresh orange i-lines from eagle on the 56, and 60. Finally made things official with the G 3 wood and popped a black i-line on there.

 

I'm still kicking myself for not buying a grip removal tool earlier. It's so damn easy to use. The grips on the 60 and 3 wood were in great shape, so I just saved them. I cringe to think about the amount of perfectly good grips I've cut off over the years.

 

I've got 4 of the finest #datcord on the planet (lamkin crossline cord) if any superfriends want them. I've also still got that superstroke pistol gt 1.0 if anybody want it. All free. Only catch is I'm not shipping.

It was funny yesterday how he and Tara were talking about the ice dancing being the most "political" aspect of the Team Skate (USA didn't do great), and then the two of them went off on how the Russian was definitely worse than Rippon in the "artistic" category -- which is the political aspect of the individual skating. Oh, ok, guys.

To me, the best thing about the Olympics so far is Leslie Jones on instagram. She's just posting videos of her TV with her yelling at the TV in the background. Talking about banging cross country skiers, curlers with their swiffers, etc etc. I just like the sound of her yelling.

 

The funniest thing about figure skating. . .they all do this part in their routines where they do something right in front of the judges. I call it the "drive by". Like this. . .

 

 

Except a lot of their "drive by"'s seem to just be skating in front of the judges like this. . .

 

 

With the business end pointed right at 'em. Like, "have a peek, boys!" Siegel would be missing out on one aspect of this judging.

 

Yesterday after Rippon skated, someone threw him a bouquet of flowers from the stands and there was a little Korean girl in his "area" and the flowers hit her right in the head.
