Best pants I've ever played in... Lululemon.

Recommended Posts

Weather is cooling down here in east Tennessee. Played a round on Friday and Saturday this past weekend. Prior to going out I snagged a pair of Lululemon ABC (Anti-ball crushing) pants.

These pants are amazing. The standard cut is a nice modern fit, not at all baggy and they are stretchy and extremely comfortable. They also have a slim fit, but that cut is a bit extreme for my liking. If you're looking for some pants for this golf season I can't recommend these enough.

They are a bit pricey at $128/pair, but Lululemon's return policy is so extreme that you won't regret it. Literally, if a single thing goes wrong with them - a pick in the fabric, fraying at the cuff or anything you can think of, you can take them back and they'll give you another pair free of charge. Your conscious will stop you from taking a pair back before they will.

Is that really a thing? Outstanding if so.

Didn't know about their return policy, might just have to try them out!

I think at this point I have no choice but to buy a pair each of Lululemon, Bonobos, and Vineyard Vines to see which are the best.

I just went to the Bonobos store in Minneapolis today and tried on the Highland Shorts. There is no way those are any better than the Under Armor or Adidas ones I currently wear, and the Bonobos ones are almost twice the price. Way overrated. And, they have a pocket within the pocket. Absolute deal breaker.

Also, I went to the Old Navy outlet store and the athletic pants are $44 and are marked @ 50% off. They are just as good as anything else.

I recently found the Rhone Commuter Pant and it's a direct competitor to the LuLu ABC. The Rhone pants are awesome. Lulu never fit me right so I couldn't wear them. Rhone is basically the lululemon for men.. for real men.

Quality is every bit as good, if not better than the lululemon. I can't compliment them enough. If you aren't sure of Lulu or don't fit well in them like me, give the Rhone Commuter a shot. You won't regret it.

To each his own.

I immediately notice the drop in quality of fit and fabric as soon as I put on a pair of my Adidas/Nike/UA/etc shorts if I grab them instead of Maide/Bonobos shorts from my closet.

Also; I'm going to grab a pair of these ABC pants and see whats up.

Maybe, but I have a tough time spending $130-$140 for a pair of pants that I plan to use for golf. Especially when the Old Navy version is 90% of the pants for 20% of the cost.

I plan on hitting Lululemon to try these ABC pants/shorts too and see if they are legit. My one concern in looking at pictures on the website is the back pockets appear to have zipper covers. I don't like that. I did love that the Bonobos shorts didn't have a button or anything for the back pockets.

If you had a competition where all pants were unbranded and stuck a pair of the Old Navy in there, you would think they were all the same price range

I haven't seen the Old Navy pants so I can't comment there... But about 18 months ago my wife and I went in there because someone had told her the new Old Navy athletic stuff was awesome. I was wearing my Rhone shorts when I went in and I remember thinking 'meh'. They are decent, and yes, absolutely for the cost it was a great value. But they were not the same and I didn't really care about cost.

Mainly, they were not cut as well nor were they styled as well. Poly blend materials are poly blend materials. Many feel similar and are close enough to be considered virtually the same. But styling, cut, etc are very different and very personal. Old Navy didn't really do it for me. I did, however, buy a couple of workout shirts. They were decent and did the trick for like $15 - $20 or whatever they were. But I have since bought a couple of Rhone and Travis Mathew workout shirts (the red label product line from TM) and I find myself only grabbing the Old Navy shirts if everything else is dirty. The TM and Rhone stuff just looks better, is cut better (at least for my body), seemingly styled better and I just like it more.

I'm not trying to say the Old Navy stuff is bad or anything like that. I think it's a tremendous value and I found it to be better than the C9 stuff at Target which is a similar cost (and is highly regarded by value seekers everywhere). I just like the cuts and the styling more of other brands. I'd rather buy 1 pair of pants for $130 which fit me perfectly and I love than 3 pair of $40 pants which are just 'OK' to me. But that is just how I am wired.

Grabbed a pair of the ABC Slim pants......exactly the look I was trying to achieve (athletic/stylish but not trendy) and the quality and comfort is great. These helped me avoid the mistake of getting a pair of joggers that I'd look at in my closet 3 years from now and say to myself "What was I thinking?"

Love them and will be looking for some new colors, hopefully they'll do something with some color other than grey, dark grey, really dark grey, and black!

BTW- my sales girl offered me a deal I couldn't resist, they have a code they can use called "I love you man" for 40%. I told her was interested in the pants but didn't really need them today, she said if I tried them on and bought them she give me the discount. Pretty awesome. I got that code another time as well.

I have now been to Bonobos, Vineyard Vines, and Lululemon. All of them have that little pocket within the pocket, which I HATE, for shorts. Lululemon didn't have shorts for me to try on, but I tried on the ABC pants. I will say the fit was amazing and the fabric was legit. But they had the little pocket within the pocket in the left pocket, not the right. I can't pay that much for pants and be irritated all the time. I'll stick with Adidas and Under Armour for half the price.

Can anyone make a recommendation for some golf pants that fit guys that regularly visit a squat rack at the gym?

These slim cuts aren't working...

The Lululemon pants are great and they come in two different fits. I'm in the gym a lot, but am a smaller guy so I like the slimmer cut. The other style is pretty relaxed in fit. They also offer free tailoring in store.

wow. $100+ for golf pants. jeez. No thanks.

If its below 50 and I'm not wearing bermuda shorts and I'm not at a private club, I'm wearing relaxed fit black Wranglers from target. $19.95 a pop.

"U" cut crotch to prevent "binding"...if you know what i mean.

Honest question; "Golf style" concerns aside, is it comfortable to play golf in jeans? I wear Levi's and Seven's and I can't imagine playing golf in them. I have a hard enough time getting my phone in my jeans pocket, cant imagine wrestling with a golf ball, tees, and a marker while playing in them. In the conditions you mention, I wear a pair of Nike Golf Winterized pants that feel like sweatpants but have a nice modern cut.

Wrangler relaxed fit are super comfortable and are even ok in a light breeze when it’s super cold. I was a Levi’s guy for most of my life until I found wranglers by accident. Far more comfortable. I needed some inexpensive jeans to work in for a renovation project and just grabbed them at target because they were cheap and I didn’t care about destroying them.

A few days into wearing them I was converted and went back and bought some more. I’d never go back to any other brand after wearing wranglers for 10+ years now. No negative comfort issues at all. I deliberately don’t wear my blue ones golfing because going with flat out blue denim is frowned on at some nicer public courses.

No jeans ever at the occasional private course invite. I’ve got some Golf specific slacks for that.

One way I have found through the years to figure out what pants are the most comfortable/breathable whatever bs you want to say... look at the tour pros who are not paid by a company to wear their pants. This year at web.com finals there were over 50 guys wearing Lulu that didn't have a contract to wear their pants.... that's how you know. Also, in 2016 many Adidas pants on tour were lightweight bonobos pants unlogoed with the Adidas logo. another great pant...

I just bought two pairs of the Old Navy Slim Active pants. I have previously tried on both Bonobos and Lulu. There was a very minimal difference in feel, but these Old Navy ones at the Outlet store were two for $45. You can't beat that value.
