BOYS' GOLF TRIP ARE RECOMMENDATIONS IN SE

Recommended Posts

Our annual golf trip is coming up in May. Looking for areas to play. i live in jax and not looking to drive more than 3-4 hours. We have played Charleston, and orlando in the past. We like to play courses within the $30-80 range and the are needs to have a vibrant nightlife as we like to go hard on and off the course. Thanks for all the feedback!

Tampa Area? I would say Streamsong as well, but that is much higher than the $80 budget.

Haven't done MB yet and that's a great idea! I love Charleston but they charge ridiculous rates if not a resident. Is it the same for MB?

For the courses you book, I would confirm they are not punching the greens. Myrtle Beach would be about 5.5 hours from Jax. Most rates should be 40-90. A few nicer courses will get above 100.

Looking more like Hilton head. Is there any nightlife there? I've heard it's pretty dull.

That is pretty accurate. Not a whole lot of great nightlife in the area. Great golf though!

We've done trips where we were in Columbia, SC and stayed in the USC area. A lot of fun in the evenings. The courses are very reasonable, but there is a little driving to get to them. May might be a little late though.

We chose HH. We are looking to pay Hilton National, Palmetto Hall, Old South, Eagle's Point, Oyster Reef and Golden Bear. I have to narrow it down to 4. Which do you recommend? We have folks from 5 hcp to 20 hcp. Looking for a mix of challenging and some easy ones. But keeping it under $75 (which I confirmed that all will be under).

When you add playing hard at night life, limits your selections. Reunion in the Orlando area might be a good choice. For me I want to play golf, so RTJ courses are good but hours from Jax. World Woods has two highly rated courses and rates are down in May.

Close by is North Hampton, and in Valdosta, Kinderlou Forest a must play course.

Just got back from HHI last night. The courses we played were in good shape. Not sure what you guys are looking for in nightlife, but there is a bar district (the barmuda triangle) that can be hopping. Live music etc There is a "gentlemans" club that I have never been to so can't help out there. Uber is plentiful so no issues there.

I'm a local here in HHI. Out of the courses you've mentioned, I would go with HHN, Old South, and Oyster Reef. There are 2 other courses in Hilton Head Plantation (which is where Oyster Reef is located) that I would also recommend which are Dolphin Head and CC of Hilton Head. Bear Creek is also a good choice but maybe not for the 20 handicapper because it's tight. Eagles Point and The Crescent are decent tracks but would be a bit of a drive for you if you're staying on the Island. You will pass both of those courses on your way to the Island (both will be on your left side along 278) so you can get an idea on how far out they are. Eagles is farther away from the Island than the Crescent is.

Barmuda Triangle is a decent place for nightlife and there are a few bars in Coligney that are decent. Downtown Bluffton is also a good spot for bars / restaurants and isn't a bad drive. The Gentleman's Club has become a bit pricey so might want to stay out of there and instead throw some more money into golf. ;)
