A little update, I could not be more in love with these irons!  The feel is incredible, the grind is exactly what I wanted, the patina (thank you CA rain) is developing nicely, and they are incredible irons to play.  Paired with the MMT 105tx has been a great combo for me.  Excellent ball flight and consistency.

I have actually gained distance across the bag, and I have been pleasantly surprised by the additional forgiveness I am finding low(er) on the face.

I can confidently say they were worth the wait.

While I did not get my NCW irons first hand, I had a pretty good idea of what I wanted based on my Scratch set.  Here’s some quick pics of the 7i’s.  Both sets are raw…not sure I’ll let the new ones rust out though.

I'm glad to see those skull and crossbones DWs are still getting some love. That was a crazy ride tracking those down.

I've got an NCW set on the way, just got the notification the other day that Don was stamping them up.

awesome, post some pics when they arrive!  Ya, the skull and bones DW’s aren’t going anywhere.  I seem to rotate cavity back sets in and out and have had some nice sets of irons but I keep coming back to my Scratch mb’s.

I’m curious if anyone has compared a long iron in the small cavity vs the full cavity (with the curved shoulders).

I've got one of each in a 2i, as well as have hit sets made up of both. What are you curious to know?

Cool. The small cavity doesn’t have as much added forgiveness or height I expected compared to the blade. Do you see much difference in height?

The EZ body (big cavity) does provide a bit higher launch height compared to the blade and the AR style body

Finally got in my sets - Based off a 48° PW, I elected to go with minimal stamping for a clean look and small scoring diamonds in between the grooves for a retro callback.

Absolutely gorgeous, if you ever decide to let one set go in your guy! Exactly how’d I have them built

I have an order in queue and I’m curious how your guys’ experience was getting your clubs built. I’m really not sure which shafts fit me best so I’m not sure how to go about that if a builder NCW recommends is in another state.

I went and got a fitting before my order to dial in shafts - went the club champion route, got specs, and then did the build myself.

Sure, they'll try to sell you whatever you're fit into, but it's worth the knowledge of what shafts best fit your swing.

I assumed for 4+ years I was a C-Taper stiff, walked out with regular $-tapers hard stepped and haven't looked back.

Does anyone know how and to what extent Don White was involved with the Macgregor MT Pro irons??

There's an article at IntoTheGrain and at GolfWeek showing that White joined Scratch in Jan 2010. It also states he was at MacGregor for 38 years.

NCW's site says he's had wins with his clubs since 1973, and Sports Illustrated says he joined shortly after losing his job in 1970, meaning that there's a good chance he was still at MacGregor immediately prior to going over to Scratch golf. So, it's certainly possible that he was involved but you may have to ask him yourself to get exact details.

Anyone with recent pics?

Up late dreaming about the next set I'd like to commission and am looking for inspiration.

I'm thinking 5° gaps from 30° to 60°, then fill out the bag with a couple hybrids, woods, and a putter. Twelve total in the bag. Maybe 13 and order a 65° wedge.

....and maybe a 70° wedge just for goofing around.

Let's see the goods, folks.

Extension of my original post - here’s some patina and the ferrules I had imagined when designing this set with Patrick. Took these while building, so just a teaser for the matching sets.

Anyone have insight on this? I have a set of NCW irons and wedges that I absolutely love but I need to know if I can use them in tournament play.

They're not in the database under National Custom Works, but they could be there under another name.  Dufner having had a set on Tour means they are building conforming clubs.

Best bet is likely to drop NCW a note to ask... (captain obvious moment)

Thanks! I had done that at the same time but thought it would take a long time to hear back but they replied immediately and said all of their clubs are conforming!
