I know that the question has been asked, and i do not expect this to be answered with a number, but did you pay a "speculative" amount that it was TW's or did you stumble onto something out of thin air?

 

Would be kind of Cool if you could work out something with SC to display it for a little while in the Gallery.

I’m curious too. The prices of a Tiger gamer putter, a possibly gamed by Tiger putter, and not a Tiger putter would all b quite different. And the OP acquired this before the COA confirmation.

We didn't discuss a dollar amount. I was not interested in selling it or trading it at the time, however that does not mean that I would not be open to it down the road.

 

As far as what I paid for the putter, i guess it really doesn't matter. I took a flyer thinking it could be real and it turned it out it was.

 

Here is the link to the auction where I won the putter a couple of years ago... $1,800 dollars. The putter was given to Andre Reed (NFL Hall of Famer) by Tiger (a friend of his) and Andre sold the putter at auction, where I won it. In the spirit of doing the "right thing", if I ever sell this putter, a portion of the proceeds will either be donated to the Andre Reed Foundation or the Tiger Woods Foundation since that is why the putter was sold in the first place.

Congrats to the OP! And put me in the camp of post #3 who wrote 'please tell me this is a joke'. No one knew that you bought it at auction from Andre Reed so that adds a whole new level of legitimacy. Here's hoping it ends up back in Tiger's camp and you are duly rewarded. Onward :yahoo:

Ease up man. We aren’t eating crow. The likelihood was highly unlikely so that’s what we went with. It’s a needle in a haystack.

i wanted to get the putter refurbished and made to look like new when I sent it in, but I was talked out of it by Scotty. He told me to leave it as is. Apparently they don't make those grips anymore nor do they make the special Tiger shafts anymore. Anyway, following his advice, i left the putter original as i had it.

 

When they called me to tell me the good news about what I had discovered, they asked me if I would let them buy it, trade it or just keep it on display at his personal Gallery/Museum. After thinking about it, I decided to keep the putter. I am not sure what I will do with it later, however for now, it will find a home somewhere in a special safe!

 

Personally, I’d let them keep it in Scotty gallery(it would still be yours). It has security and fire and loss prevention, as well as climate controls. Someone could easily mess up or steal that putter from your personal residence. Keeping it in a bank or somewhere similar is asking trouble as well.

It's the earliest tiger putter that will ever be owned by someone else other than tiger/his family. It's a moon shot I think guessing value.

 

Just as an FYI - this isn't accurate. I've seen and held a Tiger putter from 1996 which was used in competition and is owned by a collector. And I'm sure there are others out there from his pre-professional days.

Followed a link from TCC to read this thread. Great story!

 

There was a fair bit of speculation about what to do with such a find.

 

I like the idea of loaning it back to display long term (agreed return date in writing of course) and then choosing a lovely tour piece as a 'hire/rental fee'

Just came across this thread. So hilarious how many automatically thought it fake. To me the TW stamps looked legit. Most fakes are very poorly stamped. That plus it’s beat to hell. Nobody fakes one that rough.

I would have had a have a contract drawn up for him to display, but the putter is yours. I would have also added in the contract that he had to make me a custom putter by his own hands for free.
