I would say that one mistake Woodland made was not trying to drive the 287 yard par 4. I don't care who you are, the percentages are NOT in your favor trying to get up and down from 75 yards as opposed to greenside chipping. Guy was splitting fairways all day with a little power fade. That hole set up perfectly for him. I thought he hit a chicken-sh1t shot on 18, too. Xander went out to win that thing. Woodland tucked his tail.

 

i had JT at the sony when he shot the 59. he made eagle on his first hole of the tournament by hitting it near the green and holing it out. Woodland just hit it 237 on a 333 yard hole. SMH.

In another thread, he said it was about $75K. I think the system he put in was about $25K and then $50K in remodeling. Had to lower the floor to swing driver.

So i've been looking to see if this is something i can do in my house. I have a basement room that i wanted to convert to a sim, but i need about 12" more depth to feel comfortable swinging a driver.

 

That price tag hurts. But its beautiful.

We went to the range today but gave up less than half way through the bucket of balls. Way too cold. My son really wants to set up a simulator in our garage.

I was quoted @ $20k for digging out our basement when I asked about it maybe ten years ago. If you get the work like that done by professionals and do the rest of the simulator setup work yourself - I dont think thats bad for what you are getting. I follow the Trackman account on Twitter and they will occasionally have some really cool setups posted that people have had done.

Cant please everyone. No matter how a site tests or rates drivers, always going to be someone coming to the table with a smoldering hot take about why the list is flawed.

 

I never had an issue with the GD type lists. 99.9999% of golfers dont read message boards or care about things like backspin or launch angle or jailbreak speedfoam. So if you told them in essence, hey you know what, all the top OEMs make really good drivers. Who cares?

To be frank, the GD list actually has a heavy overlap with the MGS list. And, yes, it goes back to the fact that every manufacturer makes good stuff every year.

 

But, come on. They didn't build their reputation on "bashing the big golf companies."

 

They built their reputation on testing equipment without receiving ad revenue from anyone. Just like Consumer Reports, or anything else. Their list from last year is Ping, Callaway, Cobra, TaylorMade, just like everyone else's list.
