As far as the other site goes, if you make your reputation on bashing the big golf companies over what you perceive as deceptive business practices - you cant throw your hands up in amazement when they dont want to send you a bunch of free stuff.

 

Mostly because they know that in the end you are going to get your users to give you money and you'll buy it at full price anyway.

To be frank, the GD list actually has a heavy overlap with the MGS list. And, yes, it goes back to the fact that every manufacturer makes good stuff every year.

 

But, come on. They didn't build their reputation on "bashing the big golf companies."

 

They built their reputation on testing equipment without receiving ad revenue from anyone. Just like Consumer Reports, or anything else. Their list from last year is Ping, Callaway, Cobra, TaylorMade, just like everyone else's list.

 

Of course they did. They have railed against the big golf companies marketing and business practices for years, ever since I have been reading the site.

 

And you're absolutely wrong about the ad revenue. They have stated - and I believe still do somewhere - that they dont take ad revenue from BIG golf companies. Because you know, big companies are all liars. But they have no issues taking money from smaller and medium sized companies.

 

BTW I think all thats fine, you have to pay the bills. I really dont care about the difference. But they clearly do because they keep pointing it out.

 

Again, I dont really care about anyones list. They are all going to have the same clubs on it and they are all going to be rated pretty close to each other. Everyone makes great drivers so to me, every list is going to greatly overlap with the next.

The vibe on the other site never sat me with me regardless of the reviews. Something about the posting culture or something. I know, "vibe" is so scientific and objective. But the few days I spent on the site, all I saw was pandering to OEM reps for more free stuff and a bunch of circle jerking. Oh wait, that's here too. At least we do it with a better "vibe" I guess.

 

I do agree with something that Goose pointed out, that driver CG article was pretty informative.

 

But then again I haven't been on golf forums or the golf course enough to comment intelligently. Maybe tonight, during DTF I'll grow the expertise to say more.
