I invested in a bulk purchase of those hand warmers you’ll find at a course from Costco. A million of em for $17 purchase. Executive membership for the win. It was real cool to walk. I look forward to that conversation I constantly miss zooming by to search the left rough for my snap hook.

You will be carrying a bag next!

Congrats

Did you get the umbrella for your cart?

Walked for the first time in my golfing career today for 9 holes.

This is awesome man, congrats. EagleHiveMore seems pretty walkable?

Nothing beats walking. This time of year, its so great to put 7 clubs in the sunday bag and just putz around out there, its probably one of my favorite things about belonging somewhere. If you read what City posted a while back, walking is a great 7-8 mile walk. Plus you are pushing weight, plus swinging a club.

I got a look at an M5 demo iron last night. If you never saw the back of the club but all you did was see it from address and hit/hear it - I think you'd be pretty impressed.

While you guys get colder, this time next week I will be in Puerto Rico playing golf at Dorado.

I’ve missed these Kent drive-by posts to remind us how the other half lives...

The only thing I miss more is a DT drive by with pictures of all the home remo pics and a reminder of how much better he is with tools than we all are.

I whipped around Turf Valley with City yesterday.

I had my 7 sticks selected, with just a 3w as the tee club. Then I got a bad idea, and rolled with it. The G400 LS arrived on Monday, but not the shaft - so I click-click-clicked the shaft from my 3 wood into it. Man did that combo feel awful. The swing weight was all wrong. It felt like the shaft wasn't really loading at all. The good ones I hit were total bullets. Not a great idea, but it made for more shiggles than firing 3w off the tee 14 times.

City hit 2 stinkers off the first two holes, then basically fired them right down the gut the rest of the day. Some very nice long irons, wedges were good, and chipping was much more of what I expect to see from him. It seemed like he was getting spun up about putting a bit. He'll be fine. It should be another nice season for him.

I tried a few flag in from 5ft, and a few flag out. That sucker is definitely coming out this year.

Yeah the more I practice the more I'm leaning towards a Bryson strategy. Flag in on long initial putts and tap ins (to save time) - but flag out from inside 8 feet or so. I dont know, I imagine I will try different things.

I actually got drawn into a conversation with a few members yesterday about this, combined age of the 3 is approximately 200 yrs old. It started when I was on the putting green putting with the flag in, sort of rapping some really hard ones into the flagstick from a few feet away. But it sort of devolved into a "this isnt golf" conversation about the new rules. I knew that MV was still "debating" going with the OB local rule and now I can almost bet we will not implement it. Which would be a huge shame IMO considering OB comes into play on half the holes. But there are so many vocal older members that are against it, I'd bet we do not.

Stupid way to go by the USGA imo. Either have a rule or dont.

Hard to say. My guess would be it would be in place for anything below club championship - and maybe even for that. I think the wording said it could be in place for anything except elite amateurs or elite competitions - something like that.

HBD- congrats on your walk!

If you can put up with the mud and wind this time of year, walking gets much better in nice weather. My only advice- don't cheap out on socks, and don't walk 18 in a brand new pair of shoes. Put some salty snacks in that pushcart and stay hydrated.

I'm still re-adapting to carrying this winter. When you're not used to it, the bag does tend to tire out your upper back and shoulders.

Still, when it’s warm and I’ve been hitting the gym with a decent consistency, I’ll still prefer riding in a 90 degree or scatter policy for carts all summer.

You never know. You might start to dig it so much you just want to walk all the time. Walking 36 is definitely a right of passage. Walking 18, then carting 18 is a great day of golf, too. That second 18 always feels so relaxing.

carrying is a step backwards. I carried for years and swoled my knees up endlessly for no reason except "push carts are for olds."

The umbrella -- in sun and rain -- is a good idea. Siegel is the only guy here I've seen use the umbrella for sun, but it's really smart if you play a ton of golf. The Koreans do it. I lost the part of mine that screws into the attachment and it seems kind of tough to find replacement parts for caddy-tek. There are universal umbrella attachments out there, but if anyone knows where to find caddytek parts, let me know.

Speaking of mud, walking, and shoes - golf shoes were the biggest silent casualty of the 2018 wet season. I've definitely lost several pairs prematurely due to schlepping around mud bog golf courses. I've probably got to reload at least 2 pairs for this season, when I didn't expect to need any.

I intend to beat my 2-year old Pro SLs into the ground and then replace them. I'm down a pair anyway since I sold a pair of Tour 360s. It was a shame those shoes have such a big toe box, they looked so good and would have been sweet to keep.

Yeah I bought the Ecco shoes with GoreTex before the Scotland trip and then naturally it was sunny and 60* every day. But boy they have come in handy this Fall. Definitely made me rethink my usual approach of buying a couple pairs of cheapos and burning through them.

Yesterday wasn't bad winter golf. Fabb's Dhree Wood was a non-starter. We both caught it about 240 on the 18th, with the machine-gunicorn going more like 250. I actually thought we hit it more like 225, 230 and was a little surprised when they were at 240. It just sounds dead and feels dead.

Some of the creeks at Turf have widened to the point where it's a question whether one could long jump one or not. I almost talked Fabb into it yesterday. I was getting my phone out and then he was like, "my clothes are kind of bulky". I think it might happen this year. It's probably about 12 feet. I could probably jump about 8 feet right now, but I haven't tried to long jump probably since I as 18 so I think my brain still looks at the jump like I could do it.

Re-enactment of me trying.

Once you've watched your foot turn sideways after breaking a tib-fb, it's hard to not visualize it when contemplating a jump like that.

Played about 10-12 rounds how with the flag in. SPCC started using the new rules back in Nov. to get use to them. I have no problem with leaving the stick in on anything longer than 15' or tap in's. The 6 ft and in putt I like to remove it but not sure why. Maybe just habit. Does this speed up the round, maybe when playing ready golf. Maybe 5 minutes overall. Is that 5 minutes more drinking time for some here?

Ooohh, tell me more. Are there photos or video of this? How'd you do it?

Speed skating. The walls were padded but only on the exits of the curves. I caught an edge going into a corner and went straight into a wall. Fast. Foot turned sideways. I have a rod through the fib and a plate on the tib. The x-rays are awesome, but I seem to have lost them somewhere in my digital past.

But, while looking, I did find this. This was from the day I forgot my golf shoes, so I golfed in my clogs. And, now, when I'm looking at that picture, the clogs aren't even the worst part of it, somehow.

I think that was actually a master's Sunday. It was me, meatDon, Mikey Five Fingers, and meatDave. We played and then hung out.

OB rule: my prediction is that the OB "rule" will be used for everything except the club championship at turf.

Shoes: My Pro SLs are a disaster. They're no longer 100% waterproof. I'm wearing them through the winter though. I actually bought a new pair early last year and basically haven't worn them because of the consistent swamp conditions. I don't want to jack them up by winter use.
