MD/DC/VA Golfers - Twelve Monkeys Mental Divergence

The Americans have always treated the Presidents Cup as an exhibition. This year is no different. P Reed and Rickie have brand spanking new irons in the bag. Xander is hitting a prototype driver. This is stuff you don't do on a big stage. Do it in the time between September and now, on your home course, where you know angles and distances. But here we are, with these guys sorta taking it lightly. Hoping it will come down to a good race Saturday night. Hoping.

Outside of Bandon, where in the USA are there courses like this? Does Texas/Oklahoma have golf like this? The linksy type of firm and fast courses seem few and far between here. It's playing more like a burnt out Scotland course. I just think that favors the golfers that grew up in non-country club conditions. There's definitely less imagination being used on shots in the states compared to courses like this abroad.

Might be some courses in Texas that get baked like this one does. But these guys aren't playing them on the reg. They live in Florida, Arizona, Cali, with plush courses that are receptive. A god while removed from these conditions.

I trust they will figure it out along the way. There's a learning curve to it. The Int'l team might have the advantage of course knowledge off the jump, but the Americans are pros and should be on top of it by this round or tomorrows.

Nonstop flight or no?

Not sure how it could possibly take the same amount of time. But no question - flying.

Streamsong played pretty baked out like this and you had to be really creative. Caddie would often tell you to land the ball X yards left of the green - or short etc.

I think its a combination of the design and the conditions. Guys in the US play baked out/windy courses all the time. Its more the ability to play the run up shots on RM that maybe they dont get all the time. Although saying that, JT played a perfect one yesterday from under a bush to about 8 feet.

Oh. Well, I still think differently than a lot of people but all else being equal I'd rather fly.

I have a buddy that flew to Savannah and drove up, he said the flight was nonstop, less than 90 minutes and the drive was a half hour or so.

Disclaimer - I have not done this but if I was going to, thats the way I'd go.

Disclaimer 2 - I'm also old and an 8 hour drive sounds completely miserable. Some guys here have no probably doing 10-12 hr drives.

I keep hearing people talk about firmness being a disadvantage for the USA. Who thinks Hideki or CT Pan or...well...basically anyone on the International Team has any actual advantage because of that? I certainly don't. Did Ancer get some magic upbringing at Oklahoma that Rickie didn't get at Oklahoma State? This isn't the Ryder Cup where the opponents all grew up on firm links courses.

I dont either - I think the whole "the US team doesnt play in these conditions" is very overrated. For the most part these guys play the same kinds/actual courses 95% of the year.

I did not watch that much last night but Tiger was standing on the tee of a Par 3 and one of the announcers said Tiger really struggles in the wind. It was blowing maybe 15 at the time? So GTFO with that.

If they played frozen winter golf like the rest of us, they would get used to playing hard, firm courses. 65 degrees and they bring out the beanies, sweaters and the puffy vests.

The wives and girlfriends are unnecessary and annoying also.

Except Ricky Fowler’s girlfriend. If you haven’t seen her Pole vault, put away your golf swing videos and do it now on YouTube

My only slight point was that on a typical American course or country club, especially on tour, you're flying the ball onto the green just about always. It's more target golf here with lush rough. It doesn't mean Americans can't play a run up game, you just don't see it as much on tour. It's just a generalization. These guys are great on any course.

the new quote system here is pure crud. I quoted this today and on mobile, I'm unable to delete it or find "drafts" so I can delete my drafts. I've never seen something so screwed up bad the changes wrx has gone through this year. literally nothing is better and a bunch of stuff is worse

Got an email that PXG lowered the price on their 0211s to $125 a club. I remember these getting pretty good reviews when they first came out - curious as to why they would phase them out so soon, I feel like they just came out this Spring. Either way thats a pretty great price...for any new iron really.

yeah, that's right in line with most other stuff. Even cheaper.

I like the look of PXG's, but one thing I've always liked was all those screws and holes (which those don't have). . .kinda gives them a mechanical/adjustable look. I think I finally put together what they remind me of. . .when I was a kid and had a car in the pine wood derby, you'd drill holes all through it or plug them to change the weight characteristics.

Speaking of irons. . . I have my MX-300's at home which I swing in the living room. I don't know why, but every time I pick one up, I go, "I like the look of these better than the 900's". I don't think I'll ever go back, but I'm also not getting rid of them any time soon.

I actually really like how they look from the top down which is 99% of the time all I care about. Its weird, I realize I've played a lot of what people would say are hideous irons. But if they have a decent topline, not too much offset and generally look pleasing at address - I'm in.

$150 a club with the Steelfibers installed. If I hadnt just bought a whole bag full of fishing rods/gear, I'd probably give these a spin.

I did order 4 duz of the Truvis Suits that I played this year. $32 is a pretty good price and even then, that will probably be more then enough to last me the year.

Bobby Grace will be at Golfdom in McLean tomorrow.

"Free fitting and lesson" with purchase.

Seeing as how we're getting a total washout tomorrow, I'm not entirely OUT on this, but it's still unlikely. I doubt I'll feel like driving 75-90 minutes each way in the rain. If it was inside an hour, maybe I'm there.

Interesting. Not sure its worth it $$ wise only because Golfdom is not one of those "sale price" type places - you're paying full boat retail for everything. That being said - I dont even know how much the BG putters cost but I looked up that dragon you posted about last year and I think it was $600 or so. But you're not buying a used stick for $100 at Golfdom. I'm not even sure if they sell any used clubs period.

More importantly - its right next to Tysons Mall (biggest mall in NoVa) and its the second to last Saturday before Christmas. Could be a mess getting in and out of there.

No golf until the new year. However, I used my credit at CPO for an Apex 19 GW and my credit at Global Golf for a G410 driver with the Tensei Orange shaft.

Plus, I've had 2 cortizone shots in my right shoulder. Not much improvement. There is a tear in the rotator cuff. Doc is saying (for now) I can try to strengthen the shoulder and then it is just pain management for treatment. We'll see how that works
