Taylormade M5 & M6 Woods - Pics added page 46

Saw an M5 in person today, with a quick conversation about the resin behind the face. Looked okay to me.

Followed by more information on the M5 fairway, including the price. $500 Cdn -> eeeek!

Ti fwys are expensive...

If it flat out performs, might just go with a tour spoon and use it as a driver replacement

If it’s anything like the past Ti fwys I have used, it will be a monster.

I'm expecting the M6 to be a game changer for TM as Callaway and Ping really took a bite into their market share the last 2 years as the M3 M4 really wasn't on par with the greatness they had w the M2. Looking forward to demoing this driver this Spring .TM doesn't make any bad drivers their usually setting the bar for everyone else .OPTOMISTIC

if you’re talking Retail Callaway has been the number one selling wood for at least 12 months or more. No one but Taylormade will ever be able to claim #1 driver on Tour because if I remember correctly they have that phrase trademarked. Just like odessey has #1 Putter on Tour trademarked.

Taylormade developed an amazing way, with speed foam to increase ball speed. But it was a reaction to the M irons faces caving in due to the tech overpowering the durability. They probably have many versions of it. In inner circles it’s known that it’s a pain in the butt to put something behind a face for speed or feel without slowing the face down. High face flex =crappy clacky feel. So taylormade, Callaway and pxg figured it out in irons. Most everyone else leaves the iron hollow or doesn’t make a hollow body. That issue isn’t a problem with huge driver faces which are easier to get to flex, which is why drivers are the only club with face speed restrictions. The other clubs due to being shorter, more lofted, spinnier, and smaller faces have to do a lot to get speed up. Drivers are a dead club, pretty much maxed out. Focus on the shaft dynamics, and settup to improve performance. Most players don’t settup behind or stay behind the ball enough to upswing it and release it properly.

Thanks for the info and opinions. Just to clarify, driver is not the only club with the COR restriction.

Drivers are not tested for COR. The CT test is used. Other clubs are tested for COR.

Will any of this new tech prevent the TaylorMade woods from caving in or the tops exploding off. Brooke’s Koepka wants to know. He busted 3 this year and 1 on TV. I caved in every TM wood I’ve ever owned. Great tech, super cheap materials and construction. Speed foam was the answer to all M irons faces caving in. I work for a retailer and guess what comes in broken every day. Check out ant TM drivers that have been hit a bit on the face on the toe section, you’ll feel a dip there. Totally unreliable. I’d like to see actual numbers from TM on how many come back. Never seen a jailbreak head cave in, plus they’re better anyway. Maybe if TM concentrated on how to construct a club rather than steal others ideas they’d last. Twist face, slot tech, carbon crowns, speed foam, face inserts. Just ask Cobra, Wilson, Cobra, PXG, and Orlimar. They originally came up with all those ideas first. 8 years ago, 30 years ago, 15 years ago , 3 years ago, and 20 years ago. M5/6, double face with resin behind it. Ask KZG how the feel about them biting off the Gemini driver. Look all that up it’s not a lie.

You got me there, yes the Pm did bite off the ping eye 2 toe and grind but not the grooves to the edge of the face. Phil tried to use one after the groove change cause it was grandfathered in and got heat from it so Callaway made that for him. But it was a solicitation from Phil. It most likely wouldn’t have been made otherwise though and Tm jumped on the bandwagon. So I’ll say I’m half wrong.

Yes you’re right, see my comment below, but you can’t ignore the history there.

Are you telling me that TM is the only company with a composite, adjustable, light weight, titanium head? They all adopt proven tech. Plus I'll add, I've broken 3 Epic heads drivers and two Epic 3 woods.

Hey Lt Scotty was not the first milled face putters and nor was Vokey the first milled face wedges. And Sonartech wasn't the first thin face tech. There are other inaccurate claims but I have better things to do than post a dozen rages ………

Who is next????

HyBrids-Cleveland Hi-Bore #1 (16* plays like 2-Iron) W/Fuji-S Tipped 1/2".  SIM Max #4 (set @ 21.5* w/ Fuji Atmos HB8 9S.  IRONS:  TM M3 4i (2*weak)w SteelFiber i95-S,  P790 3, 5-PW,  w/Fuji Pro 95i-S. SW TM MG4  54*/11 bent to 53*/10 w/ Precision Rifle 6.0-S. LW TaylorMade Hi Toe 3, 58/10 w/Modus Tour 105 Stiff. Putter-- BOBBY GRACE Night&Day-Custom, "M.Coz-Bandsaw Prototype". Lt Dan You joined 2 days ago and waited until your 19th post to go after TM. For a 2 handicap that’s impressive.

Teeuplo/The Average Golfer went off on part of this very topic yesterday on YouTube and I agree who cares what the companies do marketing wise and promises wise. And they are all the same. The better the marketing the more sales. That’s capitalism. His rant was actually brilliant. The best part was COR. The ball does not as of yet go the distance across the entire face for the rest of us who don’t hit it in the center like a scratch. I’ll take all the attempts to make it so by any company any day.

Now I will be met by a flurry of responses “ entitled to opinion etc, free country, internet etc “.
