Golf with stitches

Kgglonghorn

Recommended Posts

Anyone ever do it? Had an excision in the middle of my back 10 days ago and then against my doctor's recommendation, played in member guest this week. 63 holes in, decided to call it quits after stitches started splitting. Supposed to play 54 next week but need to monitor my wound. Anyone else make dumb decisions out of desperation to play golf? Hopefully didn't do anything permemant.

Not stitches, but I had a blood vessel in my nose cauterized and was told not to play for a week. I gave it two days and felt fine. It did not go well. Think “Carrie” prom scene.

After they fixed it, I did what I was told.

I was playing in a Member-Guest several years ago and had a wedding to attend Saturday night. Played fairly well Saturday, stuck around for a few cocktails, went home to clean up, then headed to the wedding.

This particular couple gave out a pair of cheap sunglasses as party favors to commemorate the occasion to each guest as they entered the reception. The wine was freely flowing and I had consumed my fair share. Toward the end of the evening my wine glass slipped out of my hand and broke. The reception hall was dimly lit as it was, throw in the sunglasses that I now was wearing along with the wine consumption and my vision was nowhere near what it should have been. I reached down to pick up the shards of glass, however I did not realize the stem had broken but somehow was standing straight up in the air. Instead of grabbing the loose pieces of glass I shoved the stem straight into the fatty area of my hand between my thumb and index finger.

Luckily, a doctor was present and prepared. He put 5 stitches in my left hand. He was a golfer so I asked him if he thought I could play Sunday morning. He said it would be sore, but since it was my glove hand he suggested stuffing some Kleenex between my fingers inside my glove. He said that and Advil would get me through it.

Sore was an understatement. On the range I was hitting shots about 80% except for driver. I couldn’t even make a swing with driver. I guess the extra weight/leverage was just enough to be too much. Sunday’s format was Shamble (both players tee off, choose the best tee shot, play your own ball from there, both scores count) which means I didn’t have to hit driver unless my partner hit a poor one. Only had to hit driver twice and actually shot a number that I would have gladly taken 100% healthy. I played two extra clubs on every shot to account for the lost clubhead speed and I made everything I looked at on the greens. We wound up winning our flight.

I had a full left knee replacement and followed my doctor's and physical therapist instructions, no questions asked.

My new knee is solid as a rock. I had to wait to play, but it was worth it.

Had 2 stints put into a 90% blocked coronary artery on a Monday in 2010. I had a huge 36 hole tournament scheduled for that coming weekend.

My dear wife said “ over my dead body are you playing golf less than a week after heart surgery unless you get a note from your cardiologist “

.

Got the note and followed doctor’s orders. Won the event!

Had stitches a few times. Only time I didn't listen, played BB with stitches along my shin. They sort of separated a little, so I didn't do it again. Scar ended up being a little more obvious, lol, took a little longer to heal, didn't make that mistake again - who wants to be restitched? I was young and dumb. Don't be dumb.

I had a horrible motorcycle accident and needed to have my right hand amputated. I had a big tournament the next day so just played one handed. Never swung the club better and won the tournament and dropped my index 6 strokes over the next 3 months

Wow! That's nuts! Any chance the hand was saved?

Any chance that your back surgery was to remove your sarcasm detector?

Definitely meant no sarcasm or disrespect. Injury just sounded really serious to be out playing golf. Thought maybe some good news surfaced. Maybe I misunderstood. Hope I did not offend.

I think Krt was being sarcastic in his response and you missed it. Seeing someone who has had a limb amputated. You will not play golf the following day after a hand amputation with out so many drugs that you wouldn't be able to stand, let alone swing.

All right. I know I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer :-) the post definitely seemed off but certainly was trying to be sensitive to the potential of an amputee responding.

I always try to put my health first but it was a member-guest after all and I am a Patriots fan. Have to reading how Tom Brady played in the AFC Championship with stitches I figured I would give it a go

I have to have one more mole removed in a few weeks. Will definitely not be playing golf for a few weeks after that!

Had some moles removed from my knee. Doc said take it easy. Wife wanted help moving something the next day. I squatted down to pick it up and riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiip. Sounded like a cotton shirt tearing. Wife asked, What was that? Um...... I think it was my knee. Ripped it apart and still have nice scar. Wish it was playing golf...

Yep. Doc cut something pre-cancerous off my back a few years ago. Went out and hit balls for two hours - blew them all out. Came back later in the day and he sewed them back up. Said the numbing agent should still be effective - it wasn't.

Pull that string tight!

That definitely made me chuckle as the blood slowly continues to trickle down my back!!!

On the third day, before we tee'ed off, another guy in the locker room said "hey, let me wipe that blood off your back" I should have taken that as a red flag before playing two more matches. Has been slowly dripping ever since. I'll see the doc again on Thursday. She ain't gonna be happy with me.

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
