Sounds like a driver swing sound to me, the plot thickens... *insert background audience laughter*

There have been times I've noticed players hitting an iron but the sound was of a driver. It hasn't happened often but it has happened. Kinda like the same woodpecker you hear on every hole at Augusta even though people have said there is (somehow) a complete lack of wildlife on the course.

Why did bubba stop his swing? I’m guessing it’s because another player was swinging at the same time and that’s ball we’re hearing. It just makes no sense that they’d hire a guy to sit in the truck and perfectly time ball strike sound effects live. And for what? It’s not like anyone would give a crap if a ball strike wasn’t mic’ed well here and there.

Fake sports sounds have been around for year’s. In winter sports alpine, cross country skiing, ski jumping most sounds are fake. Skid sounds in alpine. Skipoles that touch the surface or landings in ski jumping are all fake. Also Austrian cowbells and helicopters. Today the may or could use wireless mic. But the sounds where there 20 years ago as well, so, Cord I don’t think so! Microphones back then would probably not fit down in a small hole anyway!

have nice day,

Your right they place microphones on the course just to pick up the bird sounds

Believe it or not but they do for a fact pipe in the bird sounds, they are not real. They do at least play the chirping sounds of the native birds in the location they are playing.

You really think that's the reason he stopped his downswing??? He didn't notice this "other player" until half a second before impact while his eyes were fixed on his own ball? You don't think it had something to do with him moving something behind his ball at the end of the clip?

I saw an LPGA event a couple of weeks ago and the gal backed off at transition and a full swoosh/pop aired. So it's more common than I ever thought.

You don't happen to remember the details about when this took place do you? Like the player's name, which tournament, etc.? I'm trying to compile a list of all these sound discrepancies.

Even back then could not tell you, it was rather random. Most likely one of the LPGA majors.

i'm sure its more like the production team screwed up what mic was live

And the "other mic" was next to a player hitting a similar club at the exact moment? Extremely coincidental wouldn't you say? I've seen a good handful of these instances and all of them have taken place at the moment of impact, not when they're walking off the tee for example. Isn't it far more likely that there's a certain degree of "dubbing" going on?

It was the sound of his backswing combined with being away from the mic...it was delayed because well, sound takes time

The sound of his backswing? You can't be serious. You do bring up an interesting point though, how come we don't hear a delay on every shot that takes place a good distance "away from the mic"?

I watched about 15 minutes of the Champions Tour team event.  So many shots were obviously dubbed in with fake sound.  And whoever was doing it, was anywhere from 1/2sec to 3 seconds off time.  Player would swing, ball would take off, shot tracer was nearing its peak, player would say something like "keep cutting" and then the ball strike sound would come in.

So either the mic catching the ball was different than the mic catching his "keep cutting", and the ball mic was located about 1.7 miles away to have that sort of delay....or they were dubbing in fake sounds.

It was on tee shots, approach shots etc., and instantly made me think of this thread.

its also possible that whatever hardware/software sound processor they were using was introducing lag when trying to enhance the swing sound, while general mic sounds from the player and crowd might not be getting enhanced and come in on a separate channel. i seriously doubt they have a person doing the dubbing on every shot.

You're right, there's a handful of oddities in that tournament. (Day 3 Highlights at the 6:47 mark for example). But I'm sure they can be explained away somehow.

Here you go. Title of the clip says Tiger farts but it was actually David Feherety. You can hear Tiger laugh and ask him, "Are you serious" right after Feherety lets it fly.

Was at the Kemper Open, either 2001 or 2002... With my dad, we’re between the tee and landing area on the 6th hole. Feherety is there and we chatted him up for a minute as a group tee’d off. As that group approached, he said take care and headed out to meet them in the fairway. I think it was Stuart Appleby that he ran up to, and he yells “pull my finger”. Stuart does and from 20-30 yards away we can hear Feherety rip this monster fart! We were rolling laughing, like tears in ours eyes. One we both will always remember!
