What’s Replacing Your Ping G400 Max for 2019?

G-Bone

Recommended Posts

Never got along with Max, but did love my LST. I just replaced that with the g410 and for me it’s money. The most consistent driver I’ve played since my M2 which the head cracked last spring and it’s been a step to fill that gap for the last year. All of the reviews say good driver, just not the longest. For me it fills all my needs.

I fight a draw with my angle of attack. So the open face is something that I welcome.

I had a lst 8.5 before and it was good. Probably should have tried the t1100 in it. But if the Max head does not work spin wise I will try and track down anothe 8.5 lst head to try with the t1100.

Right now with my m4 I am in the 2600-3000 spin with 13 launch but it peaks at like 130feet. Ballspeed is 174-177

Hoping to drop it into the 2200-2400 spin 11 launch and the peak height down to the 100-115 height. Keep the ballspeed.

I have a 120-122 mph SS.

Same here. I tend to keep drivers for a for years when I find what I like. The Max is the first driver that I feel as confident hitting off the tee as a 7-iron. I'm not even interested in trying something else.

My only complaint is that tend to hit high launching, high spinning shots from time to time with my Gmax and the stock 55 gram stiff Alta shaft. It's not on every shot, and it probably has more to do with me than the club or shaft. Anyway, I'm going to give the Even Flow Black 75s a try and see if that helps keep the launch and spin down some.

My Max head is a digitally lofted 9 that I play at 8 (big minus), and mine certainly sits a bit open.

The Real PacMan,

TS2 reminds me so much of Pro Titanium 905R that I had for four years. 910 D3, 913D3, and 915D2 were alright. The feel, consistent distance and control of TS 2 blew G400 Max away for me. It could be the right shaft along with better head like my old 905R.

I got fitted into a G400 Max with a shaft shortened to 44 and weighted back up to a standard D3.

I played a round (of 18) recently where I missed one fairway. One! And that one was only about 4 or 5 feet off the fairway. I've never, ever once even come close to those results.

So I am with you...they would have to pry it from my cold dead hands.

Shaft feels good. But no bueno on the Max head for me. I don’t need help getting it in the air. And very draw bias to me. Left side to much in play with this head. Feels very forgiving just to high and to much left, even with the t1100 shaft

M4 I added some lead tape and I think I might have it figure out.

Going to put a tm tip on the t1100 and try it in the m4.

M4 just launches lower. And sits more open to me.

The Max didn’t work for me. It was too high and spinny, even set at 8* of loft. LST actually had better dispersion as well. The Max always seemed to be 15 yds behind my LST and F9. Wasn’t even close in the sound and feel department compared to the F9.

I’ve used my G400 MAX for 2 rounds so far and it’s long and straight. I’m easily picking up an extra 20 yards over my old reliable K15. I was fitted for the Tour 65 shaft and I can really feel where the clubhead is throughout my swing. Awesome feeling when the shaft kicks in just before impact. Happy camper here.

For whatever reason, I wasn't consistent with the Max. I think the lie might have been too upright for my swing. Sold it, and now playing a Titleist TS3. I really like this driver. It is long, and straight for me, and more importantly, it doesn't go left. Suprisingly forgiving as well. Unless the TS2 that I have coming performs even better, I don't foresee it leaving the bag anytime soon.

Tried to like the G then the G400, then the Max; they were all just OK for me. Thankfully I have my Wishon 919 THI as the failsafe driver. I recently discovered a XXIO 9 driver and this one is really outstanding for me. Its perhaps the ultra light weight shaft especially made for the driver.

How's the 10.5 loft treating you? You go with the regular or stiff shaft? I've read the Tour 65 is stout.
