Remember to check your DVR settings is you're recording the tournament, as it will be broadcast on two stations, FS1 and Fox.

The weather forecast looks decent with hot and humid conditions, and moderate winds. Friday has a chance for thunderstorms, but otherwise it looks clear. The heat index will be over 100 degrees, so it's going to be a real test of stamina.

The 2nd major of the year brings one of the strongest fields of the season. I'm looking forward to the professional debut of Jennifer Kupcho and Maria Fassi. They're paired with Florida's Sierra Brooks. Amateurs Yuka Saso, Alexa Pano, Andrea Lee, and Yuri Yoshida are also in the field. The groups of Minjee, Inbee, and Jin Young, and Nelly, Brooke, and Danielle should be great to watch. There are 13 players from the JLPGA in the field, including three in the world's top 50: Ai Suzuki (28), Minami Katsu (46), and Mamiko Higa (49). World #18 Jiyai Shin is int he field, along with KLPGA star Ji Hyun Kim.

Tough to pick a winner here. Jinx be d-mned, I'm going to go with Brooke. She has plenty of length off the tee, and simply needs to dial in her short irons. I'd certainly like to see Minjee pick up her first major.

In golf architecture circles, this tournament is getting a lot of comments because of the recent renovation of a Seth Raynor design. There are some very interesting features on what is essentially a flat piece of land.

Drinking game for how many times "redan" is mentioned in connection with the 11th hole. Also, there is a quasi Road Hole redo - Road Hole bunker and green complex.

Yeah, I like Brooke to play well here also. Outside the quad last week she had 4 bogies, 21 birdies and an Eagle so her form is looking good. I agree that Minjee needs to step up at the Majors, her results in them don't match the quality of her play in regular events. Nelly hasn't been around as long but she's also at the point she needs to place higher at the Majors I wanna say with recent form that Ariya, SHP and Lexi are in tough but any of the 3 could put it together and win by 5 strokes, although this seems to be more of a thing SHP does by coming out of nowhere when her game looks lost. But don't forget about Jin Young Ko, her penchant for hitting fairways and greens will playing very strongly here. We get to see some of the next wave and how they match-up but to quote the Wizard of Oz, I think a few will see "Well Dorthy, your not in Kansas anymore". I'm looking forward to this one the course looks great and should be a great test. Also the Golf Channel doesn't really like pushing events that aren't the property of NBC I see, watching Morning Drive lol

Yeah, the group of Ariya, Sung Hyun, and Lexi should be interesting. I think they have the ability to either raise the others up, or drag the others down. All three have been streaky.

@Stooch

USGA does this specially for Brooke, so she will be the first to win $1,000,000 official money in one tournament!

"The purses for both the 119th U.S. Open at Pebble Beach Golf Links and the 74th U.S. Women’s Open at the Country Club of Charleston have been increased by $500,000, furthering the USGA's commitment to provide competitors with an unmatched championship experience.

The purse for the 2019 U.S. Open will be $12.5 million, making it the largest of all major championships. This year’s U.S. Women’s Open purse will total $5.5 million, positioning it as the largest in women’s golf and ensuring that its champion – provided that she is a professional – will receive $1 million for the first time."

I really appreciate what USGA is doing on USWO's purse.

They have one goal, one and only goal; to drive up the purse in professional women's golf.

Over the years, they've done more to drive the purse up than any other entities.

Evian raised their purse to $4.1 million to be the second biggest; but they're one upped by CME Group Tour Championship who raised their purse to $5.0 million to equal the biggest at the time. With purse war heating up, ANA had no choice but to raise their purse to $3.0 million.

And the chain reaction goes on and on.

When Annika Sorenstam won in 1995, the purse was just increased from $850,000 to one million for the first time; and Annika won $175,000. USGA has done a lot since then.

This video is the best I've seen dissecting the Country Club of Charleston course

We'll find out this week not only who wins but who's the smartest of the bunch.

Is it asking too much for the USGA to get the players' names spelled correctly? I've never seen Jin Young referred to as Jinyoung. Her bag has 'Jin Young Ko' on it. Her LPGA profile is listed as 'Jin Young Ko'. The Rolex site has her listed as 'Jin-Young Ko'. Sheesh.

Oy yeh. I just noticed this on the USGA website.

Seriously? Paula Creamer is a player to look out for based on her strokes gained 9 years ago? A player who has missed more than half her cuts this season, and who's best finish is 32T? A player who hasn't finished in the top 10 since June 2017?

I think this will a bit more exciting to watch considering the winner will be getting a seven figure prize money for the first time in history..

many will say that they won't be thinking about the money but believe me---they will.

I will now have to shuttle my tv viewing between this and the Memorial but am sure I can handle it...I hope!

PS: will also be excited to watch our Yuka Saso play and hopefully make a good showing..

All Koreans ought to follow Inbee's lead and write their first name as such. Koreans don't have two first names but the way they romanize them makes it seem so. And it encourages Western broadcasters to refer to them by initials, which is kind of rude and dehumanizing. I doubt that Sung Hyun Park has ever in her whole life introduced herself as "S.H. Park". Far as I know among Korean golfers only In-Kyung Kim has self-identified with initials.

From Golfweek:

"Can’t miss groups

7:44 a.m./1:29 p.m. – Inbee Park/Jin-Young Ko, Minjee Lee

8:28 a.m./2:13 p.m. – Jennifer Kupcho, Maria Fassi and Sierra Brooks

8:06 a.m./1:51: p.m. – Lexi Thompson, Ariya Jutanugarn, Sung Hyun Park

8:17 a.m./2:02 p.m. – Nelly Korda, Brooke Henderson, Danielle Kang

1:29 p.m./7:44 a.m. – Karrie Webb, Laura Davies, Leona Maguire.

2:02 p.m./8:17 a.m. – Morgan Pressel, Paula Creamer, Gerina Piller "

Would we really say that about the 1:29 and 2:02 groups, that they're "Can't Miss...?" I respect those golfers, but I will definitely be missing them.
