Correct, and when 7-3 are speed slot and the 8-A are not that poses a problem.

That’s what the fitter is for to get lofts, lie, etc set during the fitting based on the demo head. The number of people that will have gap issues is small and more than likely that’s going to be build issue. The fitter should be able to tell if anything needs tweaking on the order

Yep - but still working them to bring in some additional irons. Think I have that figured out now. Both fitters agreed it is a challenge (GT and CC).

I got fitted for them after being a Ping i200 user. Despite the positive fitting, after about 10 rounds I am over them. I hit them all over the planet. Hit a few great shot but a bunch of junk in between and they don't have that buttery feel when you middle them. So I just bought some Apex Pro Combo and using them tomorrow for first time.

What do you attribute to your lack of accuracy? I understand your statement about feel, as that's fully subjective, but I'm curious why you'd hit them "all over the planet" relative to your i200s? Different shafts?

Played the Apex today and loved them. Stock shaft. 2* up. Maybe just my eye or something about the shaft (KBS Tour 90) in the P790, but getting fit and purchasing through Cool Clubs felt like a waste of money when I hit off the rack i200 and Apex pro combo better.

Ok I’ll be that guy...

I really wanted to love these, as it seems that more and more lower HC’s are using them but I just can’t hop on the bandwagon. Topline and sole are way too thick with barely any trailing or leading edge relief, offset isn’t too bad surprisingly, much better than the 2017 790‘s but the feel is just so empty for me, feels like an aluminum baseball bat, sorry but there’s a big difference between a soft, solid feel and a soft, clicky feel. These just don’t feel forged to me, feedback is absolutely terrible with these as well, can’t tell where you’re hitting on the face half the time.

Putting it on GC Quad and the data was just...wow, 190 carry with the 7 iron, but with 4800 spin and absolutely awful descent angles, moving up to the 8 iron, 155 carry with 5200 spin and almost identical decent angles...that gap was enough right there to steer me away but I decided to move into the 5 iron, 205 carry, 3400 spin.... how can anyone play these in an actual gaming situation? Sorry but there are so many other great options out there with better levels of consistency.

(P760’s-$$$)

(Srixon Z Series)

(Mizuno JPX 919 Forged) Literally neck and neck forgiveness wise but with more consistency

Even the new Cobra Forged Tec’s gave me way more consistent yardages throughout the whole set.

And before anybody decides to pitchfork me please note this is really just my opinion, of you can make these work as a full set without having to worry about gapping and consistency then more power to ya!

low spin and lowish descent angle can be improved by changing to a shaft that fits your swing and increases spin and launch along with playing the lofts a degree weak. you'll get the benefits of forgiveness, ball speed, and closer to ideal numbers to perform on course

Tried 5 different shafts with the 790’s:

PX LZ

DG 105’s (Stock)

Modus 120’s (My go to)

KBS $ Taper Lite

KBS $ Taper

All of these had little to no effect in spin, 300-600 rpm increase at the most.

Correct, I could have the lofts weakened but weakening them by 1 degree would give me a very minimal increase in spin and weakening the lofts any more than 1 degree would raise the leading edge bounce and create inconsistent turf interaction.

Just really not a fan of these at address, way too chunky and just a tad bit too much offset, nothing I couldn’t look past but too many red flags in performance to even think about taking these out to a course. Great on the range though!

Mark Crossfield did a review on these, and he seemed to like their performance.....and that’s saying something because he hasn’t been a big fan of Taylor Made lately. He thought that the spin looked low with the dry ball data in the studio, but he was consistently hitting the distances that he wanted out on the course.

Crossfield did a review on the 2017 model, the review was made prior to TaylorMade dropping him off the club testing list.

Trust me, I’m speaking on behalf of myself on this subject, not anyone else and especially not Crossfield, he can make a 15 degree hybrid stop on a green from 60 yards out.

All I’m trying to say is distance isn’t everything, especially when it comes to irons and unfortunately, too many amateurs chase distance and launch monitor data but then can’t convert it onto a course.

Sorry if I offended anyone on here, not my intention at all, just giving my honest input, that’s all.

No offense taken at all. I actually have never owned a Taylor Made product and I still don't have any because I didn't like the way that they churned and burned through new releases and the value of their equipment dropped so quickly, but these irons have me intrigued. (There are other companies now using that same business model). I like a clean club with no bling and some forgiveness so I'm going to give them a try. You are correct, his review was on the 2017 model, but my post was simply to show that results can be different out on the course compared to inside on a TrackMan.

I have the new P790's and flat out they are the best irons I have owned, long easy to work and stop well..... I have gone with the Smacwrap Recoils, getting old, and I am playing better than ever.....I had the originals then typical Golf WRX style I tried a bunch of other irons, its like a lot of things these days there are very few bad irons, because if there were they just would not sell.......

20 rounds with the New P790 since i got them on labor day weekend. Minor marks on the 9 iron.

Black paint on the Gap wedge(A) faded in three weeks

Overall the clubs still look good. I just got the 4 iron 2 weeks ago.

I spent the better part of 2 days (about an hour) each day hitting these in a simulator. I played these against the Apex Pros and the numbers, consistency, and launch angle were all on about 19 degrees with the P790, but closer to 21 degrees with the Apex Pros. Ultimately, I settled on the S300 DG shaft as it gave me the weight I was looking for. I thought the feedback on mis-hits was pretty solid in the simulator. I haven’t hit these outside quite yet, but I am looking forward to getting them and doing so. I feel like it will be a great upgrade from my CF16’s.

Forgot to mention I might be getting them bent slightly. They’re going to stick me back on the sim when they come in.

Let me know how you hit them. What shaft did you get?

paint is not a big issue for me.

The positive of the clubs helping my game out weight pain.

My long iron game has changed for the better. Its probably a combo of the speed slot and the modus 120 shaft.

Also playing a tour golf ball pro v1 srixon q-star helps adding more spin.

I realize playing distance golf balls was a bad idea.
