Yellow pro v1’s are harder than white. Convince me I’m wrong.

Reviving this thread. Anyone else feel this way? I’ve even chipping prov’s in the backyard and I swear the yellow ones feel harder. It’s only about 20-30

yard chips but I can feel/hear a difference.

I agree. I play the yellow pro v1 because I swear they spin less than the white ones. I’m adamant they spin less so I guess that’s good for me.  I find them to be more curable too.

  • 1 year later...

Managed to hit yellow Pro v1 today against white pro v1 which are probably 5-10 years old.

Cover feels more durable.

Those white pro v1 feel more crisp and lighter.

Yellow pro v1 feel more dull and heavier.

Distance was similiar with PW/SW/8i.

Subjectively felt the white ones were easier to hit and feels nicer. Maybe I'm just more use to them. Yellow definitely felt more dull.

I play the current pro v’s in both colours and alternate when I feel like it. I see no  difference in feel or performance other than durability. Yellow seems to last longer or at minimum hides the degradation. Distance, spin and feel all seems the same to me.

I’m a Driver - 275y, 7 iron - 175y guy for reference.

It is my understanding that the ProV1 yellow and white balls are not the same. But Titleist worked to make the performance of both balls the same as they could. So if it feels harder to you it may be.  The Titleist ball fitting tool makes you select whether you're using a white or yellow ProV ball (if your current ball is a Titleist) which is weird as other companies give you a ball suggestion and mention that it's available in both yellow and white.  It is probably because the balls are different and feel different.  Personally, I use the new yellow pro V1 only and love it. Haven't used a white one in quite some time.

They don’t make you choose between white and yellow because they ‘feel different’. It’s just to find out your color preference. Nothing more than that.

I think the difference is in your mind. But that does not make it any less real.

for you.

Is that like Rodney Dangerfield's line from Caddyshack, "It looks good on you"?

I was thinking along the lines of a placebo. Placebos work because the mind tells you it will work. So it becomes really.

I hate yellow balls but got a sleeve this morning at the course because yellow is all they had.  Feel and performance I noticed nothing different, but I would have to say the yellow cover is more durable.  On 18 I hit my drive about 260 and landed on the cart path, and took a huge bounce as expected.  I was expecting the ball to be mangled but there was only a small smudge, barely noticeable.  I’d say I’d keep playing them but I hate them.  Also they are impossible to see in the morning when the grass is wet and there is glare.

I just bought a pack of yellow prov1x and used my fingernail to compare the finishes to my white prov1x. The white left more of an indentation every single time (with different amounts of pressure applied) which confirms to me that the whites coating are a touch softer/less durable. Whether or not it plays different is to be determined

There is zero way you can tell the difference in a couple hundred RPMs from shot to shot.  You are talking about 1-2 yards on a driver and even less on anything else.

It is in your head.
