Callaway SUPER!! Hybrid review

Just picked up the 20 degree. I’ve only hit two shots with it. So I need to get some range time in to get it dialed.

Plan/experiment is to use this as the only club between the mini driver and my first iron.

We're going on a Minimalist Adventure who knows were we'll end up:

"Full" 10-Club Bag currently looks like this:

Taylormade BRNR Mini Copper 13.5

Taylormade Sim Max 7w Mitsubishi Diamana F Limited 75S

Titleist 818H1 25* Fuji Atmos Black 9s

Callaway Mavrik Pro 7-PW Project X Rifle Tour Flighted 105 6.0

Vokey SM9 50.08F

Vokey SM9 56.10S

White Hot OG #1

Srixon Z Star/Chrome Soft X

I have RBZ 3 wood regular flex and the 17 degree SH in stiff flex. The plan with the SH was to find something easier to hit off the deck then my 3 wood. On good hits with the 3 wood, I can get about 250.  The SH is hard to launch for me, I don't think I am a fan of the Tensei Orange. Any other shaft recommendations?

try out a recoil dart hybrid shaft, i tried a bunch of different shafts and that one was clearly the winner.

I have a 20 degree that i can hit off the tee and off the grass perfectly. Feels great and goes far

After some range time today with it I’m happy with it. Will have to play more on course to see if it sticks but on the range it seems long enough for what I’m looking for. Turned it to 19* and like the flight I’m getting. It’s good off a tee and definitely easier to hit off the ground than any fairway wood I’ve had. It’s also a bit easier to hit than a rogue hybrid that’s not in the bag right now. It reminds me of an epic flash 5wood I had but it’s easier to hit.

very easy to hit, awesome off the fairways and great on tight par 4. For me it goes further and straighter then the 19 degree hybrid it replaced and my Super Hybrid is 20 degrees. Good luck

I've had one for about a year - the 20 turned up to 21.  I needed to fill a gap between my 4i and 5w and this consistently carries 230ish.  It's not as draw-biased as other hybrids I've hit, but it'll want to go left if I don't consciously think about it.  I've thought about trying a 7wood for the flatter lie angle but I'll stick with this for now.

Ventus likely staying in the bag. Contact so much better than the pro orange and launch is much better. More like a fairway wood now.

I had the ventus blue in the 17* and loved it off the tee. I just couldn’t elevate it off the deck.  Went back to the 20* with Oban Devotion and launching it much better now.

i have the Super Hybrid and love it. Ordered the new Super epic hybrid December 1st and the Recoil Dart shaft is holding up delivery. According the Callaway the club will ship mid February. I ordered the 18 degree and will post updates once i try it out.

So what can you tell us between the two? what stuck in the bag?

I posted this in a thread comparing the two:

I have both, the original in 17 degree and the new one in 16 degree.  For me, the original looks a little better lining the ball up, the newer Epic one is a little more tiny fairway shaped.  Although the newer one doesn’t fit my eye as well as the original, I use the newer one.
Playability wise, the original is a little lower spin for me, a little too low spin for me at times.  The newer Epic model tends to spin a little more, even being listed at 1 degree lower loft.  Turf interaction wise is where I see the biggest performance difference.  For me, the original plays like it has a sharper leading edge and the newer Epic plays like it has more bounce.  Almost like the original plays like a Mizuno iron with the turf interaction and feels a little more sharp than the newer Epic, where as the Epic plays more like a Ping iron with the bounce/turf interaction.

In summation, I think the original plays better for a more solid ball striker, with less variation in how your swing interacts with the turf.  I don’t always strike the ball solid, so I find the newer model more forgiving for my swing.  Otherwise, the original feels and looks better to me.

They ate both extremely hot, almost playing like a fairway for distance and much more accurate than a fairway for me, but I think it will come down to which one has the turf interaction that suits your swing better when choosing between the two

Still have the Epic SH in the bag.  I can’t think of anything thing else outside of my comparison in the post above

Now that this club has been out for a while, is anyone still playing it? Any long term comparisons to the newer Epic Super Hybrid?

I just bought a 2020 17* Super Hybrid.

I couldn’t fight the curiosity!

Waiting for it to come in the mail.

Based on this article, the OG launches higher and spins less?
