Callaway SUPER!! Hybrid review

Recommended Posts

So I got to hit this tonight and I am wildly impressed. So, I found out it is designed by the same guy that did the Adams super hybrid a few years back. Hence the “super” name. The head is a bit bigger and falld in between a fairway wood and your standard hybrid, its big, but it looks great. The adjustability is nice and the feel is great. The Ti Face on this feels super solid and super hot.

For me as someone that has not had a fairway wood in my bag for a while. It would be a good addition as I get plenty of distance out of it. The claims that it could replace fairway woods are true. It is a big bomber (see GCquad pic below). I am still not sure if the shaft is the pro or not. I am still inclined to think it is legit, but I honestly am not sure.

One of the claims of this club was that they were trying to take the left bias out of this hybrid. To try and change that stereotype for this club. I Found that to be true. It is the least "hook'y" hybrid I have hit. Also found it to be easily hit both ways and workable high and low. Something few hybrids do for me. The price is crazy though, $319 for a hybrid is no joke. But I guess if you can use these rather than a fairway wood. You may be able to justify it... maybe.

I did like it, a lot.. for you better players with cash laying around. You may want to try one and see if you can fill a gap with it. For me the 17 cranked down to 16 would fill a gap perfectly between my driver and my longest iron. It would work well off the tee or if I wanted to hit it from a fairway.

ROCKET LAUNCHER!! I am always stuck between 19* hybrid and 18* 5 wood and when I have the hybrid, need the 5 wood, never fails, this would be closer to 5 wood and can choke down and take some off of it easily!!

I agree. I can see it being a good gap filler, but I also could se it being completely pointless for many.

Set my Fw to 14* and put this at 17* should be a monster and fill that gap.

Great write up @QuigleyDU! Quick question, how do you think the 20 degree would fit as a 5w/2i replacement?

It's an interesting club. Not sure it's something that will find it's way into my bag or not. I don't know that it would fill any particular need no matter how badly I'd want it to work.

Good numbers though and I appreciate you sharing them.

I honestly think it would be great. I guess it would just depend some one what you wanted or needed it to do. I have a cobra utility that I have set strong that I love as my two iron. I don’t know if I would want to replace it with one of these, but I could see many doing so. It is a solid feeling club and the performance is there.

It is really good. I really liked it. I liked that it is a shorter length club offering greater control but still able to produce very good ball speed.

It is bigger over all. It is only like 15 cc smaller than a callaway 5 wood. Plus, it has a titanium face, and they really did a good job of taking the left bias out of it.

They are the update of the Big Bertha hybrids, in my opinion. Hold them side-by-side they're almost identical, including the bottoms.

I would agree with this, but more of an upgraded big Bertha than an updated one. Semantics I know but I think there is a bit of a difference.

Yeah, I hit them side by side and never pulled the Super, Big Bertha had the occasional pull...Not sure if this was related to my swing with the BB or the forgiveness of the Super...

They put that new weighting system in. Looks pretty cool in the x-ray pictures.
