I'm in the market (if anyone wants to free themselves of a 17*) as soon as they are back in stock. Possible the Coronavirus has delayed manufacture and shipping?

I never actually bought one. For me personally while it is a great club. I do not see it being a fit in my bag. It is a fairly niche product almost like a mini driver.

I have the 17* and 20* with a Mav SZ 3+ and an Apex Pro 4 iron bookending them. The only complaint I HAD about them really isn't a complaint; they're such a unique club that it took a longer period to adjust to them than usual with a new club. Initially, my "mush for brains" self just couldn't make heads or tails of how to set up to and play them. Is this a hybrid? Is it a fairway wood? This looks like a club that should want to go hard left, but it doesn't. This looks like club that should make an offensive sound at impact, but it doesn't. Now that I've had some time to practice with them, they are both a tremendous asset in what used to be the weakest area of my bag.

The only concern I have now is the suspicion that there may not be much of distance gap between my Mav SZ 3+ and the 17* particularly from the deck. Not a huge problem as I prefer to hit the SZ for tee shots where a draw is needed while the shorter shaft makes the SH 17* the more confidence inspiring option when not on the tee box. I haven't had a chance to get TrackMan data for the 3+ and 17*, but I suspect there won't be much of distance gap there if any at all. If that sounds like a knock on the Mav SZ it's not; the SH is just that much of a fire breathing monster.

Interesting that you have this set up, as I have the 17 degree super hybrid and a Mavrik 3+ on the way. I stopped hitting 3 wood off the deck last year, and moved to the Rogue 2 hybrid, and this was very effective for me. The 3+ is for short par 4's and any tight driving hole when the driver gets squirrely.

I think you'll find that set-up to be very effective as both clubs offer their best utility in different situations. This makes the apparent lack of a distance gap between them less of a problem.

The last 3 wood I played was the m3 and it was too long to be useful at my club. I'd say the m3 carried about 15-20 yards longer and ran out more. We have hazards on both sides on almost every hole and water straight away on a few less than driver holes. It got me in a lot of trouble.

I've only had the super hybrid on the course. Carry distance has been about 250-60 for me. I haven't played in anything warmer than 55* yet. But it has a higher flight and is much more controllable.

Funny you say that, I'm getting along with my 17* more than the 20* as well.

I know there aren't many more around, but I'd be curious to see the SH side by side with the '06 Adams 4555. With so many former Adams folks in the Callaway R&D shop, I'd bet they're quite similar.

FIRST THING I said was .... "Dang that looks like my 3070DF!"

I had both the 3070DF and 4555. 16° and 19° respectively.

My opinion, the Super Hybrid looks more like the 3070DF because of the softer edges and face height. The 4555 had squarer edges. I think the 4555 was a bit shorter heel to toe and deeper faced.

But definitely, all 3, from the same tree!

I think it's a great club if it fits your bag. I'm still toying with the idea of grabbing one to test on course.

Yeah, me too which is why I was hoping to hear more. I'm about to get one to test to see if I can replace my 5 wood with one - even see if it might kick my 3 wood out as well which would be very interesting. The shorter shaft length for improved accuracy is especially interesting if I can get the same distance as my fairways.

From my limited testing its shorter (about 10-15yds) than my 3 wood but would be a great replacement for anyone who wants to replace a 4 or 5 wood. Trajectory is more mid as compared to a 5 wood loft for loft.

@SMUGamer I tested both of those lofts but i'm referring to the 17*. I lofted down to 16* and it was about 10-15yds shorter than my 3 wood. Overall I found it to be extremely consistent across the face and one of those clubs i'd love to test on course against my 3 and 5 wood to see where it would fit it best. I think by starting the lofts at 17* it confuses people more than if they started at 15 or 16*. IMO that was a mistake. If you start at 16* of loft with the easy ability to get to 15* I think people would try it as a 3/4 wood replacement for improved accuracy. 17* is kind of a weird loft.

I would agree with those numbers. Considering it is a hybrid. 10-15 yards is pretty amazing in comparison to a fairway wood.

I have been playing these but limited rounds due to weather. Here are my thoughts so far:

Pros

They have a nice feel at impact

They set up nicely behind the ball

They are fade biased, with the Pro Orange shaft

They are longer than hybrids but alittle shorter than a fairway wood

Cons

My consistency hasn't been great with these so far, but I haven't spent a lot of time getting them figured out (ball position, etc.)

I don't have any other Cons to speak of. I will probably get alittle more playing time over the next few weeks, since there isn't anything else to do, and I will report back. If I can become more consistent with them, with alittle practice, then I will be very happy to keep them in the bag.

Don't want to detract from the thread but it was time to move on and i got tired of hunting down sets. Hopefully Srixon goes back to those irons because i don't like the new stuff at all. Honma's have the shape i love so they are in.
