Did Cameron Custom Shop Botch this putter?

Yikes...I have a putter at the custom shop right now getting redone and this makes me a little uneasy.

I did, definitely not paint by the N Y in NAVY, looks like the finish is scratched or damaged.

Mushrooming from the stamping could have lifted the finish and created a "matte" effect in the local area, basically tiny, tiny wrinkles. Or the base of the stamp around the letters contacted the area. Either way, stamping finished surfaces can be tricky, and is usually advised before applying the finish in the first place to avoid issues like this. I know you had no other choice.

Likely what happened, below is a putter the custom shop did about 6-7 years ago, even the quality of the stamping was better back then. Same type of finish on this Select, from ‘12-13.

Just the fact that they screwed up a putter that was meant to commemorate a significant milestone in my family, to have to go through all of that would stain the memory and instead of representing what it was meant to; it would be a reminder of the sh@t show it was to get it right. I would rather throw it out and start over (likely to give Slighter a call now that he is back in the putter game, and he made the putter for one of my first fathers day)

I know how you feel... it's a raw deal for anyone to have to experience this kind of poor service.

But they did take it back and hopefully they get it right, then all this is a mute point.

I would be so incredibly pissed if this was my putter! For what the CS charges nowadays this is completely unacceptable. Bigger question is how did this even leave the shop thinking nobody would care once received?

The only mitigation is to send you a new head and re-stamp right?

 

I don't know how much good it'll do if they cover existing stamps over, re-apply finish, re-stamps.

They really don'y care, they are not going to ever go above and beyond. $hitty company, lost a ton of respect for them because it took alot of pushing to get it corrected, and we still don't know how it will turn out.

There was a day when the CS would throw on an experimental finish to make up for it. For example, I had an oil can refinish where the finish would wipe away, so they threw on a 3x OC finish in the redo. That was over 10 years ago though.

All of this is really disappointing. I have been golfing for 25 years and still playing my Odyssey Rossi blade with the black stronomic insert. I just finished paying for all of my kids college and decided I was going to treat myself with a high end putter. I figured I would buy a Scotty Cameron and have it customized. At this point, I’m not going to do it.

I had my Mil-Spec refinished some years ago from SC. it took a while because it didn't meet their standards so they had to re-do it. I got lucky and arrived it amazing shape. I don't think i'll ever send another one in. you're not the first horror story. TCC has plenty of them. some with good outcomes. plenty of stories of the custom shop not wanting to admit fault. it's not what it used to be that's for sure.

No actually was a big fan. Have several scottys. Lost my taste for them in dealing with a few of their customer service reps over this.

Got the putter back on Friday, they did get it right this time. This time it looks great, a shame they couldn’t do it this way the first time. Now let’s Beat Navy this December!
