Just a bizarre thought, but wouldn't it be funny if Rick Shiels did review the Masterfit wide soles and say they were nearly as good or better than the clubs they mimic? To be fair, I think calling them junk may be a bit extreme, but what I do understand, is that most of us (myself included) are of the opinion they are not what the OP paid for them.

While I get that it can be frustrating if you feel someone is not taking good advice, IMO, belittling them further, name calling (which has no place in this forum) or posting simply to demean the OP for having purchased them or for taking or not taking any action he deems appropriate at this point really is not going to help anyone is it? I think and I would hope that we, the GolfWrx community, are better than that, aren't we?

I look at it this way.

how much would you pay now in 2020 for a set of 04 Big Bertha irons? Now take a fraction of that since they are knockoffs...then look at what Paddy paid for them. Coupled with the fact that there is zero resale value, I’d say they are junk.

plus, those shafts are a complete joke and the fitters are pushing them (also very outdated) like they’re some of the select few good enough for Tour.

Total junk equipment and shop pushing it at inflated values.

As I said, I agree they are not worth what is being charged for them but fair market value has little to nothing to do with performance. To call them junk, to me, is a reflective of their performance as a golf iron, not their value... so I suppose we just look this differently. That said, would I ever tell someone to buy Masterfit irons? No, it's not likely.. but again that is largely due to their perspective value.

He said he can’t hit them and the set they built have totally different weighting than the demo during the fitting. So poor components, poor quality control = junk. How’s that? Fit your description now? I know this thread is several pages long at this point, but you would’ve been aware of all of this had you read it. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, we’re not knocking the guys gear just for the hell of it.

When I swung the irons the angle of attack was better than the hawkeyes they went farther too. When I got the irons on the course I would hit them fat. The heads are really heavy and bottom out with my swing. They go a country mile but it's like a trampoline when you catch them. They never hold greens. In fact a few of my friends on a particular green were up around the green and witnessed the club come in so hot it jumped off the green and went OB We all laughed.

The hawkeyes when they hit greens stay on or barely role off. Thats problem one. And like I mentioned they are really heavy the heads. When you swing back you have to engage a lot of fore arm strength. It messes up the whole swing.

We’re not looking at this any differently. 400$ for knockoff irons, and outdated shafts is most definitely junk relative to what he could’ve gotten with his 400$. You can get a set that is a couple years old with the newest tech, and actual credibility as a OEM. View it this way...You’re traveling and you pay for a room at the Ritz...upon entering you realize your room is that from a motel 6....You see the problem here?..... Junk indeed...

You are quick to post images of the clubs in question, and people are still doubting your story.  Could you please take a picture of the receipt from MasterFit to prove this story is actually legit? Cover up any personal info that would identify you (name, address etc), and then we can see if this is for real or a troll job of the decade.

If I was in your area (I'm in Canada) I would certainly offer to assist you with the confrontation at MasterFit. It would honestly be an easy conversation, and you can walk away with your relationship intact, and both parties satisfied. Good luck either way.

Called up and asked about getting the heads replaced with the Musclebacks. He said that was a good idea and will call me back to see what they can do for me. I explained my situation that the heads are really large and heavy. Hoping I can get the muscle back heads and get some improvement with those. It might cost me some more money, I am going to wait and see what they can do for me. I asked if they could at least replace one iron so I could test it out for free and they think he can do that for sure. I'm hoping and praying I can get all new heads like these.

640_m6iron.jpgThese do look pretty sweet. Especially compared to the thick soles LOL

Do these look game improvement to you? He said they were offset. I'm hoping I can hit draws and fades with these, by changing my grip and stance.

First to be clear upfront and hoping to avoid at least part of the oncoming barrage... I'm not advocating anything but I do understand that Paddy is not happy with his current Masterfit set and I believe he wants to minimize confrontation and I get that.

Paddy -

Given that you are willing to work with your fitter and Masterfit amicably, if it were me, I'd sure press hard not to be charged any extra. Why? Because a good part of what they do is provide a service and this is an opportunity for them to step up to the plate and do the right thing for their customer. I would have no qualms about making it clear to them that this was how I felt.

Also, If you are going to do a swap out... they should allow you to go back and hit several heads, not so much for the numbers, but just to make sure you are picking something that feels right to you and you would be more satisfied with. (you probably are not going to like anything you do not hit well anyway)

It just feels like to me that at this point you being able to be a bit more happy with the whole mess is the most important thing now.

In no way should he spend an extra cent there. But I don’t see it playing out that way, so my advice Paddy is if you go down this road, insist on them swingweighting the demo club I hit and the comparable one in my set (ex, 6i/6i).

If it’s wildly different, which I’ve got a hunch it will be because the component heads probably have very wide manufacturing tolerances, then you should let them know them it’s not acceptable and insist on head swaps free of charge, at the swingweight you like.

Paddy, it’s all very simple. You have an approach here to make it evidence based, which should make it less confrontational.

1:58 tee time and posting at 1:24. Hmmmmmm.

Anywho, the a question is, "Did you ASK them for your money back".

And question 1A is "How are you a 20.3 handicap ? How do you calculate./track your handicap ? You said/implied you can't break (or have trouble breaking ?) 100. "

TIA

I'm sticking with these hawkeyes I had a lot of success and to be honest they have really treated me well. No reason to upgrade these are my irons. Masterfit driver was really good too, I like that shaft it helps hold off misses to the right.

Short game needs a little improvement but the wedges played well. I don't have a 100 yard club, the 46 with the 9 iron graphite goes 115. I think I am going to have to put the 52 back in my bag, it's my 100 yarder.

In reality those turd shovels are the only bad part...

BTW I never received a phone call and when I called back up the fitter wasn't available....... I think I am getting ghosted on even get the heads switched.

I doubt any of their irons can out play the Hawkeyes.. Lesson learned, launch monitors and mats aren't the same thing as playing off of tight fairways. Just saying......

Ummmm I'm .6 miles from the golf course. My neighbor across the street backyard touches hole number 8.....

BTW my HDCP is now 23.1 after shooting a 50 on 9..... I did have 3 pars and almost had another one but missed a 6 footer.

Yeah Paddy why do you say that when you haven’t even asked? With that defeatist attitude, of course you won’t get anything back and in fact they’ll see it as another opportunity to sell you additional stuff.

You have to ask.

Go re-read the various posts here. It’s been laid out for you how to proceed.

On another note, it’s 4:50 so you should be through 9. Please report your score and any action shots of the MF on the course!

Paddy you were told several times that this MUST be done in person. Now you just screwed your self because you showed them your hand. Since they don’t have to answer you to your face, they’re taking their time planning an excuse to tell you NO.

good job, you did the exact opposite of all the advice here and blew it
