Irons shortened how much weight to I add back?

I got 3/4 of an inch cut off my callaway epic irons at Edwinn Watts. How much weight in tape do I need to add back to the head? Thanks.

4.5 grams. In the club making section there is a chart pinned that shows the effects of certain things, such as shortening clubs and adding weight, on swing weight.

Depends on how they feel right now - no weight might be needed.

As above. Add weight back slowly with lead tape. You may find you may need less than you think. Or, you may find you need more than you think. It will vary with each individual.

Buy a roll of high density lead tape and tinker with it until you find the right weight for yourself. You may need more than you think.

Approximately 9 grams if you want to get back to the original SW. But as others have mentioned, add the weight gradually until you get the results you're looking for.

The actual weight to be added varies by the club length. It's usually close enough that the 2g per swingweight point gets you close, but if you want precision, you can use this chart that's published in Hireko's DSFI (formerly published by Dynacraft):

Exactly this. You should only target "where they were" if you know for a fact that that is/was the best fit for you. Club weight/swing weight is not a one size fits all spec and should be tailored to the individual.

Swing weight is a strange fellow, and hardly anyone is fitted to play the standard value, and they dont even represent the same resistance when we change play lengths, so to reset the original value is not a good idea. The way forward is to grab your favorite iron, and add weight on the club head until that club works as you want it. Go by feel and impact. If impact is against the toe, try more weight, if impact is against the heel, dial back.

 

This chart who is for the Work shop - NOT FITTING, shows how many grams to get back to the original value, but you can use it based on your favorite club like this:

Lets say this club is your #8 iron, and that club now plays to 36.50" who is 0.75" shorter than standard. We get to the original SW value by adding 9.9 Grams, but yours might work better at 6.6 grams added like the chart for 4/8" butt cut shows. If thats so, take the short cut and use the same row (4/8") to get the others on that slope. The same if 13.1 grams is the best on the favorite (row for 1.0" butt cut), then use that row for the others too. Play length is length NOW after butt cut.
