Do tour Pros Cheat? - Mysterious international guy

Was reading Golf Digest's Under Cover Caddy on Do tour Pros Cheat and came across this:

"Yes, we all have stories. Hard not to after nearly a decade out here. But it’s not as prevalent or excessive as some might believe. Even the players who carry less-than-stellar reputations, or have been dinged before, are not as bad as they’re portrayed. In my estimation, and talking with other caddies, these guys often make unintentional mistakes that rarely happen twice. Well, save for one international guy. Just an absolute nightmare when it comes to law-breaking. Whatever trick you can imagine—fudging coins, liberal drops, patting behind the ball for a better lie—he does it, and does so without remorse. His big tell is carrying a driver or fairway wood from the tee to his position in the rough. Takes out more grass than a weed whacker. But, honestly, he’s the exception."

Any ideas on who he is referring to?https://www.golfdigest.com/story/undercover-caddie-do-tour-pros-cheat-heres-your-answer

Sergio? Dude moved some pine needles/twigs at Augusta on Sunday, saw the ball jostle, paused his action which means he saw it move. The proceeded to say he didn't see anything. Cheated to win the green jacket and he knows it in his own mind. My 70" 4K TV on the special DirectTV channel feed showed it clear as day. Ball moved, he paused, then continued motion.

This stuff happens all the time. I played and do play a lot of State Am events and locals. Guys cheat left and right out there. I have seen guys hit it 30 yards into the woods and all of a sudden come out of there with a shot or he always finds his ball or somehow it ends up on the edge of the fairway. Must have hit something.

I don't even watch anymore. I just go about my own game. Pro's can't really get away with that but they do enough small things. Not all of them but more than we think.

That's why the P Reed thing didn't really jive with me. He is on camera. He knows he is. Nobody and I mean nobody is that stupid to try and get away with that in front of everybody.

The “international player” mentioned above certainly points to Sergio, but you never know. As far as the cheating on tour, I think what Patrick Reed did, the generous drops from penalty areas where the ball last crossed way back from where the player says it did, and putting a half dozen clubs down behind the ball before deciding what to hit so the back sits like a cherry on a sundae is not uncommon. Not to mention “the ball might have moved, I’m not sure. But I am certain I didn’t cause it” is the default position now. Rules officials are spineless now on tour. Slugger White would agree to just mark Phil down for a 4 if he insisted on it long enough.

its nothing new, Gary Player’s statue in the Hall of Fame should show him plopping down a 3 wood behind the ball in tall rough before deciding on a 9 iron from 135.

Keegan Bradley was called out for the "tamping down" numerous times. The ball was practically on a tee by the time he was finished. Not so much anymore that I've seen. But plenty of guys do a little "lean on the club" just before takeaway these days. It's quick and like "balk" moves in baseball, if it becomes part of your normal routine, it isn't a balk.

In my 41 years of playing it is sad to find the players with the highest ability are more prone to either bending the rules or downright dishonesty. One of our club champs could find a rabbit scraping in the bar or locker room and whoa does he kick off if his partners refuse a drop. As for Sergio...no. Try further East, a lot further East.

To much money to be made now. The stakes are high. Especially with guys who are trying to just feed them self's. Sergio ? He's generally a douchbag. If he had any kind of an emotional toughness we would have been talking about one of the greatest of all time. He is that talented. When he can get his mind under control, he wins the Masters.

He's a poster boy of wasted talent. Might as well cheat, he's not going to win much otherwise.

Ive posted 10 times at least this.

Since the DJ and Lexi incident we now see that the rules of golf where never intended for zoom high def Tv. Why ? Plenty of players have always bent the rules. Now , we can actually see it. And it looks ugly. In my short stint in this game I’ve noticed and now know that a lot of good players fudge. Especially marking on greens and drops from hazards. Just watch close , I’ll bet you can find a guy who marks in front of his ball then replaces ball in front with coin behind pretty easily.

Just part of the game. Now it’s visible.

You make it sound like he'e never won anything LOL

He's got over 30 scattered wins spanning 2 decades. Spent over 400 weeks in the top 10, a Major and a Players. Surely there are other talents that are more wasted.

I know. Your right, he has won but I always believed he almost had as much physical ability as Tiger. Mentally he's a small child compared to Tiger. I believe if he had some type of control over his emotions those two would have been very close rivals.

When he does have control over himself he wins. There are not many more talented than him.

Of course, it's my opinion.
