Nike Footwear 2020 (NO BUY/SELL/TRADE POSTS)

Recommended Posts

This is the most absurd thing I have ever read on WRX, which is super impressive . Sounds to me like you let a shoe get into your head and the mental game took over. I was on vacation recently and one of my playing partners forgot his shoes and played in regular walking shoes. He was giving me 2 shots, who knew I should have actually been giving him 8.

Wow. You are very talented. I'm not. I need every technology advantage I can get to be able to consistently shoot in the low to mid 70s. For me, shoes can make a huge difference. So can shafts. And gloves.

I love posts that have "Sounds to me..." in them. So many unknown geniuses out there in the Internet world.

Did he shoot in the low 70s wearing regular walking shoes? How about you? If not, then maybe it's the shoes. Or maybe not. Think about it.

Like I said, these are by far the most comfortable golf shoes I've ever worn, but...for me...the grip and lateral stability are horrible. "Your results may vary." And that's ok.

Evidently Koepka needed to find the right shoe to start making cuts again and be near the top of the leader board. There's a reason why he is embarrassing Nike and going with a different shoe that they don't even make anymore after they exclusively featured him in its advertising.

I work for a F100 company. If we spent millions in advertising a product using an athlete as the spokesperson, and that athlete started using a different product that we no longer made, the CEO would be screaming on the phone at that athlete and his agent.

So for Koepka to risk Nike's trust (who pay him a lot of money), he must have had a very good reason. For him, the TPs work better. They have better grip and lateral stability. They allow him to properly transfer his weight compared to the ZITs. "Your results may vary." And that's ok.

C'mon, man. That doesn't even pass the sniff test.

Let's just go back to since the restart.

Koepka in ZIT:

Charles Schwab Challenge - T32

RBC Heritage - 7

Workday Charity Open - MC

Memorial - T62Koepka in TP:

3M Open - MC

FedEx St. Jude - Currently 4th

Considering that the Memorial is one of the best fields (on a really difficult setup this year) and he is the defending champ at the St. Jude, I would hardly say that the data points to any "advantage" of TP over ZIT. Certainly possible he likes the TP better because he's still trying to get over his knee injury or just because of personal preference but to try to use the results to support a playing advantage is a little bit silly.

Koepka basically goes through the motions during regular tour events. Just scroll through his OWGR page and you can see that. Compared to many of the other top golfers, he’s not as consistent. He absolutely brings it at majors and other events like the playoffs/WGCs. Koepka getting his shit together the week before a major? Who would’ve guessed!?!?

Embarassing is a bit strong of a word there. I would imagine they’re reworking a shoe for him to make the needed adjustments. It’s happened with LeBron before. It happens. “Embarrassing” is a bit ?

the ZIT sells out immediately with or without him wearing it. Soooooo not sure they really care as long as there’s a chance he’s smiling holding a big ass trophy or wearing a green coat while the swoosh is prominently displayed in his hat and chest.

As for his Nike deal...he signed in 2016 before he broke out and started winning majors. I’d imagine Nike is pretty happy with the ROI of his deal.

Perhaps. Let's see what happens for the next few tournaments. Let's see which shoe he thinks gives him the better chance to win the PGA, US Open, and the Masters.

So he wears the ZITs while "going through the motions," but switches to the TPs as he gets closer to the majors.

That kind of makes my point, doesn't it? For him, the TPs work better than the ZITs, which is why he'll wear them during the majors.

From Nike's original press release:

"The idea started back in November 2017 when Nike was asked by Koepka to make a running shoe that he could play golf in. Challenge accepted. The prompt generated by Koepka — who has one of the fastest swing speeds at up to 128 mph — quickly put Nike Golf designers to work on how to blend the comfort and style of a running shoe while enabling one of the best golfers in the world to generate as much power as possible from the ground.

“Golfers look at their clubs and golf balls as pieces of equipment, but never really their footwear,” says Matt Plumb, Nike Golf Product Line Manager. "Brooks was instrumental in the Air Zoom Infinity Tour iterative process, helping us get to the point where we can now help golfers look at their footwear as part of their equipment on the course.""

I guess Brooks looked at his footwear as equipment and decided the TPs were better equipment for him. Nike doesn't make TPs anymore, so Brooks wearing them does absolutely nothing to help their shoe sales.

So you're correct. It's not embarrassment. It's probably more like anger that Nike feels.

Well I’m going back to my react vapor 2’s as well. Although they are the comfiest shoe I’ve worn I will agree the lateral stability isn’t as good and the plastic spikes don’t grip as well as Nike claims. That’s just my opinion though before someone decides to tell me I’m an idiot. Also if I wear a 9 in the ZITs what size should I look at for the TPs?

Played this afternoon at Callaway Gardens (used to host the Buick Challenge PGA event back in the day). Left the ZITs in the car. Went with the React Vapor 2's. Shot even par 72. 12 fairways. 14 greens. But 32 putts (can't blame bad putting on shoes, though.).

It's nice to wear comfortable, stable shoes that don't cost me shots. Fortunately, I bought my ZITs from NDC, so I'll return them and maybe get another pair of the React Vapor 2's. I'd like to try out the Roshe Tours, but can't find them in Wide. The regular ones were too narrow.
