Just happened yesterday. Our par 3 6th hole has a drain issue and is currently dry pending some work this week. There are thousands of golf balls stuck in the mud. I skull the ball right where the water should be, but there is no water, and my ball must have hit the top of another ball, because it pops over the wall and rolls right toward the hole. Got stuck in the fringe but was close to being, really really close. Went from a guaranteed 5 to a tap in par.

Funny what we perceive and take for granted as lucky / unlucky breaks. Few years ago I was playing a round with my Uncle. Second hole we ended up getting behind a cart with a handicap flag near the green. As we approached closer, I witnessed a disfigured fellow who basically had no functional legs heaving himself over to the green to putt making strides on his arms and hands. The fellow was my age, playing alone and he effort to play this great game was truly inspirational.

Unlucky break, he waived us thru. I wish I had been wise enough in the moment to ask to join him so I could have gotten to know him and take a lesson on mental toughness.

Lucky break, my Uncle explained the fellow is a regular so there’s a good chance our paths will cross again someday so I can respond differently.

Par 5, reachable, duff the 4 iron second, leaving a pretty tricky(for me) 40 yd flop with almost no green to work with.

I proceed to thin bullet that mutha like nobodies business, ball ramps off the greenside bunker straight into the flagstick. Flag wraps the ball gently and drops it straight down into the hole for only my second eagle of the season.

I love golf.

Probably 20 years ago at a work outing, going for the green in 2 on a par 5, pond short right of the green. Pushed my 3 iron into the middle of the pond only to surprisingly see it bounce high left on to the right side of the fairway. Couldn't believe my eyes! Walked up to my ball to find a scuba diver cleaning balls out of the pond. He told me my ball hit him when he resurfaced. Thankfully, he said he barely felt it through his equipment. Wish I could say I chipped in for eagle or made birdie, still made bogey from 30 yards out...

Couple weekends ago I had a pitch off a really nasty lie front left of the green, with a creek back right. I hit it the way I'd wanted but the ball came out of that lie WAY hotter than I expected -- it was definitely headed into the water. But it hit the top of the flagpole and bounced straight down, landed maybe 6 or 8 feet from the hole. Made the putt for par when I should've been looking at a disaster.

I'm hitting a PW on a par 3 to a green that's pretty much an "island", surrounded by green-tipped stakes. For the most part you have to either hit the green or re-tee.

Well I don't hit the green, in fact I semi-shank the shot so far right it's past the hazard area on the right, hits the cart path, and lands on the fringe of the green for an adjacent hole. So now instead of re-teeing and hitting 3, I'm hitting 2 a much shorter distance from the fringe of the adjacent hole. I hit it pretty close on the next shot... then miss my par putt (too bad).

Was in a greenside bunker for what should have been a straight forward bunker shot, but I am terrible at bunker shots. Made a swing, completely missed the sand behind the ball, and made direct contact with the ball but super thin. The ball should have gone like 30 yards past the green, but instead it hit the lip of the bunker, went straight up in the air off the lip and ended up like 5 feet from the hole.
