Completely agree that it’s easy to get wrapped up in a single OEM... Especially if you are having success with the first part of your bag that you put into play with said brand.

I used to think continuity in the bag was somewhat important until I saw Langer’s bag and learned that each of his unique clubs has a distinct purpose. Approaching my bag with that mindset has been a revelation. Now I have a mixed set of irons with different brands, long irons single length Cobra’s, short irons PING iBlades. I’ve got Taylormade and PING wedges. PING and Taylormade woods.

If there’s a single club, regardless of brand, that will do what I want to it to do better than what’s in my bag, I’ll put it in. Same thing with shafts. I play a high spin shaft in my lob wedge compared to Dynamic Gold in everything else, because I don’t take full swings with my 60 and want it to spin as much as possible on specialty shots around the green.

Free up your minds people and take full advantage of equipment!

My bag has multiple manufacturers, TM driver, Adams hybrids, Cleveland irons and 56°, 60° from warrior, knight putter, and so many golf balls. I buy my clubs at 2nd swing mostly, and I found that some brands just don't agree with me. Budget also plays a large part too.

I have had bias in the past and now I play what’s best for me; especially with modern technology these days.

For example, I don’t even like the looks of my Ping i210 irons and G410 2 iron but they work every time. How can you deny?

My biggest takeaway is learning what shafts works for me because from there, it’s apples to apples to comparison.

If this was fantasy sponsorship, I would choose Callaway as one brand to sport.

With that said, so:

I think what I’m trying to be loyal to is the idea of equipment that fits for me. If it is the same brand, so be it. But with variables like shafts and balls, I’m thinking it is more likely to find my best fit with various brands vs. the same continuous line.

I have an all Callaway bag but don’t do it for any OCD reason. In fact I would like to build a new mixed bag of things I like.

To me the challenge and benefit is that most mfgs make so much stuff now that you could easily be fit with any mfg.

Take Titleist for example...

4 drivers to choose from with different shapes and spin profiles in TS 1-4. Irons you’ve got MB, CB, T100, T100s, T200, T300, TMB plus multiple hybrids and utility irons to choose from.

If you know EXACTLY the style club you prefer you could test everyone but man who can realistically hit everything? Everyone is copying each other and making clubs to fit every niche so just pick what you like and go.

I have nothing against people that like doing a one brand bag, I myself personally prefer using clubs that work best for me and it would be rare to end up with a one brand bag that way. I really like Ping and they have a heavy presence in my bag but I don't get along with their irons. Kinda the same with every other brand, there will always be that one area with equipment that is sub par for me performance wise compared to others I've tested.

Besides the low likelihood of one brand being the best for you across the board performance wise, playing different brands allows you an excuse to buy as many clubs as possible to try, all in the name of improvement. Seems like a convenient excuse to club ho to me

My first real set of clubs were the Hogan Edge forged irons, some TM woods, and a Lynx wedge. I fell into the deal with the Hogans and pieced together the rest. When I worked at a club I met a touring pro friend who was under contract with Tommy Armour and he sent me 1-W 845s with an embroidered staff bag. I didn't like the wedges and went with Cleveland 588s, a TM driver and 3 wood and an Odyssey putter. I then gravitated to Callaway woods and went through a several year run and replaced the 845s with Titleist 735s and early model Vokeys. Then came the Adams hybrid and new Cally woods. Bottom line is that I never really thought of an all OEM line-up as I am particular to looks, feel, set up, and what works for me, plus the OEMs I started with clearly did not have best of breed depth throughout their offerings. I am finally settled on Cobra F9 driver and fairway, Adams 2h, AP2s, SM7s and a Scotty in a Titleist bag and I really solidified my preferences in what I like and don't like.
During all that time I tried a lot of equipment and for me to look at the Cobra F9 was a big step because of my Cally bias only in the woods department. So I get it. Cheers to the fan boys, the all oems, the mixed baggers, and the Langers. We all have a place in this game.
Now if you see a guy pull up with a ratty old mid Titleist staff bag with a missing headcover on his beat up TM 3 wood, his mbs that look like they have been through a war, one vokey and one tm wedge and a 2 ball Odyssey putter do not double down on that guy. He is going to clean your clock.
