52*/58* Wedge Guys: What bounce/grind combo do you use?

Thinking of dropping a wedge and going to a 52/58 wedge setup. Wondering what type of bounce and grind combinations everyone is using with this gapping

I don't use this combo any longer but when I did for 15 years or so it was 58/12 and 53/9. The 58 is gonna be your primary sand club and you've got to have some bounce for the sand.

I don’t use this setup, but check out the 58 k grind from vokey with the wider sole... it’s become my default wedge around the greens.

think they’re both 10 degrees of bounce.

PM grind is so versatile, I don’t have to use the 52 much for around the green shots.

SM7 52 F grind (8*)

SM7 58 M grind (8*)

52 is used primarily as a full swing gap wedge. Will use around the green with a square face for chips that release a bit.

58 is used for full swing if I have 80 yds. Otherwise it's my greenside bunker club and used as my main short game option. Bounce and grind allows it to be used square or as open as I need it, so versatile.

I concur with what @nitram stated above.
I played this setup for years. PW, 52* and 58*.
58* was high bounce (12*) for sand and was my primary option around the green
52 had 8* of bounce, I'd switch to this on tighter lies.

My 52 and 58 are Cleveland CBX2 so there's only one option (unless I wanted to order different lofts and have them bent to 52 and 58). It's a V-sole with no heel/toe relief on the 52 and a C-sole (both heel and toe relief) on the 58. Both with a medium amount of bounce. I use them as the full-swing extensions of my iron set so the soles being pretty basic medium-bounce work fine. I'm a short hitter so my distances are 46deg PW just over 100, 52deg is 85 and 58 is 70 yards.

I also have a CBX Full Face wedge which is my specialty club for open face, partial swings, routine bunker shots and so forth around the green. I find it's working well to simplify and just have that one highest-loft club for all the shots that take some practice and finesse. I don't practice enough to get good with specialty shots using two or three different wedges.

I use 9 degree standard bounce in 52, 11 degree standard bounce in 58.

I don't like to use less than 10 due the 58, but too wide and I can't open it up. Most standard grinds work best for me.

When I have this set up in the back, its generally a 52/8 and 58/10 or 12 (one of each with different grinds).

I used to use this set up and had vokey’s 52.08F and 58.10S. I like the S grind a lot, I play most shots with a square face and manipulate the loft with my hands, and I find the S good from the sand and has trailing edge relief so the face can be opened up some if you need. If you like to manipulate the face a lot the M grind is probably better for you though

53 D-Grind (54 bent strong). This has 12 degrees of bounce, which is helpful from soft lies, full approach shots, bunkers.

58 M-Grind. This has 8 degrees of bounce -- enough for most bunkers (the ones I play are generally firm), but low enough bounce for nippy chips and open-faced shots.

I don't carry a gap wedge. There is a full-swing yardage gap of 20 yards between PW and 53, but I have no problem dialing-down my PW when I need to. In fact, I prefer hitting 3/4 and 1/2 shots with it.

I’ve been trying to work on this set up, I’ll share a few thoughts.

first, for me, I prefer my PW to be a specialty wedge and not a set wedge. My ideal setup is 47.5*, 53,59.5*. with the 47.5 and 53, I’m always playing straight faced shots. It’s a Vokey 52/8 bent to 53/9. The 59.5 has to be super versatile. Im not a super golfer, but one thing I don’t need is a lot of bounce in the bunkers. I play a 60/4 bend a bit strong.

the Caveat. The setup works here in Connecticut. My home course is a lovely country club course, but unfortunately doesn’t test a wide variety of long clubs. I have, on multiple occasions, hit 16 drivers. There are only 2 par 5’s. One is 505 yards with a helping wind and one is 575, uphill, into prevailing wind, a 3 shot hole. I’ll be golfing a bit more in fl this winter and I’m eager to see how this setup plays there. I would certainly see the benefit of carrying the extra club down there.

I play on a links course with firm fairways with tight lies. I have Vokey SM5's 52/08 bent to 53/09 and 58/08. (M Grind??)
