Sunday was much more eventful.  We play a short course with a lot of trees.  Not a forest so you can play out of them, but enough to be super annoying when a guy is off line.  Again it was noted the Falcon wasn't with me.  I was in the trees all day.  And delightfully short off the tee as well since trees are known for stopping balls short.  I made the turn 3 over and was hitting low cuts and hooks around the foliage to get into position for a short chip which invariably wasn't as tight as intended.  When I did hit the green on the front, it wasn't tight.  The 5' fairway wood out of the timber to 30' from 210 yards portended for a better back.

Taking my positive vibes of only being 3 over having hit most every part of the planet was the launch pad to better golf... OK that is a lie.  The 245 yard driver of the deck with about 20 yards of cut to the apron of the green was a stroke saver.  The hole measures about 335 yards.  Lots of guys don't play that type of hole driver, driver, wedge, but sometimes I like to surprise myself.

Anyway, I rolled in even for the back for a 3 over.

Given the cuts and draws, the course runs 6450, the actual amount of ball travel was more like 7000 yards.

I do like my new putter, I like my new chipping stroke, I do not like my new driver swing.  I might be the worst driver of the golf ball in the world.  But what the heck, it makes me laugh.

I wanted to relay all of this to my better half, and she said, "I couldn't care less."  So here you are.

 

 

Once again our resident Knight of the Pen knocks one out of the park. That recap rocked.  I ask, " How fortunate are we to  have this dude who rep's moose country hanging out here? "

I know it I am not much when it comes to all things golf. I know I am not in any way an expert at viewing, dissecting or even playing the game this thread loves so much. I know I am not a fan of the electric lettuce. I know I am not one with immaculate stories that "remind of the old days". I know that am though a big NFL/NHL and seeing this retirement video from Alex Smith gave me chills. Yes I am a WFT fan. Yes I am in the minority in thinking he was a valued pick up in a trade with the Chiefs 3 years back. Constantly criticized for being a "game manager"  and never putting up major superstar numbers like QB's before, during and after him. At the end of the day when the dust finally settles Alex Smith was a champion in my book. Not only was a decent human being, something that seems to be lost in this day in age, but some one who gave hope to the hopeless. I know am I am a WFT fan. I know I am an NFL fan. Ultimately though, I am a fan of betting the odds, especially when the odds are stacked against you. Thank you Alex Smith. Thank you for the hope you brought in to Washington in what deemed like a franchise fit to always fail. Thank you commish for allowing me to par take in this brotherhood. Thank you all for the wonderful gags and gestures

Well, the tour bus moves into New Orleans.  I suspect this will be the one city I have always wanted to visit yet never did.  It is like #50 on my list, so I will have to eat my gumbo somewhere else and pour on the Zatarains dreaming of bright colored beads.  That is always a weird tradition to earn the beads, and not one I think I would partake in, but who knows, when in rome do as the romans do.

 

I don't think many of the players will be sporting beads, but if I had my guess, it would look like this.

Oosthuizen (yes)/ Schwartzl (no).  Louis doesn't even really like golf.  He just wants to ride his tractor.  A tractor driver totally flashes the skin for beads.

Schauffele (yes)/ Cantlay (no).  Schaufele works out and why wouldn't he flash someone.  He also seems pretty relaxed about the goings on.  Cantlay, maybe he would surprise me, but he is so out of the spotlight I wouldn't know him if he kicked me in the junk.

Brendan Todd (I hope not, so no)/  Chris Kirk (no).  Something about this pair just seems to yell "Don't be square, be aware."  Safety is no accident for the pair and I see amazing things in their future.  I have no idea who either of them are, but they are my dark horse this weekend.

 

I hope everyone has a good week.  Word on the street is it is 420 day.  An archaic reference to a police code for possession of a class A drug.  I do not partake, but in the grand scheme of things, I think it is safer than alcohol.  What's the joke?  "Whats the difference between 5 drunk guys and 5 stoned guys.  The drunk guys fight and the stoned guys form a band."

My round recap from yesterday:

70 and breezy

Walked (with push cart) solo among other groups on a busy and slow afternoon (4:10 round).  No one let me through but I had nowhere to go even if they did.

Shot 95 (48-47) with 5 pars

8-14 fwys hit, 35 putts 

Played a course in Durham not far from Duke but not to be confused with the Duke course.  Greens fine, fairways beginning to dry. Balls landed and dust flew.  Some tight lies were found.  $18 to walk after 2PM.
