I just watched Zhang and Ruffles on YT in the Amateur finals. Wow - two good golfers. Zhang's wedge play is first class. Reminded me of Lydia Ko at her young peak.

Lydia's short games when she's 15-16 was unprecedented, she's more than awesome.

Rose seems to have an all around game; reasonably long off the tee, precision approach shots and great around the greens.

The news segment mentioned that this is Hinako's first tournament of 2020. That's incorrect. She missed the cut in Scotland and at the Women's Open. I believe she's also played several events on the JPLGA. 

 

Lexi's putting stroke looks very good. 

 

Curious why the Rolex First Time Winners segment excluded Sophia. Non member?

Brooke just made a great point, Brit had the yardages done by the time she walked to the ball, sounds like it would speed up things too.

Well the big names of the morning round did their part, hope the ones in the afternoon follow suit, it could turn into a great event and you'll have probably many more eyeballs watching this week.

Does she have health issues? She's always been rather overweight, though that doesn't mean unfit in itself.

Two Canadian girls like fish out of water when it  comes to playing in triple digit (40's°) temperatures!  Though, Brooke is T1!!

I get the impression that she is focusing more on course management than she is on swing thoughts -- and if that is correct, then that is good for her because she will be thinking scoring.  With the warmer temperatures, and the drier air than in March, I think driving won't be a factor at all for her and she will get lots of roll out and carry this year (more so than usual) and that will put her into better scoring positions. 

 

This course, though, really favours the long hitters so I suspect @Stooch has a good pick in Lexi.

 

She's solo No.1 after 11 ... we will see if she can keep it up!  I won't be surprised if she builds on this over the next three rounds ... assuming she finishes in solo #1??

So nice to see In Gee at the top of the leaderboard. It's odd to see her without her Ping bag, though. She only averaged 234 yds off the tee today, but hitting 12/14 fairways is so important.

I've seen Rose Zheng on the range a lot, starting when she was maybe 11 or 12 years old.  Maybe a little younger.  She hits everything well.  Very good swing.  Very consistent.  She played well in this tourney before (2 years ago?), so she's familiar with things.  Wouldn't surprise me to see her do well.  She's -1 after round 1...

Nelly is looking really good. It's going to be a tight tournament. 

 

The rough is obviously quite punishing, but the lack of wind we usually see in the spring is allowing the players to hit a lot more fairways than usual.

Yeah, with the quality of the leaderboard, nobody can have that average round and still have a chance.  You'll probably have to be at 10-12 under by the end of the 3rd round to have a legitimate shot on Sunday
