She's solo No.1 after 11 ... we will see if she can keep it up!  I won't be surprised if she builds on this over the next three rounds ... assuming she finishes in solo #1??

If I say I'm not going to say anything so as to not jinx anything, have I still said something that will incur the wrath of the golf gods...?

Sung Hyun Park is scoring quite well so looks like she will be in contention this season.

Quite a lot of ups and downs - In Gee, Brooke and Lydia up, Ariya and Jessica down. SYK, DK and Nelly are staying pretty constant so far.

I think Nelly and Brooke are most at risk for the top of the leaderboard to have a drop, neither has cracked the top 10 in this event both struggle to not have the over par round over the course of 4 days and the 1 time both didn't have an over par round during the 4 days both finished outside the top 10.  Then again it's always a case of "it is till it isn't" and both could finish 1-2 by the end of the event lol

Like your anti-jinx writing for Brooke!

I'm cautiously optimistic about Brooke this week but also realistic.  Her back nine yesterday I noticed a significant change, which could bode very well.  Her front 9 she was putting very defensively but then switched to very aggressive on the back and sure on her 1st of the back she riffled the putt 8 feet by and made bogey but she stayed aggressive on the greens and made 4 birdies on her last 8 holes and probably could have had 2 more that burned the edges, when Brooke is putting aggressively is when she shoots the low scores even if it sometimes exposes bad speed control.  The last 4 rounds Brooke's ballstriking has been amazing and that's the foundation of her game, with great ballstriking everything tends to sort it's self out in short order.  The bad part though is also in the last 3 rounds Brooke has made 3 bogeys and all 3 have been 3-putts, not the streak you really wanna start lol.  Today will be telling for Brooke is she gonna revert to the mean of the last 2 events or did she find something that clicked and she can take off, only time will tell.

Speaking of jinxes and scores, if anyone sees a large plume of smoke over El Paso that's just me burning a pile of ProV1's to placate the golf gods.  Either that or I have been "smited" by them due to my hubris...

Wouldn't it be better to dump some into the various ponds and water features on your golf course so as to curry favour that way?  Seems a little more direct to me!  ?

Ponds?  Water features?  In El Paso?  What are these things you speak of?  Tell me more, I am curious... ?

At any rate, seems to have staved them off, back at -1 for the day so far...

I suspected that might be the case ... I was going to add to my post -- "...if such features exist in West Texas"  I gather it is as dry as the old westerns make it look?  Like Tombstone dry!

Actually not too bad, I exaggerated only a little.  There's a few courses with ponds on them but they are mostly not hazard features, just for aesthetics.  My preferred course has a pond on the par 5 18th which makes for a risk/reward shot every once in a while.

I'm loving this leaderboard, not because of a certain someone on it but because the scoring seems pretty tight.  Looks to be anyone's trophy at this point.  Plenty to play of course but I love when there is no obvious runaway.

Bunkering can help create risk/reward types of shoots ... but it just is not as aesthetically pleasing as water features might be.    So I gather they use water towers or something similar for irrigation purposes?  Or do many of the courses let the grass die out for the summer season?

I  remember reading something from Lee Trevino years ago, talking about life in Texas as a player and the sun baked dirt and dust.  It conjured up images of tumbleweeds rolling by too!

I wonder if the +2 cut will hold?  With it being a million degrees out there and it playing firm and fast, it might creep higher.

OK, I'm confused. I was certain that In Gee switched to Cleveland/Srixon, but she still has a Ping bag. ?

She's definitely still playing i210 irons. Gotta keep an eye out for her driver. I spoke with her coach last year, and they were definitely not happy with the G410 driver she was playing. Way too much spin resulting in little rollout.

Why put the giant backstop on an island green?

Tradition I guess. For 15+ years they've had grandstands behind the green, allowing for a bit of drama with the players going for the green in two. With a penalty area behind the green, I'd say 95% of the players would lay up if there was no backstop.

That’s overweight. Do you think Christina Kim is skinny?

To be fair, Christina has dropped a LOT of weight.

I noticed the same with Brooke, she was a sniper with her i200 series irons when she first came on tour and there was a big adjustment when she switched to the i400 series.  IMO she's still no where near as consistent with them as she was with the i200 series
