driving iron shaft 95g to match c taper light x stiff

hi all

 

just bought a srixon zx 18* driving iron. great club stock recoil95g stiff was to soft. im thinking of either tipping it or trying something different.

 

i have a 85g stiff matrix black tie m4 in it which is much better but to light.

 

driver and 3 wood are ad tp 6 and 7 stiff.

 

something which will fit c taper lite profile please

or KBS Proto hybrid 85g/95 Stiff (they also make a S+)

It's true there is no standard to flex so anything can happen but it isn't really surprising that the recoil stiff is softer then the c-taper lite x-stiff.    I'd try either the steelfiber i95 stiff or go up to x-stiff in the recoil 95 depending on how much stiffer you want it to be.

 

FWIW, I wouldn't tip the current shaft.  you might be able to get away with 1/2" but that's not a very big change.

the c taper lite is soft stepped once and to me play about standard dynamic gold 120g stiff

I’ve been searching myself for a 85-95 gram shaft for a driving iron as well. 
 

My buddy has ditched his 3+4 iron and went with hybrids. He plays his irons 1/2 over and told me I could have his 1/2” over 3 iron shaft in a trade. It’s a PX Catalyst 80 6.0 and he plays PX 6.0 steel in his 5-PW. He said the Catalyst is like a lighter, higher trajectory PX. 
 

I don’t know how C-Taper lite compares to PX, but they relatives of sorts.  Maybe the Catalyst 80 or Catalyst 100 may work for you ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

what 3 wood or driver shafts are similar to c taper?

 

i get driver is different to irons but good place to start

I'm getting ready to install an evenflow white 100hy 6.0 in my tp udi. Has a c taper lite currently. 

 

They can be found for pretty cheap.

In my original post, I missed the fact that this thread was resurrected after 2 years, and new OP was asking for wood shafts similar to c-taper, rather than DI shafts similar to the c-taper lite.

 

In looking at EI profiles, you'll want something that's a bit softer in the butt with a firm/stable tip.  I was under the impression that the PX Hzrdus Smoke Black might profile similarly to C-Taper Lite, while HZRDUS Smoke Black RDX might be closer to the C-Taper; however, you might not want to casually assume that whatever works in the irons will also work in the woods.

 

Coincidentally, (per the original topic of the thread), if anyone else like me happens upon this topic looking for insights on driving iron shafts, I'm in the process of throwing an old Diamana Thump hybrid shaft in a ZX4, and the early returns are very favorable.

C-Taper lite TT are 100g, Parallel are 115g.  You might have to look at hybrid shafts; which is what I have in my current 17' 2 iron, Tensei AV Raw White Hybrid 95-S; 91g actual but HIGH bend and swing weight at D1, so feels slightly heavier than its weight.  Works nicely, too.
