TSI3 vs Epic Speed TD LS

Figured I’d toss this in here for those interested in a quick review.

Had a chance to hit about 25 balls each today on the TrackMan. First off the shapes are very similar, though I feel the Callaway has a deeper face.

Driver 1: TSI3 w/ HZRDUS Smoke Green

Saw an average of 285 carry with 2900-3400 spin depending on where I made contact. Swing speed and ball speed were very similar overall to the Callaway head. Photo 1 is the Titleist average shot.

Driver 2: Epic Speed TD LS w/ stock Aldila Rogue White

This driver was a breathe of fresh air compared my last few drivers. The speed keep up across the face, high toe misses were way less than the Titleist. Saw a carry of 287 on average with low 2100-2600 spin. This thing was hot and had incredible feedback overall.

Overall: both are great drivers but when it comes down to dispersion and consistency, I’m choosing the Callaway. This was the ideal driver for me, even in the stock shaft. I would expect to tighten up my dispersion a bit when I throw in my new GD shaft but for now the stock shaft was a performer.

@tnrts345 What kind of shot shape were you seeing from the Epic TD LS vs the TSi3?  I usually see a baby cut with my TSi3 but that can turn into a big right miss if I’m not really focused.  Looking for something a bit easier to work right to left.

My spin with the TSi3 is typically in the 2100-2500 range strike dependent.  If your seeing such a large drop in spin with the TD LS, I might have to consider the regular TD vs the TD LS.

I found the TSI3 was somewhat all over the place for me. Standard shot shape is a slight fade but I find myself with a massive toe hook miss.

Epic TD LS saw some misses left but I think the lack of spin really toned it down. I saw a nice butter cut nearly 90% of the time with a nice amount of roll out.

I'd argue the spin was just because of shot shape. I find Callaway drivers way easier to draw than anything else. No idea why. Your speed and ball speed are similar to mine (yours higher by a couple MPH respectively) and super expensive driver aside you are leaving a ton of yards on the table. I know lots of tour players hit down on it but if you just got your AoA to like 3 up you'd be 20 yards further with a less expensive stick.. Just a thought.

Appreciate the feedback but I’m fine with where my swing is at. Tried to go positive last year but I could not control the club head as well. I hear it all the time from playing partners who are good sticks but I’m pretty happy with the results from today.

I have always found the titleists tough for me to turn over. I have tried for years to love them.

These can be ordered direct from Callaway now at the same price as any other retail Epic model, nothing expensive about it.

I dropped Discount Dans an email for a quote and their price made this a no brainer, already placed my order!

Purchased mine right at retail as well, was actually very happy about the availability of these as well.

I get that completely. I’m just saying they’re not cheap. I know this is an equipment forum but OP literally has 20-30 yards of carry just sitting there waiting for him.

I’m absolutely leaving yards on the table but on course I can get down to -1 and hit some monsters. Haven’t really needed the 320 carry on my travels. It’s pretty awesome to see but I like where this data has me on the TD.

Absolutely! I just hit the TSi3 vs my Mav SZ at our Titliest fitting day. I really liked the feel but there was certainly a right miss in there. We did land on a nice combo with the Raw White and the weight in the heel. This is very similar to the TS3 setup I gamed for a year and got on really well with.

My buddy is a mini tour player up here in Canada and lent me his TSi3 with Ventus Black 6x which I took out on course. I liked it and generally hit a little fade with it. I did have a couple of very hard left misses though. Generally speaking, I just really get on well with Callaway drivers. I'm not super handsy and I really like that they're easier to turn over. My flights would like identical to what you posted. I played a Sim last year for a while and having a driver with the right miss in it is so off putting for me.

I spent the entire season last year with the OG Sim and was really hit or miss. Got fit for the TSI3 and loved the initial few months of playing. I had some issues getting comfortable early on but I have always been more of a Callaway player as well. Overall I found the Epic line has been right for me, I always resort back.

Epic Speed TD LS has been a upgrade to my Epic SZ 440 from a few years back. I may not being tweaking my bag for a while but hey we’re all going to try and get more out of our clubs.

I'm pretty interested in the ES TD coming from Mav SZ but I just don't find there is a forgiveness issue. I don't generally miss middle it's just face to path misses for me so that might be part of it. The TD LS seems like it might be a good fit for me though. I just need to find out somewhere to hit them.

Had a chance at a local fitter but there are guys on social media saying they have a head or two to test out. I’m sure they’ll make it on the Callaway Pre-Owned site next season. They have all of the tour option mavriks on there now… 440 included

A couple of weeks ago I did a fitting knowing that potentially a ES TD head might be what I need.  During the fitting I never felt I was swinging as fast I usually do - most swings were around 110mph (I was pretty sore from working out the day before).  But I did put good swings on the ball so I did feel the fit was beneficial.

Here's my gamer - TSi3 9*, Ventus Black 6x - tipped .5" and plays 45.5".  As you can see below even while I've got a positive AoA I still generate a ton of spin due to my fade shape and negative club path angle (currently working to get it more neutral):

Where we ended wasn't a surprise with the head - the ES TD LS worked best for me.  The biggest surprise was pairing it up with the Hulk TX shaft.  Never had the chance to hit this shaft before and was surprised how much feel it had (previously thought it would be too boardy for me):

Needless to say I pulled the trigger and now waiting patiently for the driver to arrive.

Had a chance to play a few rounds now with the Graphite Design XC installed. I’ve been seeing some gains in terms of total yardage and shot shaping back to neutral.

Had a few monsters yesterday that came off the face like a rocket. When I had positive AoA I hit controlled bombs, but even my misses (usually thin/low on the face) went about 300-310 with ease. Safe to say that this head has great potential long term.

I don’t get the point of the Speed TD LS. The TD is supposed to spin more than the Speed (which I was unaware of) so why make something spin more than spin less?? Are there other differences? From everything I’ve seen the Speed doesn’t spin that much less than the TD so there can’t be much room to squeeze another spin model in between the two.

Everything that I have seen & tested in regards to the speed line would say otherwise. The Speed is the most spin, TD a step and the the TD LS is the lowest of the all. I saw similar spin to my TSI3 with the stock speed head, regular TD was ~300 rpm lower and the TD LS has gotten me down in the sweet spot for me.

Not a club for everyone but I think your info is off based on results and press releases out there.

Speed TD, per Johnny Wunder, is supposed to spin more than standard Speed. Obviously your results may vary.

Combining the 2 charts released by Callaway, looks like spin goes from highest to lowest - Max, Speed, Max LS, Speed TD, Speed TD LS.

Also only the Speed and Speed TD have the “Cyclonic Aero Shape” while the Max, Max LS, and Speed TD LS do not.

Epic LS spun too low for me. Launch conditions just didn’t work out, but I did like the feel and shot shapes it produced. Both that and the TSI3 seemed to be better for my heel strike miss than the SIM2, which would just start right and go further right. Maybe it was the lighter SIM2 head? Regardless, I ended up in TSI3 and the epic was in 2nd place for me. TSI3 at 10 degree with weight in the heel was launching at 13-13.5 and spinning around 2200-2300.. pretty perfect for me. All these drivers are great, just have to find what fits your misses.

I switched from the TSi3 to the Max LS.  It's a little longer and quite a bit more forgiving for me.  I also find it to be more fade-based than the TSi3, which is my preference.  I don't hit the ball consistently in the middle of the club face enough to play any of the TD models.
