Just built a G410 7 wood w/70g Tensei Pro Orange at 5 wood length.  I have it at 2* strong making it more of a 6 wood!  It’s the perfect 230 club. The Tensei lowers the spin enough to keep this thing ballooning.  That’s my fear with a 7 wood.  Could get chewed up in the wind.  Shaft is crucial with a higher lofted wood (IMO)

The other build was a Sim Ti 3w 70g Ventus Red at *1.5 weak making it closer to a 4 wood to promote a higher ball flight.  That Sim Ti has a hot face!!!
Next up is a Sim 4 hybrid…still not sure about this club.  Has a bit of the left in it which I absolutely HATE.  Lol.

image.jpg

Those are some nice builds! Ventus red is on the list of shafts i'd like to test in a FW.  I have similar thoughts on the 7w shaft, so I opted for an 80g RDX black. Stability and spin control. Total experiment but I am excited. Unfortunately outdoor golf season is coming to a close here in Alberta in the next 2-3 weeks. Testing will be limited to indoor sims and a heated driving range over the winter if it doesn't arrive soon.

How do you like the 3w lofted up 1.5*?

Hoping weather stays decent for you for a bit longer!  It’s finally cooling off here in Louisiana.
VR is a killer wood shaft.  Easy to hit, easy to swing but not easy on the ole pocketbook.
3w in standard was just a little to flat for me.  Low spin bullets.  Great off the tee but not enough height in the fairway.  That xtra degree 1/2 put the ball flight in the right zone for both.  I’m not really losing much distance if any.   Before, I played 3w and 5w standard and they played very similar…I suspected I had some gapping issues at the top of the bag.  I hit 3

wood 250 and 5 wood 240.  Not ideal lol. It’s like, what’s the point??

I thought about an 80g 7 wood shaft as well.  But, I jumped on a used 70g Tensei Pro on bst.  Good deal and worth a shot.  Still wondering if 80g would be better.  We shall see.  What 7 wood head are you in?

I ordered a TSi2 21*. I will have to play around with lofting my 3W up and 5w down to see the best gapping and flight. Plenty of time during a Canada winter to get that figured out!

Hybrid = hook machine for me

4W too close to 3W and even 5W too close since my 3W is HL at 17*

For me old Callaway "Heaven Wood" -- 7W head on 4W shaft -- has filled the gap nicely

Well, the TSi2 7 wood with 80g Hzrdus Black came in and i've been able to hit it at the range a couple times and got out for one round. It just looks and feels easy to hit due to the length and high loft. So far, I am enjoying the honeymoon phase with the 7W! And a ripple effect from this experiment...the stability of the 80g shaft is making me want to switch to a 90g shaft in my 23* hybrid.

Recently won a fairway metal or hybrid and struggling to choose what to get. Currently have driver, 3W, 5W, 23* hybrid. I am tempted to try a something new in the bag like a TSi2 4W or 7W.

Other option is to upgrade the hybrid to a 24* TSi2 or a G425 26* hybrid to gap between 5i and 5W.

Is it time to experiment with a new fairway loft? And if I go 7w, so I go 70g shaft like 3W and 5W or bump up to 80g since shaft length is decreasing?

I went with the TSi2 4-16.5°, TSi1 7-20°, TSi1 23° & 26° hybrid and it all worked out great.

Callaway just dropped a utility wood that sort of marries different qualities of woods and hybrids. It looks really good and comes in moderate stock lengths. Check it out if you haven’t already.

I play a small headed 16* 4W at just under 42” length. Big proponent of shorter-than-standard length fairway woods.

Can you share a quick mini-review of the TSi1 hybrids? And what’s your ballpark swing speed? I’ve been looking for more spin with my hybrids (been struggling to hold greens a little bit) so they caught my attention, but I haven’t tried them yet — I like heavier hybrid shafts, so I’d guess I’d need to add a lot of head weight.

I would love to carry my G400 7 wood. However, it's about as useful as a chocolate fireguard on the links course I play at. Any sort of wind in my face and it's coming back at me. I bought it before I moved here to play at a parkland course. As a result I now carry 15 deg 3 wood, 18 deg 5 wood then straight to 4 iron.

Update: 7 wood back in the bag to replace 4 iron. Accept the loss of length!!

I've debated this question back and forth alot myself.    I have cobra amp cell pro woods and hybrids that over the years I have gathered up, so I have too many to use all at the same time.    So far the easiest configuration that I have found is setting up 1w at 10.5*, 3w at 16*, 5w at 20*.    At the same time I have 2H set to 16*, 3H at 20*.    I set them the same with the idea of breaking the decision down to if I felt the course would play better with woods or hybrids.    After that I go to a hybrid set to 24* then irons 5-9, 4 wedges & pt.     I tend to tinker with settings too much so hoping that keeping things simple helps!

I'm in the middle of a 7w experiment.  After driver I carry a low spin adjustable head model 3w that I have bumped up to 16 degrees (4-wood-ish) loft.  From there I was carrying 3hy (20 degrees) and 4hy (23 degrees) and loved that combo for years but lately I was second guessing the 3hy.  I had started to get it turning too far left AND wasn't consistently hitting it high enough when I wanted to attack a par 5 in 2 from 220 range when 4w was just a bit too much club.

I recently picked up an Epic Speed 7w with an 85 gram X flex Aldila Rogue shaft.  It's only been a couple of rounds so far (and no range session) but I must say that right now the results are mixed.  I've probably used it for a total of 6 shots thus far (2 from the fairway and 4 from tee boxes) where I had traditionally played the 3hy.  In one sense it's mission accomplished in that it's definitely going higher than the 3hy and carrying roughly the same which is what I wanted on equal like strikes.  The negative is it's a bit too much of what I was looking for.  Off the tee I've hit two or three MOON BALLS that are just not the flight I'm looking for.  So high they came up too short and one plugged almost sub-earth on a wet fairway.  My disappointment with the Epic Speed line is it isn't adjustable so I'm stuck at 21 degrees.  I prefer my Flash Sub Zero 3w head that I can and have adjusted.  I wish I could bump it down to 20 degrees and see if that makes any difference.  I'll give it a few more rounds and some range sessions to see if I can learn to work with it because I love the idea.  But I may also just end up looking at going back to the 3hy maybe in a different head design or maybe a 5w and bumping it up in loft to 19 degrees.  I just don't want the club to get too tight with the 4w.

I set the ball up like a 4i rather than a fairway in my stance, yet with a bit of grip down, stand over it more, and close the face slightly (though my 7w has lots of offset). Been playing a 7w longer than anything else in my bag for like 15 years now

Yeah I do but been struggling with 4wood and driver, while smashing 7wood.

thinking of dropping 4w and rapture 2iron for 17 degree hybrid, feels a bit no need carrying 17 and 18 though love the low running shots 2 iron gives me in uk summer

Ya. My logic is my 4i is a struggle and goes as far as my 5i. My 7w gaps well. A DI could help from the tee as I can get drawy with my woods off the tee

Just my .02, I replaced my DI (18*) with a Paradym 7W, I had it reshafted with the original 3W shaft (Tensei 75g stiff), tipped 1" cut to play a 41", off the tee is around 240-245, off the turf is about 230-235, it has been a game changer for me, my 3W is 42" tipped 1" as well (15* Paradym 3D), this is a cannon, off the tee about 260-265, off the turf 250s, my 4i (which I love) goes 225 off the tee and around 215 off the turf...the 7W is much more easier to hit and it just works for me, I would definitely give the 7W a chance, it truly works, that said, I am going to be a bit bias and also say the new Callaway UW is really good as well, it would be the only club that (if needed) would kick my 7W out of the bag, good luck my friend and hope you find the right combo for you, take care.
