Who has played predominantly one ball this past year?

Ive been playing the ProV1 exclusively for years now. I mean ive played a sleeve of TM or Bridgestone's here or there just to see what i thought, but for all intensive purposes ive been a ProV1 guy exclusively. Before the ProV's I played the Zstar XV for years. I am a big believer in ball consistency, they all react and feel so much different off the driver and around the green.

The Q-Star Tours are just like my wife. Reasonably priced, decent performance, pretty good looking, and Asian. 😁

Since you brought up the wife angle...

I'm going for blatant oneupsmanship!  (is that a word?)

A couple months ago, my wife told me that because the season is winding down here in Minnesota, I needed to play all three days (Friday to Sunday) of the weekends, so I can get as much golf in as I can, before I'm not able to.

Yes, my wife is awesome.  🙂

Oh, and I played the Wilson Staff Duo Professional for most of the year, before trying a dozen Vice Pro Soft, and buying Chrome Softs at the end of the year with my proshop credit from Men's Club events....

How did you like the Vice Pro Soft.  I've played just a couple rounds with it but my most recent round had a 50% GIR which is a personal best.  I attributed that to the added distance I'm getting with the Vice.  I still have a supply of e12 Contacts just in case I have a falling out with the Vice Pro Soft.

Yeah, my wife is like that too, thankfully. Sounds like you found a good one.

I must admit however, that it took a few years to get her there. She just needed to get a sense of what a miserable SOB I can be when I don't get to the golf course regularly. After a couple of years, she was begging me to play golf. 😀

It's a decent ball.  Flies a bit higher than the Duo Pro, not as good in the wind, was otherwise pretty similar.  It's possible it's a couple yards longer with irons, but that's a completely anecdotal observation; I've not had them on a launch monitor.  In fact, I haven't even compared them directly against each other on the same day.

If the Duo Pro went away, the Vice Pro Soft could be a replacement, but it wouldn't be automatic.  I've gotten spoiled by that wind performance of the Duo Pro.

Tagging @Bad9  also  🙂

In the sense of full disclosure, I should mention my wife retired (early) this summer.  With me working at home, it's probably easier for her to accept my being gone to the course as often.

That said, she's said the same thing in past years, when she was still working full time in an office.  😉

She's also commented how less than sunny I might be in January, when there's no golf and we're a couple months away at best.  LOL

edited to add:  my wife is of Irish ancestry   ☘️

The Bridgestone Tour BRX is the ball I’ve played for a few years now.  Generally stock up in the beginning of the year when they offer the buy 3 get 1 free promo.  This year I bought 9 dozen and got 12.  Still have 4 dozen left.

I use a Check Go Pro to mark all of the balls before play and a Pelz O ball guide to draw lines similar to the triple track alignment aid.

I also have a shag bag full of 5 dozen retired Tour BRX balls that I practice chipping and putting with.

The only other ball that I tried this year was the MaxFli CG Tour ball.  It is a good alternative.

Tour Edge E723 21 deg. with Diamana Thump f85 S

  • 2 weeks later...

I played the TP5X for 90% of my rounds. Tried the Bridgestone E12 Touch, nice ball, consistent around the green, but it felt too soft to me, and I had the perception it was a little short off the woods.

Tried the Bridgestone Tour B RX and XS, good balls,( I am usually right around the 105 mph swing speed they differentiate therm with) I prefer the feel of the TP5 X.

Just can't feel any love for the Pro V offerings. Inconsistent spin around the greens for me. Seem to stray a bit much on windy days compared to the TP5 X. And no, I am not a Titleist hater, I play Titleist irons.

I'll probably stick with the TP5X next season, but am always open to trying new things.
