Current Driver Shortest Back to Front

I really don’t like the trend of driver heads getting longer and longer from the face to the back. Doesn’t suit my eye or swing at all.

Any idea what the current driver that is shortest from the front to the back would be?

You will probably want to look at drivers in the 440 cc range that are also deep faced as this type of driver often has a smaller foot print.

What you want is a driver with a high face and a low and forward COG.  I don't know of any current drivers that will fit the bill most recent ones are the TM SLDR and R15 in 430ccs.  But if you want the tallest face and the shortest back to front that is 460cc is the R9 Superdeep.

This is the the issue - I’d like something that is hot and forgiving across a decent bit of the face, but is also deep without the giant slope they all rely on now. I don’t need a ton of weight at the very back of the club head.

I never did try the SLDR…might need to dig one out of the local trade in store. I’m looking for something to slot in above my Original One…so it can be a pure distance machine if need be. Doesn’t have to be the straightest driver ever. That’s what the Mini Driver is for.

It was closer to the truth but not close enough. I hit both it and the Tsi4…but neither was the modern tech + return to classic Titleist driver look I was hoping for. Right direction at least.

I miss when the 975Js and 983Ks dominated the better player bags. It was an era of seriously good looking drivers. And even more importantly - the best looking drivers were also the longest.

The Sub 70 849 Pro is worth a look. I'm really happy with it, and TXG gave it a good review.

I also hate the look of a lot of the newer drivers.

Yeah.  You're gonna be really hard pressed to find one.  The SLDR is one of the longest drivers TM ever made, but that distance comes at a price as it is the most unforgiving driver that TM ever made as its COG is so forward.  The more longer from front to back, the more forgiving it is as its COG is put further back which is why so many drivers are like that.  Either you get yourself a forgiving driver and put up with the longer front to back or get your swing in order so you can be able to hit the more unforgiving drivers you want to see at address.  .

I really appreciate this comment!

As someone who prefers beauty in their golf equipment, I realize that it comes as a trade-off to forgiveness.

My response? Get busy getting better.

TSi4 is shorter.  Its worth a try IMO, especially if you don't mind bringing down your spin a little.  Still has great feel and is surprisingly forgiving.  Great shape from address as well.

I’ll clarify a bit - I’m not looking for something that corrects big misses. I’m a good enough player that that’s not an issue. Just looking for a large enough hot area on the face. They seem to have got this tech right now. It’s the only reason I just don’t go retro. Don’t need a stability machine.

I’d frankly hit the 300 mini in a 7* if they made it…but not gonna happen.

Check out Srixon ZX5/7. Here's a pic of my ZX5, I'm sure ZX7 is a touch shorter front to back.

Titleist TSI3 or 4, Callaway Epic Speed, Srixon ZX5 are all traditionally shaped and adjustable hosel- if choose to go down JDM rabbit hole, there are quite a few bonded options (Mizuno craft type models and Crazy 435 as examples)

The ZX5 certainly has me intrigued. And I’ll investigate more of the JDM stuff as I do like the looks and would much rather have a bonded club head to be honest - struggle there is I’m a high speed high spin player…so demoing and fitting is a must to make sure it doesn’t spin the ball off the planet.

I’ll just add that the XT is the shortest front to back of the 3 Gen 4 drivers PXG offers. Other points that maybe weren’t realized is the availability of a 7.5* loft that is adjustable to +/- 1.5* and replaceable weights at the face, rear and heel.

I play mine with 15g front, 2 rear and 2 heel and will be trying a 20g over the winter.

I get the look is polarizing.  I don’t mind it at all and find the $300 price tag improves the view of it 😁

I just ordered the 7.5 with high hopes. My miss is a wiped fade but I need low loft, always had to open up 9* to get the low loft, plan on closing the face "up" to 8.5 with draw weights and playing some "no fear" cuts with it.......in theory 🙂

TSi4 is 425cc, available in 8* with adjustability down in loft, and is good at bringing down spin.
