Wilson Triad

When TXG went to Ping to try out for Ballnamatic, for Matt's 127 7 iron ball speed, the Triad was the straightest ball (least workable)

Seeing this ball show up on lots of Balnamic results. Interested to see more test results on these. Looks like it performs really well.

Am I missing something? It says "ideal workability" in the first row 🤨

Or is that a different Wilson ball?

Also it makes sense for it being the straightest since it's a high MOI design ball. It supposed to do that.

He selected that he wanted the straightest ball. So that is why the low number is optimal.

I’m not sure a ball can have higher MOI and be straighter. I interpret high ball MOI to have more of its mass density towards the cover, meaning it would maintain more of its spin throughout the flight of the ball.

I’d guess that with the iron and cover being equal, the ball with all mass density at its core would spin more on impact, and lose it quickly in flight. A ball with all mass density in its cover, the opposite… the former would curve more in initial flight, then straighten out… the later would curve more over the total flight.

the biggest impact to straightness is the cover. The more lift, the more curve and drag. I’d guess based on the limited data that Ping publishes, all the straight balls also do better in the wind.

All said, I doubt very much the MOI on the ball is measurably any different. It most likely just has deeper dimples so it doesn’t move as much in the air.

@markheardjr is in aerospace as well and probably has better insight here.

Looks like W/S will be offering Triad in yellow in the near future. Saw an Instagram hit with Manolo. He had yellow balls in his hands.

They're trying to cater to a younger audience. It seems that advertising today has absolutely nothing to do with the product being advertised. Instead of doing this Manolo nonsense why don't they get there products out into the public where people can actually test it for themselves. I am a diehard Wilson Staff fan and always will be, but there is one thing Wilson needs to do... PLEASE SEPERATE WILSON STAFF FROM WILSON. Most people think of Wilson and relate the brand to cheap clubs and balls bought at Walmart. Wilson Staff has made some great equipment over the years, the FG Tour golf balls come to mind, but very few bought it because of the "Walmart" thinking.

I'm another person who got pushed the Triad by the Balnamic tool.  (The cynic in me thinks this was some great marketing by Wilson to get their ball into the hands of people who would never try it that it's being pushed so much.)

I bought a dozen yesterday and put them in play today. I was up and down the front 9. I caught fire on the back and shot my best 9 of the year.  That included 7 GIRs in a row. And the one I missed I was 20 yards away from a in a par 5 in two and totally duffed a pitch shot.  I can't blame that on the ball.

The ball really shines on distance control with my irons and wedges.

I have a tough time figuring out what other ball I'd compare it to.  I'll play a few more rounds with it to see how it goes. But it's definitely in contention for my 2023 ball.

Interestingly, I found the Duo Pro was also incredibly straight, difficult to move.  Because I was playing it exclusively, I didn't realize how much was a product of the Duo Pro until I started playing other golfballs.  🙂

Looks like a "Wilson thing."  They're now marketing it.  <shrug>

Maybe. There is no perfect ball. Deeper dimples have lower lift and drag. Lower drags makes them good for penetrating through the wind and not curving as much. Lower lift keeps the ball from apexing as high makes the landing angle lower, making it hard to hold greens.

One thing I had to do with the Duo Pro was bump the loft on my driver, for that reason.  It flew too low and cost me distance, in comparison to the Snell MTB Black.  Once I'd bumped the loft to compensate, all was right with the universe.

It didn't cause a problem with my irons, I've always been a higher trajectory player, even as I've slowed a bit.  I wouldn't have recommended them for a lower trajectory player, for sure.

I had another round with the Triad last weekend. It's just a REALLY good all around ball. I really enjoy how it performs in every aspect of the game. I'm going to put in in play for a men's league event on the 31st.  I'm usually hesitant to throw a new ball into a stroke play round unless I'm really confident in it. But I'm there with this ball after 2 rounds.

I agree with all of this. This ball track so straight off the putter. I suck off the tee so can't honestly comment on distance but on the second shot, usually with a hybrid it rockets of the club.

I've picked up a dozen of these, giving them a shot once the 2023 season gets running.  Was a big fan of the Duo Professional, especially how stable it was in wind.
