It’s still milled, just doesn’t actually flat. Funny story, I had Jim Wells at Ping do some work on an old 85029 Anser putter I had. When I got it back, the face was smooth. So I ask him, I thought you were going to mill the face. He said it is milled, in fact it’s perfectly flat. I can leave mill marks on it if you don’t want it completely flat….

Double bend shaft also.. imo it looks a lot better then the single bend

The best and the worst. 😄 Any reason for the sharpie work? They didn't pay Patty to use it? He wants a blacked out model but they don't make one (because it's bad for business to have a model that doesn't look like sht after a few months use)?

It's pretty amazing what the double bend shaft does to a putter, the 1st modern double bend shafted putter I tested was the Ping PLD "Hovi edition" and I think I hit about 15 putt's with it and all of them felt amazing it goes through the stroke with so much ease. I wonder if Patty's model also lays toe up like the Hovi PLD?

I think the double bend flows better then the single bend as well.. the single bend just sits funny to me.

I’m pretty sure there was a post on wrx about the limited cantley superstroke grip a while back.. I don’t think it’s a sharpie job.

Mill marks affect feel - the deeper they are, the softer the feel. But that's not the feel one may want. There is a balance. Cantlay must want a very direct feel.

Yeah, had a very interesting conversation about that with Guerin Rife. Essentially the air in the grooves or milling cushions the strike leading to the softer sound and feel.

Nice, that's pretty amazing to think.. Never though about air getting trapped between the dimpled ball and the milled face.

 

Talking about Guerin Rife, IMO his Evnroll putters lack in feel because of the grooved face, for some reason the contact just doesn't feel as solid as from a Scotty with normal fine milled faces. I wonder if that also the reason they are not used on tour by almost anyone..

Yeah, it’s definitely a softer feel. I actually prefer that, but know most like more off a firmer feel. I’ve used a Rife/Evnroll putter for over 30 yrs because I’ve seen the groove technology outperform others. The biggest reason there isn’t more tour usage is that the ball just doesn’t come off the Evnroll face as fast as other putters. Most tour guys I’ve heard say they like the putter, but they leave putts short with them.  While his groove pattern definitely has some performance advantages, he can’t seem to crack the code to make the ball come off with the same speed as Cameron, Toulon, or others.

Doesn’t he play it at 33”, 10 gram weights would make it awfully light.
