New Stealth on its way?

I cannot imagine a carbon face would be very durable hitting off the deck and out of rough and other bad lies. Hybrids use Carpenter hardened steel for a reason.

I agree.  However, it would be nice to somehow incorporate it into the future generations of fairways and hybrids just to get more consistent ball speeds and spin like the driver.

Yonex had carbon faced fairway woods 30 years ago.  My Yonex Tour 3 & 5 woods held up extremely well over several seasons!

Still intact or is there any damage?

I just picked up a slightly use Stealth Plus 9* head only for $350.  I feel like I hit the lottery.  I saw a review on My Golf Spy that claims the Stealth Plus is 9 yards longer than the Sim2.

Depends upon swing speed:

If your speed is above 105 then no difference, BUT if less than 105 stealth improves over SIM2

Hate to break it to you but they design these things in bunches. A source said when they tested the stealth last december they got a peak at the next driver. It has already been made, developed. Another example is when the ltdx came out bryson let the cat out of the bag with “wait til you see next years”. I think you can just rest easy knowing driver technology has basically been maxed out for a while. The “gains” are so small in nature, you wont be missing out from year to year. 5 years… perhaps.

And this right here is why I won’t/don’t buy Taylormade. But even if other manufacturers do the same thing (design in bunches), Taylormade more-so than other OEM’s unnecessarily makes you feel like you bought an outdated product - as many have already expressed. But they do this not only by their overblown claims in tech improvement, but also - more simply -the design changes. Notice with Titleist that all their drivers look fairly similar from release to release, I bought TSi’s last year and I have zero regret/remorse about not waiting for the TSR’s. Had I bought TM Sim’s instead, I don’t know if I could say the same when the Stealth was released.

And obviously I prefer a 2 year release, but it’s really the massive design changes from release to release that puts me off of TM

I feel like this thread gets started earlier every year. I haven’t seen any prototypes on tour yet, which is usually the sign for a release. Taylormade could just be having supply chain issues.

Maybe there is a chain supply issue from having to replace all the defective faces

bought my 8* back in april, played it 3 weeks and this happened. have a feeling it was more due to range balls being rocks and hitting too close to the heel since i was so used to the sim for years (and RBZ before that)...so i could never find the center/sweet spot consistently. (and 115mph swing speed roughly) nevertheless im sticking to my sim till i hear they have at least somewhat rectified the issues on these....i did love the mishits on the toe being WAY less of a miss though, when i would rarely miss on the toe. maybe the 9* is a bit better, never tried it.

for those wondering about the increase in defects, its simple economics....you can afford a 20% defect rate vs paying a lot of money to the QC dept during production. a lot of costs are eliminated in the production line if you remove QC for your basic items. dont forget these clubs dont cost $400 to build 😉

Like many here, I was drawn to the first new release since the spring and thought I was all but sure I’d be getting a TSR driver soon. But, this weekend, I was reminded of just how much of a performer the stealth is. It’s like I fell in love with it all over again. The shape, the feel, the performance. It’s all there. I drove the ball so well. Had two really fun rounds.

Needless to say, any driver changes can wait. And, I really want to see what’s going on with the next stealth. Season is winding down soon. So I have nothing it time. Even though the wait is excruciating lol.

  • 2 weeks later...

I loved my Stealth, and raved about it to friends. Best driver I’ve ever played.

Friday I picked up a TSR2 9 degree with a credit I had.

Took it out Saturday morning, and knowing the course well was aware of a few additional yards, missed two fairways, shot 75, and have to tell them all about my new driver.

Whoops!
