Scotty Cameron Custom Shop being a pain

I had a friend send in a sole stamp Tel 3, 6 weeks later he phoned to ask where his putter was, they somehow "lost" it, heard a couple of stories of rare models being "lost"...

Anyone that considers themselves an artist gets a little pissy when you change their work. Even sushi chefs.

Sent an old SC to the custom shop back in September. They called around November as it was fairly dinged up and they would need to tack weld additional material onto the face. Received it back Jan. 20th.

It was dinged up much worse than can be seen in this picture due to years of use without a head cover (gifted it to my father). 
 

There was a slight up charge, I believe around $150. They mentioned it had to be ground down then additional material was welded on to bring it back to spec.

Wanted to send my NP2 in for some stamping, guess I’ll have to wait until March. Seeing the long turn around times looks like I’m going to have to find a backup to use.

I feel your pain lawst4days! I sent in my gamer to have a new grip put on and stamp my initials on the face, that's all. A month later I got a call that they would not work on it because the weights were not scotty authentic. I would need to purchase new weights for I think $75 or send in authentic scotty weights. He told me they would also return the non-scotty weights, just couldn't work on the putter until they had authentic ones. I mailed in my scotty weights and got the putter back another month later. wow they want to make things difficult just to prove points...I don't appreciate it. Hence my new Ping PLD - what a different perspective and approach Ping has!!

Think about it for a minute. You’re SC and someone sends you a putter with all kinds of oddities, then wants you to work on it and ship it back as your  own work, when in fact it’s not.  
 

As far as I’m concerned, it’s not a SC “problem” and what makes SC, SC.

Any precedence for the custom shop closing this long for "a winter break"? I've got two putters I want to send in for some work, a reshaft, and new grips but ran across the notice on the website. Never seen it before.

 

Here's to hoping they reopen with some new custom options.

I emailed them about getting a putter certified and this is their reply.

 

We are currently making improvements to the Custom Shop facilities to expand our capacity and increase our efficiency to get putters back to our loyal customers faster

Ha, good idea.  I have in the past put gaffer tape over the bombs on my 2012 black mist.  Honestly I like the more muted look.

There was once a thread on this site with a title along the lines of "Scotty Cameron Users- We are elite".  Unfortunately that mindset exists with some Scotty users.   Scotty users are not elite. They are not special.  Scotty is not special.  Scotty does not make special putters (despite the name Special Select).  The company makes nice putters, period.  Mannkrafted, Toulon, bettinardi, Ping, Odyssey, etc make nice putters too.  I recently talked to Lamont on the phone to ask about paint fill suggestions  (best way to harden).  He could not have been nicer and answered every question.  When I am in the market for another putter, I will not hesitate to contact him.  I am not even a customer and he treated me better than the SC Custom Shop did  (and I was a customer of theirs). I like the feel of my SC Special Select Del Mar.  So I use it.  But I have no delusions that the putter is much better than anything else out there or that I am somehow elevated because it has the Scotty Cameron branding.

I wonder about some of this too, or if they changed their approach/standards.  I sent them 2 putters this year with custom paint fill already that was ugly to me, super stroke grips and one had a cut down shaft and they worked on both of them.  The only thing that they rejected me on was removing a plumbers neck and welding on a flow neck, but they did suggest a work around which I am in the process of doing - they were helpful.  About 3-4 week turn time and the work was perfect and exactly what I wanted- they even emailed me with a question just to make sure.

 

The custom shop is the best way to get a grip or head cover without paying 3x as much for it on eBay or even on here.

Besides my reshaft to the proper length, this is exactly why I sent my new putter in to them. The shaft band + grip + headcover from the custom shop on ebay were like $400 and only $200 from SC.

 

I'm pretty sure this is how the resellers get them, anyway - sending old putters in for reshafts and no head work.

I got a new Golo 6 because I couldn't find a head a liked as much, except a PLD, and the Cameron had changeable weights ... It's easy getting a Scotty because you know the quality of head and resale value are there ... But I had it reshafted and new grip put on by my guy. I don't get the "mystique" around Scotty grips, shaft bands, headcover, ball markers, divot tools, etc.

Sent in a Super Rat I in April this year, with a custom shaft, custom grip and asked for a full restoration in a two-tone finish

 

I got it back late July and everything was perfect to say the least. They were very helpful, we did a bunch of additional things and customizations even after I had submitted the form

Unfortunately the custom shop wont refinish 2016 model putters with the inserts as they ran out of them and arent making more. They will not refinish the insert and only want to put new ones in.
