Some amateurs are turning pro, some are staying in school. Should those who turn pro and do not advance out of Q Series, play Epson Tour next season?

I would assume that’s the plan.

I didn't notice this change until today:

"2023 Status:

• Players finishing in positions 1-20 and ties earn LPGA status in Category 14.

• Players finishing in positions 21-45 and ties earn LPGA status in Category 15 and Epson Tour status in Category C."

Previously Category 14 includes Positions 1-45.

The true question is - how will this impact playing priority?  In the past if you're, say #21, you most likely still get to play full field events at an extremely high probability.  (eg Hinako was 20th if I recall right and one of the Hou sisters was 21st in 2022?)

I wonder if the new "category" changes priority drastically, eg #21 is a giant gap vs #20 relative to the past...

I don't think so.

It basically is back to Stage III before Q-Series to inform Qualifiers 21-45 that they have limited chances to play during the earlier part of the season.  Also, it is encouraging those players to take advantage of their Epson Tour playing privileges.

Depends on what category 101-125 now go in. They’d normally make up cat 15.

Another in a long list of poor decisions by the management group that runs these courses for the Alabama State Retirement Fund (RSA).  I was a full member of an RTJ Course until this month.  Chose to move elsewhere following bad decision after bad decision.  It is time for a change on the RTJ Trail.

uhh why does she have Pro status?

Once you declare yourself to be a professional, you are one until you apply for reinstatement to amateur status through the USGA. That can take one or two years, depending on the situation of the individual.

Q-Series Round 1 tee time has been posted at LPGA.com.

I couldn't find Gabriela Ruffels in the field; so it looks like she indeed is playing Women's Australian Open this week.  Also, Muni He is missing in action.

@Supermilois right, Minami Katsu is in the field; so are Yuna Nishimura and Hae Ran Ryu.  Also, Su Oh, Bianca Pagdanganan and Jennifer Song.

Glad to see they are playing RTJ Trail courses for the final. Magnolia Grove is a great course. I'm sure the ladies will play it better than I do.

Much weaker field vs last year

Hae Ran is the only KLPGA star to try her hand at qualifying which is kind of disappointing.  At least I hope to see Min Ji play in more than one major this season + staying put might be better served to hang on to that final Int'l Crown spot altho Hye Jin is lurking.

Muni He is in Thailand with Alex Albon doing humanitarian work on a Thai orphanage… (dunno how else to term it so I used humanitarian). It’s a good deed either way.

and yes, agree the field is weaker in 2022 vs 2021, relatively speaking. Just

looking at JLPGA reps 2021 vs 2022.  Though Su Oh is certainly making things interesting here😈

Should still be ultra competitive .. Ryu. Nishimura, Katsu should be in .. Yubol, Wannasean, Kuvanan, Boonchant as well .. Harm and Mack from Germany. Not too confident with many Americans in the field (no Papp?), Pano is intriguing. Uriell, Coleman, and Song should be ok and Huffer is in good form.. Szeryk finished the year strong, as well as Yaeeun... Su Oh will probably miss out but still get starts this season on the big tour. .. rooting for Karen Chung so Annie has her buddy on tour...also looks like Charlotte Thomas' "major exemption" has dried up... I think Bianca P wins Q series,  Lucy Li will win ROTY if she is eligible.

@Supermiloand I would like to see that!

Sometimes I worry that LPGA isn't aware that Q-Series is going on:

While good, it doesnt count for much to win this vs being in top 20 (in my opinion).  😈   But, fine, a win is a win, Qseries or not though as we know, it ain't just based on length/strength but also everything else, including luck...

Just like last year, the JLPGA members are getting "special" coverage in their qualification rounds through WOWOW.  So for those who have access, and wishing some coverage of their players, then you can hope your players get paired with either Yuna or Minami to see the action 😁

Other than the JLPGA pros and Vongtaveelap, I would be surprised if Su Oh fails to make the top 45.  Boonchant I'm not to sure if she'll pull through, for me, 60/40 she makes it but barely.  She finished Epson on a strong note, so that's what's going for her this week and the next...

Monday Q is a sensationalist. You really think the LPGA could change a venue a week or so prior for 100+ girls to play? Not to mention a contract was signed with RTJ over a year ago.

100% miss management by the golf course. But realistically is a tree clearing project that is happening outside of play. If a girl is hitting in those areas they're not earning a card.
