My understanding, from reading discussions at other sites, from people who claim to know, is you can.

But, your numbers on spin will be degraded.  Perhaps other metrics as well.  Like spin axis.

Those people were mentioning prices in the 750-900 range.  Which sounds really appealing.

Said the exact opposite of what meant.

Can someone point me to where there is discussion, better yet confirmation, of using balls other than the made-for callaway ones and getting the additional metrics with this unit?  The press release reads like it has 13 metrics, of which 6 require the callaway ball.

I am assuming that club path will be a calculated number if it even reports that. Any info on club path data?

The blurb at Rapsodo mentions 240 frame/s cameras in the unit.  Which honestly sounds a touch low for great numbers, but I don't know.  I didn't think it was supposed to be an inferred or calculated number, as opposed to directly measured, but I dunno.

How fast are the cameras in a Skytrak or GC Quad?

Even if it is measuring, what're the accuracy and precision of those measurements, vs TrackMan/GC Quad/"Gold Standard" LMs?  E.g., Swing Caddy 300 claims to measure spin (and I'm happy with my SC200, that doesn't) but I'd thought those numbers came with a Morton's can of salt.  Shrug.

Blimey, it was announced like 30 minutes ago. Patience.

I believe the press release is saying this device measures spin and SPIN AXIS. Really? Measuring spin axis at this price point? Wow. If accurate that would be amazing.

Read through the thread and see above discussions. Looks like some folks are getting additional info so trying to get ahead of hearsay.

Unless you know an engineer at Rapsodo the whole forum is hearsay and you can't even order it for 6 days yet, please calm down.

Dunno the actual framerate of the Skytrak cameras but it only compares two pictures at launch.

Spot on - the patent for their tech reveals that it takes two photos at 4.14millisecons apart for processing.

Sim forums have some cool research into skytrak and their image process/capture.  Summary findings are that they are not highspeed but rather CMOS sensors.  https://golfsimulatorforum.com/forum/skytrak/360729-reveal-the-secrets-of-skytrak-in-the-dark

Which works out to about a 240 frames/sec rate for those two pictures.

Neat!  TIL...

Hoping for some videos about this to come out soon from the show.

Will need to know more like what amount of space is needed behind the ball.  Also, it said the subscription is included for the first year.  What does it cost after that?

I'm skeptical when it comes to doppler radar for indoor use, but if they managed to work some magic with the Callaway balls, then I could be persuaded.  The price point is only slightly more expensive than a new Taylormade driver.

Looking forward to some comparison videos this upcoming spring.

Assuming this pans out, there is absolutely no reason for the average golfer to buy any other device. I’ve had time with FullSwingKit, Trackman, R10, and GC3. They’re all great devices but the price point is high for most golfers.

My personal favorite is the PRGR for the simplicity and I can use it for my StackSystem training but sometimes I think the numbers can be a bit off.

At $700 plus $200 per year after year 1, this is an absurd value for anybody balling on a budget who wants reliable data to keep your game sharp. Congrats Rapsodo! Can’t wait to place my pre-order.

Full press release that details what MLM2 is, what the basic unit will do and what the premium subscription entitles.

I am super intrigued and likely gonna consider this instead of buying the R10

I'm an original Mevo and R10 user( still have both with no issues compared to what my expectations are) and this does look interesting with Android support and camera integration. Flightscope software upgrades on the Mevo have been great and swing recording on both the Mevo and R10 has been pretty flawless with Samsung phones.

Good job by MLM if they can deliver as described in the press release!

Even if it's Android compatible, hard pass on marked balls for full functionality and shelling out 30% of the initial purchase price every subsequent year.

With regard to the subscription price, I sort of share your frustration.  But here is what I will say.  A) like the guy in the video said, it breaks down to the cost of a netflix subsciption per month, B) my guess is 2-3 years from now, there will be another device at a similar price point with a lower or no subsciption price whatsoever.  My guess is since this device is a notch above the R10, Garmin is taking note and they may put out a better "R20" in the near future with more accuracy at a lower cost.

I guess what Im saying is more competition in the launch monitor market means a better deal for us casual consumer home users as the years go forward and technology advances.  I remember when the only options were an expensive GC2, Trackman, and a somewhat janky Skytrak.  I am very excited for what the future holds...

On another note, does anyone know if this device tracks putting?  Not a deal breaker for me, but just curious.

I'm looking at getting an X3 or EyeXO, so it's more principle than the amount, but might have used it as a travel monitor otherwise.
