she didn’t understand that the powder didn’t dilute anything and that she was still drinking a cup full of 95% alcohol 

Bet it didn’t take long for her to get drunk and ready to party!

We did the everclear and Hawaiian Punch with chopped fruit.  The other fav for the ladies was Jell-O shots.

The closest town to us bought their water supply, and it was expensive, but in the end I think you are correct.  Instead of a private company able to sell it to the highest bidder, it is now available for the residents.  A lot of people freaked out over it, but I thought it was very forward thinking and smart.  Water could very well be the reason for the next major war.  Since there is little money in desalinization it feels like the tech is behind the times.

 

We live on a big aquifer, so like Strokes, we have a well and we do no treatment to the water.  In fact, when I do go to town I bring my own water in a cup like yourself.  It doesn't taste like anything and I know there are no chemicals in it.

... I know agriculture is the biggest culprit but watching someone turn on the water and wash their hands with the water running the entire time is mind boggling. Saw a guy doing this and then started adjusting his hat with the water running and couldn't help myself saying "This is a desert, please shut off the water". Blank stare. I always wet my hands and turn off the water as I add soap and scrub, then turn it back on just long enough to rinse off. Doesn't sound like much but if everyone did this along with a few other forms of conservation, it would save a staggering amount of water.

we had the water tested twice so far since moving in and it’s actually on the low side of the “normal” range on the hardness scale, so we lucked out there.

When you spend a good chunk of your career working in fine dinning restaurants in D.C. and Las Vegas you frequently get to serve famous people. 

 

One Saturday night in the summer (early 90's) Washington DC.

 

I was working at Sequoia on the Potomac River in Georgetown. The GM told me I had a VIP table of six at 8 PM.  My VIP table was Jerry Springer and his 5 guests. He couldn't have been more friendly and funny. He and I hit it off immediately. I remember him saying, " LP I studied politics in college and then went to Law School and became the mayor of Cincinnati. How my career path changed and now am getting paid a lot of money just goofing off on television I do not know? Life is very unpredictable. "  Jerry was very smart and witty. He and his guests had wonderful dinner and drank very nice wine. Mr. Springer was most generous with the gratuity he left me. His table's check was near $700. He just doubled the amount and left me the same, $700.00. 

I really enjoyed waiting on Mr. Springer and his guests and I got a little verklempt today when I learned of his passing. 

Thank you for landing in my section that one Saturday night in the 90's at Sequoia Jerry, and RIP sir. 

 

 

 Gerald Norman Springer (February 13, 1944 – April 27, 2023) was an American broadcaster, journalist, actor, producer, lawyer, and politician.^[1] Born in London, England, during World War II to refugees escaping the Holocaust, Springer was raised in Queens, New York City. He attended Northwestern University School of Law, qualified as a lawyer, and first became actively involved in politics working for the campaign of Robert Kennedy in 1968.

A Cincinnati City Council member, Springer served as the 56th Mayor of Cincinnati from 1977 to 1978. He then worked as a local news anchor in Cincinnati where he won several Regional Emmy Awards for commentary. No CS I never went to any deli in the District. I had a good friend in Northern Virginia and he and his two brothers had 5 great delicatessens all over Fairfax Coun I had to go once a week to get my Steak and Cheese with fries fix and washed it all down with a bottle of Dr. Brown's Black Cherry soda. 😉

“deli” is a generous name for it, but they have one sandwich called the burger madness that was absolutely incredible.  i thought you might have found your way there during your travels 

 

for a school largely made up of kids from ny/nj/ct/pa, the fact that there isn’t a single good italian deli in georgetown was always mind blowing to me.

Ha! My friends dad got lots of bottles as gifts so we’d like pour a bunch of scotch into a 2 liter bottle of coke we had dumped 1/2 the coke out of. We had no clue lol
