I wish I could recommend my fav lil dive bar from back in the day! Sadly it shut down years ago. It was strategically placed next door to a tattoo parlor and across the street from a strip club! 😇

What a cool name for a bar. 🤣

... What a Clusterfork. These pga officials and congress are tap dancing around most everything and putting Fred Astaire to shame. 'Murica and Money could not be better represented. 🙄

... no, No and NO. I try to avoid politics because quite obviously our system is broken. And that broken system has preyed on those that find their information on one side or the other of the information spectrum. And that has created the widest divide in our history.

... I played golf with a guy that invited me to his CC as a guest, had watched my infomercial and was pleasant company for 15 holes. On the 16th tee he said I must really enjoy watching myself on "his" favorite cable station that has admitted under oath they are not to be taken seriously. I smiled and told him I don't watch. That started an avalanche of questions that turned into angry statements on his part and ending with him withdrawing my invitation to join him and he hoped I rotted in he!!. All because I don't watch his entertainment channel or wear a red hat. 😳

... I do love discussing some issues that affect us all, but not on a golf forum or anywhere on line and only with people I know have an open mind.

Good job on walking the high wire... I now have no idea where you stand.  😄  I've already got everyone in here pegged... everyone lets slip on occasion.

Politics went off the rails when TV went to 7 minute mandated breaks. Before that a topic could run, sometimes even bypass a break and allow a discussion to flow. W.F. Buckley quit doing TV because of it. Guy like Michael Kinsley and him could go on and  go in depth and no one was offended. Ted Koppel took massive liberties on skipping breaks and extending show, and it was great stuff. Now, there's several 24 hour news and they all talk for 7 minutes  and flip to next course of red meat and they are all full of s.h.i.t.  too.

... I would even go back further. News needed 3 verifiable sources* before they could run any story. Once someone decided to break ranks and use 1 verifiable source, which could be completely slanted, it opened the door for opinion passing as news and cable "news" was the result. I don't really remember politicians being interviewed back in the day of real news but now they area staple of the 7 minute break.

* a friend of mine did a weekend shift at my radio station in Philly but his full time job was editor in charge of field gathering news at a TV station. Sometimes frustrated with needing a 3rd source when he had a solid story, he turned in his notice when they began running a story with one source. He said it was the end of news and that was the early 80's.

I had to look up GG Allin. Was a bit surprised to read this:

Allin first defecated onstage in 1985 at a show in Peoria, Illinois.

Interesting that “first” was necessary in the sentence. 😳

Yeah, would agree. The bar overall was much higher.

But just on the political discourse end of it. Most commentators wrote two or three 1500 word essays every week, they had to make a clear case for their ideas. An editor pushed them to do better too.  On TV, they also would spend a full 30 minutes or even an hour going back & forth on one issue. The moderator (got Tim Russert) would challenge and not just bait them. Where does that happen today?  It doesn't. Buckley's Firing Line, an hour of hard core political porn, guys arguing like they're at Oxford, then they go out for dinner. You walked away respecting everyone involved and maybe even respecting what you didn't like coming into it. The interesting people now, the one's that make you think a bit, now? Now they get fired. They're off the box. The one's who go" hey wtf", they get railroaded when back in bad old days that was just another Sunday a.m. We are in some Orwellian bouncy beach ball bullxxxx these days and it's not getting better.

WF Buckley was dope! Most arrogant dude, make somebody feel like a homeless illiterate with just a sneering look 🤣

Ya used to have hardcore, very well read, deeply sourced, political analysts and journalists.

Koppel, Brinkley, even John McGlaughlin and his crew was little nuts but knew their stuff.

My favorite was Sam Donaldson, man, you could see politicians sweating through their shirts if they has to sit with him 🤣

And he don’t care what side of the aisle you are on, he’s just gonna kick your @ss!

I don’t know where I am… Still trying to ‘find myself’. Considering DMMs perception as my reality once I figure out what in the heck it all means! 😜

That’s smart. Cause that means you have the common sense to see through it all and to not subscribe too much in either direction.

Power concentrates to hard in one direction, you get kids working in coal mines. The result is outrage, unions….then it can sway to hard the other way and you get communism lol

It’s a constant swaying back and forth, the battle of the crazies on both sides, that gives us something in the middle.

And that’s a pretty politically agnostic post and as far as I’ll go on the subject!

Hah, so true. He chiseled and carved tough arguments and chewed people up.

Forgot about Donaldson. I always loved Russert & Koppel.

Sen. Pat Moynihan would come on and that guy would make everyone look stupid too. He was so big brained. A giant.

All the influencing these days, the chatter heads it's a mile wide and a millimeter deep.Because it's not meant to be anything other than yanking at your emotions & impulses. It's all click bait. Not to solve anything or advance commonality or consensus. The opposite really. Not angry, I am ranting a bit, and I'll shut up now. :)
