There's a zillion of competent musicians or at least there used to be. There's a handful that have that  flavoring of interpretation that is unique and inspired and that offers up something worth paying attention to. None of that requires virtuoso technique. Lot of guys could shred on guitar or drums, go on youtube, there's crazy technical animals out there but they are as musical as a rhino.

... Like anything with mustard in it, it tastes like mustard. 🤮  Coming from the vinegar based sauce in the Piedmont, it was inedible. Now I can do a red sauce if it isn't sweet. But I make my own sauce because nobody here knows how BBQ sauce should taste.

* You probably remember there was a little wooden shack in the middle of nowhere just outside Greenville and they opened early and when they were sold out they closed, so never open past 2pm or so and sometimes if someone had a big order they closed earlier. Killer pulled pork and worth the drive.

The base of the recipe is apple cider vinegar which brings a strong acidic flavor that goes so well with rich, smoked pork. With the addition of ketchup and brown sugar, the flavor of the vinegar mellows just a bit. To take the sauce over the top, red pepper flakes and black pepper gives it a spicy kick that’s irresistible.

Carolina Vinegar BBQ Sauce is tangy, spicy and is a must when you're serving pulled pork! It's easy to make with just 6 ingredients.

B’s Barbecue! Also had great link sausage and hoop cheese biscuits, not quite as good as Venter’s (just over Tar River bridge towards Hwy 33) , but close!

I struggle with this.  For years I was a fan of musicianship to my limited knowledge, and still am to an extent.  But as I age I realize many of my favorite artists are not overly proficient by comparison to many.  Neil Young, Lou Reed, Grateful Dead, REM, Janes Addiction; I can’t explain it.  For me bands don’t have to the best to be great.

Technical skills and musicianship aren't directly proportional. Sometimes the gods bless someone with both. Eddie Van Halen, for one ... and I'm not even a huge Van Halen fan. When people think of EVH, they think of his solos and don't even consider he was an incredible rhythm player that wrote some of the sexiest licks ever. Just off the top of my head - Hot For Teacher? That riff is just NASTY.

There's a band outta Reno we've done some gigs with - Boss' Daughter - these guys are incredible musicians and lay down some of the raddest tunes that mix the two together so incredibly well. Freakin love those guys.

I think the little shack you were talking about was named Dawson's out on NC 43 Between Greenville and Calico or Chicod. We do our pepper vinegar boiled with red pepper flakes butter black pepper and garlic. Mix everything hot and let cool then put it in a glass jar for a few days to let the flavors incorporate.

This!^^^^^^^

I use that combo for a mop sauce, and mop every hour. When I hit the stall, instead of just wrapping, I’ll put the shoulder in an aluminum pan and pour in the remaining sauce and cover with foil. This gives it a bit of a braise. Once the cook is done and pork is pulled, I’ll take the liquid from the pan, separate the fat, and pour it over the pork. Delightful!

A friend of mine bought his 61 Cadillac in the 80's when Chubby ( he lived a few blocks from me) got divorced

Very cool car- no air but a fan on the dashboard

As far as I still know he is still kicking in Andrews SC which is where he is from. He still has his old converted 60s Trailways bus and as of 4 years ago it was still kicking. Saw him and the bus at Jerrys Truck Stop in Manning SC. Talked to him for a few. They were going to a National Guard Armory somewhere in Georgia to do a show

Yep.  We were late by accident.  But it was a blessing as it turns out.  We caught the rain at the right time too.

cooley rents a 12 acre field that buts up to my back property line. Gramling property they don’t use. And those peach trees got hit hard. So much so they didn’t even try to tend them. So no spraying etc this year.  I walked over and picked up enough off the ground to make  a pie , but that took 30 min , they were so few on the ground.  Normally this time of year you can pickup hundreds of good peaches that they just don’t bother with.  I struggled to find 20.

I saw that white local peaches were bringing something like $40 a half bushel. Which is nuts. That’s only like 20 peaches. I did get lucky and have 3 white peaches given to me and they were heaven.  I ate one a day , lol.

the taste difference- it’s the red clay soil. More acidic.  We grow peaches with more flavor. There’s no way to deny that.

I have not been up that way but some tell me the peach stands up by McBee and Jefferson SC are not open this year. McLeod farms who is the big peach producer in that area has almost a dead crop this year.

Following my demanding weekend of work I find myself without enough energy to play 18 holes. These old legs and feet were put to the test for 4 consecutive days. Now I do have my scramble tournament one week from today so I will suck it up and practice for a few hours. I stopped by the sandwich shop and grabbed a sub so I can have lunch in the air conditioned car halfway through my practice session.

It's steaming out here. 80* with 80 % humidity. I broke a sweat just walking my gear from the car to the range. 😟

I was going to do the same this morning but by 7 AM it was already 85* with the humidity at 75%. I went out and chipped and putted some. By 8 AM I was as soaked as Lucas was yesterday. Went home and took a shower and threw my messy clothes in the washer. Stayed in for now--- I do have League tomorrow but if the heat is like that I may pull out

If I remember correctly they switched hwys. 33 and 43 around. I think that was in 95 because that is when my old man passed. My uncle used to run that little beer joint on the other side of the Tar River bridge going towards 33 or the Vanceboro highway. Then you had the best cheeseburgers and smoked sausage sandwiches at Sam and Daves located in Darwin Waters service station. They built a new place in the late 70s but I hear now it is closed.
