340 yds flying to front of green on 18, 375 yds overall...I guess he just proved his eligibility to become a Wrxer...

Yeah he’s gonna be just fine with a 44” driver.

Commentator just said it's playing at 44.25, which allegedly is half an inch shorter than what he used last tournament. Then Rory put it next to the flag from 370 out.

So whatever the length, it sure works.

Hahaha, another measurement in the mix!

Who knows, I just think that's a crazy change to be playing a driver an inch and half shorter than previous build is all.

Could be though... just found a more recent(Mar 9) build spec that shows 45 1/16...

Maybe Rick got in his ear about the secret driver sauce:

#ConspiracyTheoryAlert Making that info public is a smoke screen because they don't have to answers questions as to why he plays a driver 1.50" shorter than their retail offerings at 45.75"

For all those that haven’t experimented with short drivers, I personally experienced no drop off in length.  I found that my dispersion got tighter, allowing me to swing harder.  Rory rarely got to 188 with the 45.75” driver, but got there on 18 yesterday and twice today.

I've said it a million times. What's most amazing about Rors doing this ISN'T the speed ... it's the absolutely inhuman balance he maintains after such a swing to create that speed.

Look at him, man! He doesn't even wobble the slightest in his finish! No recoil, no nothing. Looks like he just hit a casual 100 yard pitch.

Nuts.

Yes, his balance and grace turns his swing into an form of art. So sad to see many other "modern" pros swings the club like they are chopping wood with an axe or something.

Even Rory doesn't usually swing in this good balance. And he finally hit a couple bad ones today just to prove he's not a robot.

Did you see when he lost traction/balance on the par 3 on Saturday? Has he switched to soft spikes, or did his metal spikes fail him?

Anyway else catch TXG saying they heard it wasn’t even a driver length change and just a shaft change 😂

I’ve also been confused by the commentators. Heard one of the say he was playing a half inch from standard and then cut another half off. If you use TM’s standard that gets you 44.75 inches. Also heard the other commentator say he was playing a 44.25 inch shaft. Then you have him saying it’s 44…

We know from Trottie he was playing his 44.5 inch driver at a D5 swing weight last year. If he kept the swing weight the same with this 44” driver he would have to add 18 grams to the head. Sure is a lot but I guess if you add it all to the back you’d get a whole lot of fargiveness 😬

@Haleone Can you pls share that TXG Link?

The only TXG one i saw = this podcast discussion ... was more from context of Rory couldn't change back to his old TM Stealth driver (worn down / too 'hot'? Timestamp ~8m13s: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pM17vOii6Ho?t=493

Rory did a "walk and talk" segment, on the shorter driver shaft... Link below: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lUa-yodinwM?t=100

TXG talked about it in their live QNA from new york earlier today.

Quite curious about who their "very reliable" source is, which seemingly is more reliable than Rory himself saying the driver is shorter

Can only imagine it's Trottie, who Ian seems to know quite well.

The only guy I can think of who might be a more reliable source than Rory is the guy who actually built the driver.

Do any other tour pro's play such a short driver length, i seem to remember Sergio's was quite short (but he doesn't count anymore)

If Ian F is correct that Rory didn't cut down his driver, then I predict that shaft extender sales are about to explode

He does name drop the guy in the video and it wasn’t Trottie. However when he references him not cutting it he is talking about his rounds at Augusta the week before. Very possible he didn’t have it cut during those rounds but cut it after. Still would be a weird thing to do since he played so well at Augusta.

Would be incredible if the club builder just told him it was shorter to give him more confidence 🤣

It looks shorter to me.  At 45.5 or 46 ( when he tried that chasing Bryson ) it alwasy looked like it was about as long as he is tall. Now it looks more proportional

Not a pro but if you want to see a guy who has a 140mph club head speed with a 44” driver check out Fordysgolf

I don’t know if he still is but Ricky Fowler did always use a 43.5” driver

Ricky uses 44.5 which is why Cobra offers tour length edition to Aerojet drivers. It's actually 44.25 if you don't get the Arrcos sensor.
