Titleist 2023 irons

Just did a fitting with Cool Clubs, they gave me the option of ordering direct from Titleist or through their program for an extra $500.  
 

After checking out the Titleist page for the new irons which they describe their custom builds I just didn’t see the value for the extra $500.  
 

CC is always a rip off of price.  I’ve taken their specs on previous irons and gotten them for 500-750 cheaper elsewhere.

Just to add some nunbers behind it, my T-150 4-PW came out to $200/head (Same as Titleist). My KBS Tour V +1/4” Stiff were +17/club (Sames as Titleist). Finally, my MCC Align grips were $12/each (Same as Titleist). Maybe I am the odd man out here but I what I ordered was no different than ordering directly from Titleist.com. That being said, I did not do the shaft purring and other optional fees that would have driven the number $6-800 more.

 

Edit: I’m not trying to turn this thread into a Club Champion pricing thread. I wanted to share my timeline based on my order and offer a counter experience to the many negative comments regarding price. No matter where you get them, the new irons should be awesome.

Yes, I’ve been playing the i230’s for the last few months… I had better ball speed and dispersion with the T150’s and wound up ordering a combo of T150’s and T200’s on the spot.

I just called my order in for $170 per head.  If you hunt around you can get them cheaper.

any comment on turf interaction, spin, softness?

sorry...wondering if I may have bitten off more than I can chew with them 

the i230's are quite forgiving and consistent at worst

I was fit indoors on Trackman so I can’t speak to turf interaction. Spin was very similar to i230’s and I went with the same shaft that are in my i230’s (Dynamic Gold Tour issue S400’s). Feel is definitely “softer” and better in the T150’s in my opinion. Honestly, the T200’s look very similar to the i230’s from address which is why I combo’d the T200’s in 4i, 5i, and 6i. Then T150 in 7i-PW.

Placed an order today for a combo set.

 

Went 350 4-iron, 200 5-6, and 150 7-pw. Strengthened the 150 a degree to keep the gapping similar. The 350 is going to be a off the tee club. Really impressed with how everything blended together between the clubs, Titleist did a great job with this series.

I’ve been thinking of making the same change — i230s to a very similar combo set. What stood out to you the most as key differences? Was it mostly the feel?

Had my fitting today at my club on range in Northern California today...

 

For background, I had T200 (4/5) /T100s (6-PW) up until about February. My good golf was very good with them but my misses and bad golf was horrific and didn't find T100s to be forgiving as I hoped and did not like sound or feel of T200 even though they performed well. This led me to try i230s which I tested indoors and numbers wise performed better and certainly were more forgiving, went power spec on them as well. Over the last 6mo my bad golf has been better, but have not been able to get into a rhythm with the i230s. I love the looks and forgiveness and wanted wider sole to help with some digging as I have a steeper swing path. If I am being honest, feel is fine, but think turf interaction is clunky. I am a 7hcp just as a reference and a decent ball striker (bad putter which I am working on).

 

Went into fitting with open mind and tried to let numbers do the talking. My 7i spin numbers on the i230 were a little lower than desired about 5700rpm and efficiency was just okay... Fitter was like "these are fine but think there is room for improvement".

Tried the T100 which immediately brought spin numbers up but I was wary of bending them stronger to combo which would reduce bounce. Moved on to try 150 which had similar spin in 6600ish range and more distance and efficiency. Turf interaction was vastly superior, feel was a solid softness which also was a little nicer. Hit a couple one or two grooves low and still got right up in the air with a nice flight. Can't say they are more forgiving than i230 but definitely seem improved over T100s. Fitter immediately said this was the iron for me but needed to see if longer irons were also a fit. 

 

Hit 5i in T150 and he was happy, then 4i but was coming out too low and wasn't getting the speed needed for appropriate gapping. One swing with T200 and said we were done and that is the one for me for that iron only. Said we should bend 1 degree weak for that iron just to match loft progression of T150 which has been discussed here. 

 

He did recommend going 1/2in longer but I pushed back a little and we compromised on 1/4 in over standard. 

Lie angle and shaft choice was exact same as i230s. 2up and Nippon 105 Tour S which is nice that Titleist now considers a stock shaft as I think it was $15/club up charge with my original combo set. 

 

As far as order time, he did say the 150s were close to getting backordered and taking a little longer due to popularity. Hoping I get them before end of month before golf trip in Sept.

Hit the 5 irons indoors. T100, 150 and 200. Not a ton of separation for me with 100 and 150. 150 blade length looked a hair long-ish to me, but that is a super picky nit pick. Numbers wise they all did exactly what they’re supposed to hitting back to back to back. I prefer the t100 overall, but the other two are great and I suppose it really does make sense to get fit and blend based on numbers this iteration more than ever. Personally, I hate combo sets, but these seem to work.

Had my fitting yesterday and settled on T150 4-PW. Went in thinking I would end up in a blended set with T200 in at least 4i and maybe 5i but just didn’t get any more out of them. The 150s seemed just as forgiving and was getting higher launch than 200s. Another close contender was the i230, they’re so darn consistent, but the T150 was getting higher launch and that’s something I struggle with

 

Paired them with Modus 120 stiff, 1/2” short and 1° weak, 2° flat. Should be about 3 weeks, hope it’s not much longer. Michigan seasons are never long enough!

That’s the issue I have with combo-ing them. Why they didn’t keep them all satin finish !

I've got an order in with my club guy for 5-PW T100 with Axiom 125X and 4 iron in the T150 with an Axiom 105X.  Convinced myself after 8 rounds of golf in 9 days, with 6 of those rounds coming in Ireland, that I should go full graphite in the irons.

Hit them at my fitting more just to see what they were like - I was going regular 4 iron and didn't really need a 2 or a 3 iron...my current 1 iron is not going anywhere.

 

I liked them! 

 

I think I have tried every iteration of Titleist utility irons back to the 712U. Really like the T200 Utility. Not a lover of the stock shaft but the head had some really good pop to it, nice hit. In theory the U505 should be easier to hit but the sole of the T200 is just so much better. If I were looking for something to hit off the deck it would be T200 over U505.

Its so they can make them brushed for the 2025 version and say they are "even more blendable"!

Has anyone ordered, received or thinking about going 2 degrees weak with the T150 ? 

 

When fitted last week, the 150 PW was flying too far, but I like having a the same iron from 4 to PW. Hoping i have not messed up by deciding to go T150 2 degrees weak all the way through the set.

That's going to add 2* of bounce, which I think would be quite noticable. Titleist doesn't publish the bounce spec anymore, but I feel that the T150 has more bounce (maybe just the wider sole?) than my T100s.

Hit them both.  Received my T200 4 iron build on Friday.

 

The U505 was a rocket during my fitting.  It looks better than the last iteration but still feels a bit odd.  The thing launched it high with good spin, though.  

 

The T200 utility build feels/sounds better than the last version.

For sure, will change the bounce. Just wondering if they are going to turn into high launch machines?

I have a set ordered last weekend standard lie, 2 weak. Loved the 150 but was going too far. I am a naturally steep player (-6) down with irons on trackman usually and 7i ss 92~mph. project X 6.5 2 weak and expecting no issues.  A little bounce shouldn’t be any problem if you hit down some imo.

Anyone going to do anything with the PW loft numbers that are stamped on the sole? 

 

Thinking about scratching out the black paint in the 44 to start with.

 

Anyone know a way to fill it in?

 

It looks crap, imo.
