2023 JM Eagle LA Championship (April 27-30)

My field rating for this inaugural event is a very solid 74%. 
My breakdown is 80% from the LPGA Priority List and 68% from the Rolex Rankings.
Eight of the top ten players in the world will be teeing it up, and seventeen of the top twenty.
Top players not teeing it up this week include:
Lydia Ko
Lexi Thompson
In Gee Chun
Sei Young Kim
Jeongeun Lee6
Anna Nordqvist

The Monday qualifiers were:
Mi Hyang Lee -3
Allison Emery -2 (who defeated Ilhee Lee in a playoff)

The sponser Invitees are:

Heather Lin

Other stuff:
Lydia Ko missed the cut this past weekend ending her cut streak at 39. Georgia Hall now has the longest current streak as she has made 35 straight.

Three of the last four LPGA tournaments have gone to playoffs.

Lilia Vu is the first LPGA player to win twice this season.

Nelly Korda's third place finish this past weekend was her 5th top ten this year. She leads the tour in that category.

Vu's win was the second by an American player. Five other countries are tied with one win.

There were some big moves in the Rolex Rankings by LPGA players this week: 
Congrats go out to Nelly Korda who is the new No. 1 player in the world, as Lydia Ko drops down to No. 2.
Lilia Vu makes the most important move this week, leaping from 12-4. In doing so she knocks Hyo-Joo Kim out of the top ten.
Allisen Corpus jumps from 34-21.
A Lim Kim surges from 53-41
Angel Yin springs up 124 spots from 172-48
Amy Yang rises from 76-52
Albane Valenzuela vaults from 109-75

Fresh course in LA , tough to predict a winner, but let's bump up all the SoCal golfers. I wonder if Annie played here in college. I would peg Nelly and Georgia as the favorites.

My buddy, you're mistaken!  LPGA started to play Wilshire Country Club since 2018, most recently 2022 DIO Implant LA Open won by Nasa Hataoka.  It's called HUGEL-AIR PREMIA LA Open in 2021, won by Brooke Henderson.

that's for clarifying, this only compounds my confusion from earlier this year! bodes well for Yealimi too then who finished T10 on this course last season!

USC golfers in the field include Annie, Allisen Corpuz, Muni He, Jennifer Chang, Lizette Salas, Gabby Then.. Karen Chung currently 2nd ALT.  I guess Sophia Popovs exemptions have expired! 😞

PS I really like California tournaments

The Poa is gonna just be like "kicking you when you are already down" kinda thing this week.  Bad ballstriking this week will make you dream of the days when putting on Poa was your problem (ask Jin Young about the 8 she made on 16 I believe). lol

 

This is a great course, the Men even really liked it, but they got too long for it, still perfect for the Ladies though.

any guesses what that "coin pouch" on Yealimi's back-right pocket is used for?
Can't imagine she needs a pouch to carry tees, similar to us plebs (that's what a caddy is for?)... and it would be a hindrance for me on downswing/backswing.

IMO it causes everyone the same problems, but I guess if you didn't grow up or get much exposure to it, you don't handle it as well.  lol   It grows irregularly and is worse as the day goes on.  And if you start missing greens, those 5-6 footers for par become a much bigger problem.

@khalespace poa greens shouldn't be used for pro events at this level, Stooch describes it well.

Not quite the same, but Bermuda is a coin toss. Hmmm. Dark or light. Going right, or 2 feet left? Might run it 6 feet past, or get it half way to the hole.

Poa annua grows rapidly and in a "swirling" manner which follows the sun path.  So a putt that breaks 2" left in the morning may go straight in the afternoon or it might even move right by the end of the day.  To @Argonne69's point, it is the 5-6 foot par putts on Poa that drive golfers nuts.  

 

Back before greens sheets, the caddies used to roll balls from all over and then make notes for morning and evening.  However, if cloud cover increased or decreased, those notes were out the window.  One of the best ever on Poa (TW) once said, hit it firm center to take the guess work out.  But that was before courses were setup for 13-14.  Glad I don't have to help read putts anymore.

Lol, easy to miss a 3 footer on poa, like putting across corrugated iron for the afternoon players

Also, not all Poa greens are the same, I don't remember this being terrible, I think it generally rolls smoothly here with the odd poa thing happening.   Some are bad though, I like PLINKO on the Price is Right, not so much on the putting greens.  lol

I will admit one thing...poa greens (in general) were far worse in the days of metal spikes and not being allowed to touch the line of your putt.

 

But still😖

 

Saw a ground level level camera shot from an event earlier this year and the putt was bouncing up and down all over the place.
