This is a bit shady.  Reminds me of when they used to release the triple diamond after the main releases, or how Ping released the LST after the originals.

 

And now, to top it off, we have to wait longer?  So are they going to allow people to cancel their original orders and reorder this one?

Yes, you can cancel the original.  I did mine a few weeks ago before there was any indication one would be released with the white hot insert

Some people are getting their MH version by mid-September.  Unfortunately, my shipping date hasn’t changed from the 3-4 month timeframe.

The length on these things is so weird to me. The original limited edition release was 39 inches because that's what Rickie and Wyndham Clark were using.

 

However, 39 inches as stock is super long, and the shortest custom option being 38 inches is pretty lame. I think a lot of people are going to find themselves in an uncomfortable position if they order this thing stock. Odyssey used to sell their Tank putters in 35 inch, 36 inch, and 38 inch configurations, IIRC. When I had one, 36 inches was perfect for someone who typically plays a 34 inch standard putter. 38-39 inches would be in my stomach.

Yeah, I haven’t called them so that may be accurate (at least I hope it is).  I don’t plan on switching putters this season, so even if it takes longer to receive I’m fine with it.

Makes sense. 

 

If the only difference is the insert, then the insert would be the limiting part that causes a 3 month delay.  I guess anything is possible, since they did stop producing them a while ago, but seems unlikely.

I agree, seems like most players play them 3” over their standard putter length.  I play my putters at 33”, actually called Odyssey this morning to see if I could order it at 36” or even at 38” and leave the grip loose in the box so I could cut it when it arrived and was told neither option was available.   I’ll try it at 38” but I can almost guarantee I’m going to be cutting it pretty soon

I like that Odyssey is allowing everyone who wants this putter the ability to order it.  This process keeps the flippers at bay (for the most part).  Wish other oems would do this as well.

100% the MH, seemed to have more of a marketing push from Callaway, longer lead up before the pre-order date, and all of Rickie/Wyndham excitement.

Part of the concept is you don’t hold it towards the end of the putter grip like you would with a conventional length putter.  

 

You grip down from the end of the grip to be at a point on the grip that you would normally set up at. 

 

Watch this video from TXG at around 6:40 as Ian Fraser is using the Jailbird 380 and talking about some drills he is working on but you can see how far down his hands are on the grip, more like a distance you would be with a conventional putter.  
 

The video is a comparison video between the Jailbird and a Scotty Cameron Champions Choice.

Yes of course but @MaineMariner raises a good point because 39” is very long even for a CB putter. They should offer 36” as the minimum length, in my opinion. Hovland, for example, also uses a counterbalanced putter and it’s only 36” in length, and he still grips down a large amount

 

Fowler’s high-hands, elbows out, putting technique has always allowed him to use a length that many would consider longer than typical for his size

I'm 6'5" and 38" is too long for me. Especially in the spring and fall when I'm wearing a sweater. 37" would be perfect if that was an option.
